Ash and co. have arrived at another island so that May can win her third Pokémon contest. Ash tells Sceptile to use Bullet Seed. Sceptile opens its mouth, but its attack fails again. Ash tells Sceptile to get the love junk out of its head and succeed with the attack. Drew walks up to the group and tells Ash that he shouldn't be treating his Pokémon that way since that will only make them more stressful.
May holds up the letter she got earlier. She thinks that Drew sent her the letter and that he will be participating in the contest. Drew tells May that he didn't send her the letter nor will he even participate in the contest because he wants to give his Pokémon a good break. May looks down wondering who sent her the letter.
Team Rocket is on another part of the island preparing for the contest. Jessie is in her costume and is going to use Mime Jr for the contest. Meanwhile, May has chosen to use Munchlax and Combusken for the contest. May wants to train with Munchlax for a bit. She has Munchlax use Focus Punch. Combusken dodges Munchlax's attack. Munchlax heads straight towards a girl. The girl barely dodges Munchlax who is buried in the sand. May runs to the girl and apologizes. The girl isn't hurt at all. Ash, Brock, and Max pull Munchlax out of the sand. The girl tells May that she watched her last Pokémon Contest battle. The girl also wanted to meet May, but instead she left a letter and rose. The letter came from the girl. The girl's name is Brianna. She apparently forgot to put her name on the letter, so May thought the letter came from Drew. Brianna apologizes to May for the inconvenience. When Brianna hears that Drew is on the island too, she gets excited.
May and Brianna walk towards a pool where Drew is resting. Brianna is red all over her face. May calls out to Drew and introduces Brianna to him. Apparently, Brianna went into Pokémon Contests because she was inspired by Drew. Drew and Brianna shake hands with each other. Drew then walks away. Ash, Brock, and May have watched them from the balcony. Brianna then gets serious. She exclaims to May that she wants to take her down at the contest. She tells May that she is the only female that Drew has a respect for. Because Brianna like Drew a lot, she wants to win that respect too.
The contest is just about to start. Lillian, the host, says her speech and introduces the three judges. Then the contest starts. Jessie is the first coordinator to step up on stage. The Pokémon that she sends out is Mime Jr who immediately shows off its cuteness. Then Jessie does a simple dance, and Mime Jr copies every move Jessie makes. The judges are impressed with Jessie's performance.
The second coordinator is May. She sends out Munchlax. Sending out Munchlax makes Max a bit nervous since May has never used Munchlax as a starter before. Munchlax starts off with a Solarbeam. Munchlax opens its mouth wide and fires the beam in the air. Ash wonders how Munchlax got the energy so quickly to launch the attack. Brock thinks that since it is very sunny outside, Munchlax was able to collect the necessary energy faster for the attack. Then May has Munchlax use Metronome. Max doesn't know why May is having Munchlax use Metronome since Metronome can put May at a huge disadvantage. The Metronome turns out to be Rest. May is shocked to see that Munchlax is sleeping. However she does have a backup plan. She throws a Pokeblock in the air. Munchlax springs awake and eats the Pokeblock.
The next coordinator is Brianna. She sends out Surskit. Surskit uses Ice Beam which covers the whole field with ice. Then Surskit uses Agiliity to slide itself across the whole field. Then Surskit jumps and in middair, it starts to spin like a top. Surskit makes a perfect landing while spinning. When Surskit is finished with its performance, the audience applaudes for Brianna.
May and Brianna catch up with each other. They congratulate each other on their fine entries in the contest. When all the entries are complete, a big appears and shows the winners for the next round. May, Brianna, and Jessie all make it to the next round. Max asks Drew if May has a chance in the next round. Since May is using Combusken in the next round, Drew tells him that May would have a better chance with Munchlax because its Solarbeam is faster. Then the screen pairs up all the winners in two. Brianna notices that May is excited over Drew, and she wonders if May likes him. May blushes a bit. Jessie overhears their conversation and steps in it. Jessie says that she would love to see a battle between May and Brianna.
The first battle of Round Two between May and Jessie begins. May sends out Combusken and Jessie sends out Mime Jr. Combusken starts off with Fire Spin. Mime Jr dodges the attack and uses Mimic which repeats the same attack Combusken used. Mime Jr fires a Fire Spin at Combusken. Then Combusken strikes back with Tackle. Mime Jr gets hit, but it comes back with Tickle. The Tickle is too much for Combusken, and May ends up losing more points. Mime Jr then uses another Fire Spin. However, since Combusken's specialty is fire attacks, the Fire Spin that Mime Jr used charges itself up. Combusken uses a Sky Uppercut, knocking Mime Jr out. May is the winner. She congratulates Combusken for doing a good job. Jessie walks up to May telling her that it isn't over yet.
May and Brianna defeats the other trainers. The final battle is with May and Brianna. May sends out Combusken, and Brianna sends out Vibrava. Combusken starts off with QUick Attack, but Vibrava counters with Screech. Combusken can't stand the pulsing waves. To stop the Screech, Combusken fires a Fire Spin at Vibrava. Vibrava's next attack is Dragonbreath to block the Fire Spin attack. THen it uses Sand Tomb which wedges Combusken in sand. Combusken does everything it can to get out, but it is really stuck. May tells Combusken that she knows that it can break free from the sand. Suddenly, Combusken begins to glow with a blue light and Combusken breaks free. May sees that Combusken used a Mega Kick to break free. There are only thirty seconds left. Vibrava attacks with Dragonbreath. The attack directly hits Combusken. May tells Combusken to use Sky Uppercut. Combusken uses its attack, but vibrava dodges and counters with Sand Tomb. The sand begins to surround Combusken. However, with one powerful Mega Kick, Combusken dodges the sand and pins Vibrava to the ground. Vibrava is knocked out, and May is the winner. The judges present May with her third ribbon.
At the sunset, May and Brianna are together. Brianna congratulates May for her victory. Ash, Brock, May, and Drew walk up to the girls. May asks Drew for his opinion on her battle skills. Drew tells her that she just got lucky. Then Drew tells Brianna that she was really good too. Drew reminds May that she only needs two more ribbons until the Grand Festival. Then he walks away. Ash reminds Pikachu that their next battle is at the Battle Palace. Meanwhile, Jessie and Mime Jr are staring at the moon. James and Meowth wonder if something is wrong with Jessie...
