Ash and co. are headed for the next town. Brock looks at his guide book and finds out that the next town is right over the mountain. There Ash will battle the Frontier Brain for his sixth Battle Frontier symbol. May sees a Smoochum in the bushes. She runs over to it and notices how cute it is. May is about to pick Smoochum up when it suddenly is moved with a Psychic attack.
Suddenly, a blizzard occurs. Smoochum is moved to another part of the forest. Ash and co. are trying to endure the blizzard. The blizzard is coming from three Jynx. Ash begins to shout at the Jynx. The Jynx freezes him with another Blizzard. Ash gets mad. He tells Pikachu to use Thunderbolt. Before Pikachu can launch the attack, the Jynx freeze Pikachu with Ice Beam. May tells Ash that the Jynx may be trying to protect the Smoochum. Brock suggests that they just leave the Jynx alone. Ash agrees and he walks away with Pikachu. The Jynx then notice that the Smoochum is missing.
Meowth is tired of working. Jessie and James explain to him that there is always someone out there that is working harder than you. They have one rice ball left. Each of them wants to rice ball. They begin to fight over it. The rice ball rolls down the hill. Team Rocket chases after it. At the bottom of the hill, Smoochum has found the rice ball. Smoochum eats the rice ball. Team Rocket gets angry at Smoochum, but Smoochum's cuteness releases their anger. They imagine Smoochum dressed up in a costume at a theater. They plan on getting rich by performing with Smoochum. The three Jynx continue to search for Smoochum. They see Smoochum being carried off by Team Rocket
Ash brings Pikachu to the Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy reports that Pikachu is feeling better. Ash is glad. Brock walks up to Nurse Joy and tells her how lovely she is. Ash figures there's something wrong with Brock's brain, and he pushes him away. Suddenly, they hear a lot of noise coming from outside. It is a total ice age outside. Everything is covered in ice and snow. The source of this ice age are the Jynx. They are angry, and they are covering everything up with ice. Ash and co. run outside. They run up to the Jynx. They Jynx use telepathy to tell Ash and co. what happened. Ash now understands that Team Rocket took away Smoochum, and so now they are angry. Ash says they have to get Smoochum back. He sends out Swellow to search for Team Rocket.
Ash tells Jynx that they are going to bring back Smoochum. The Jynx don't believe Ash. They use another Blizzard on him. Pikachu tries to communicate with the Jynx, but the Jynx end up attacking Pikachu as well. May thinks Combusken's Fire Spin will work. When Combusken uses the attack, the Jynx endure it. They then knock Combusken out with a Blizzard. They wonder what they can do to communicate with Jynx. Swellow comes back. It knows where Team Rocket is at. Ash then gets an idea. He tells Pikachu to use Thunderbolt. Pikachu fires the attack at Jynx. This makes the Jynx even madder. Ash and co. begin to run, and the Jynx follow them. Ash tells Swellow that it has to take them to where Team Rocket is hiding.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket is doing a dance with Smoochum. Suddenly, Ash and co. walk up to Team Rocket. Team Rocket says their motto to them. Ash and co. demand that Team Rocket gives back Smoochum. Team Rocket doesn't want to give Smoochum back. The Jynx shoot a few Ice Beam attacks at Jynx. Team Rocket begins to run away. Ash and co. and the Jynx begins to chase Team Rocket. Team Rocket hides behind the bushes to escape from the Ash and co. and the Jynx. Jessie thinks Mime Jr should disguise as Jynx. James doesn't want to put Mime Jr at risk, but Jessie tells him that he is responsible too. Jessie then states that Meowth will dress up as a Smoochum too.
The Jynx approach Team Rocket's hiding place. Mime Jr and Meowth, dressed as Smoochum, both run out in opposite directions. Two of the Jynx chase after Mime Jr and Meowth. They notice that they aren't the real Smoochum. The third Jynx walks up to the tree. Jessie and the real Smoochum are behind the tree. Jessie sees Jynx and runs away. The three Jynx chase after Jessie. Ash and co. notice this, and they tell Team Rocket to give Smoochum back. Jessie still refuses to give back Smoochum.
Jessie approaches a long ladder. She begins to climb up it. The Jynx begin to fire Ice beam attacks at Jessie, but they all miss. Eventually, Jessie is so high up that the Jynx can't reach her anymore. Ash and co. approach the ladder too. May thinks Jessie is crazy to be that high up. Jessie doesn't care as long as she has Smoochum. Ash startst to climb up the ladder to rescue Jynx. The Jynx think Ash is friends with Team Rocket, so they begin to fire their attacks at Ash. Brock explains to the Jynx that Ash is trying to save Smoochum.
Ash calls out to Jessie to release Smoochum. Jessie does not want to give Smoochum back at all. She calls Meowth and tells him to hurry up with the balloon. James is busy pumping up the balloon for their escape. Suddenly, Jessie begins to fall. She accidently drops Smoochum. Ash dives down and catches Smoochum. The Jynx use their Psychic attacks to lure Ash down to safety. The Jynx can finally trust Ash and co. Ash thanks the Jynx for saving him.
Meanwhile, James and Meowth floats up in their balloon. They rescue Jessie. Jessie wants Smoochum back. Just before Ash can give Smoochum back to the Jynx, a mechanical arm grabs Smoochum. Jessie is happy that she will finally have Smoochum back. The Jynx are angry at Team Rocket. They use Ice Beam to freeze the mechanical arm. Then Swellow uses Aerial Ace on the ice. The mechanical arm breaks apart, and Smoochum falls down. May, Max, and Brock run to catch Smoochum. Brock catches Smoochum just in time. Team Rocket begins to escape. The Jynx fire another Ice Beam at Team Rocket. The balloon freezes. Then Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to blast Team Rocket off.
Smoochum kisses Ash several times for saving it. Ash places Smoochum on the ground. Suddenly, Smoochum evolves into Jynx. Max says that Smoochum evolved at the right time. Brock states that the Jynx all look so happy together as a family. May is hungry and exhausted. Ash tells her that they have no time to eat. He wants to stick with the schedule and continue their way to the Battle Tower. May tells Ash that it is no good if they are exhausted, and it is getting dark. Ash finally agrees with her. They will leave for the Battle Tower the next day.
