A new news article has been posted!
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has imposed unjustified retaliatory tariffs on the United States on many imported products into Canada and a 10% playing cards tariff came into effect on July 1st, 2018. This puts Canadian Pokémon TCG players at a disadvantage with an increased price on the already unnecessarily expensive imported TCG cards for upcoming sets such as: Sun & Moon Celestial Storm and Dragon Majesty. Most retailers in Canada are now currently selling a Pokémon TCG 10 card booster pack for over $6CND including tax.

"The tariff on playing cards — which came into force July 1 — applies a 10 per cent charge on a standard deck of cards, but trading cards like Magic the Gathering, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards are also hit. (CBC News)"

With the Canadian and American cultures and economies so intertwined, these unjustified retaliatory tariffs are making so many things in Canada more expensive on already expensive imported products. Canadians buy so many American products, as they are made there and now were going to have to pay even more! Trudeau is already doing bailouts to the metal industries because of these tariffs that didn't need to be in place. Between duty, high tax, currency exchange and now these tariffs, many Canadians are being forced out of purchasing items due to the excessive prices.

There is a very good news article by Jack M. Mintz in the Financial Post that explains that all these tariffs that have been imposed are hurting no one but Canadians.

Trump earlier this year was actually going to help Canadians that cross-border shop or buy online and suggested that the duty free limit be set at $800USD up from the current $20USD but Trudeau disagreed as well. It seems that whatever Trump does, Trudeau has to do the exact opposite regardless of the rationality behind it. Trudeau believed it would hurt Canadian retailers, who are mainly USA based anyways. Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, Amazon, ect are all American companies.

The main target audience of the Pokémon Trading Card Game is children and they only have so much money to buy cards. Raising the price unnecessarily is just directly affecting the kids that wanted to play the game.
