The Pokémon Company has announced a new app for Apple iOS called Learn Real English with Pokémon: XY Dual-Language Scope (ポケモンで学ぶリアル英語 XY対訳スコープ). An Android version of the app is currently not scheduled for release. The app helps people that know Japanese learn English by playing Pokémon X and Y and using the app to take pictures of text in the game to translate into Japanese, do quizes like fill in the blank, Pokémon Name Search, earn medals, hear phrases and words in English and save favorite phrases.

The app is free and available as of April 22nd, 2015 but add-ons cost 480yen each. While other language text such as French, Italian, German, Spanish and Korean are available in Pokémon X and Y, the app will only translate from English to Japanese.

English-Japanese Pokémon Name Search

The app has an English-Japanese Pokémon Name Search (英日ポケモン用語サーチ) that allows users to search for a Pokémon by name in either language an learn some basic information about it.

Save Favorite Phrases (お気に入りのセリフを保存)

The app allows users to save favorite phrases used by people in Pokémon X and Y to help learn to read and understand them better such as Clemont's famous line "The future is now, thanks to science!"

English Speech Function (英文読み上げ機能)

The app will read words or phrases in English so users can hear what it sounds like in English.
