Viz is now releasing the original anime series for Pokemon in DVD boxset format. The Pokemon: Indigo League DVD boxset features episodes 53-79, the final episodes for the first season of the original TV series before many others would later follow. The 27 episodes are split up onto three discs, and each disc has nine episodes.

IGN is a bit harsh in their review, but it's not far off. Amazon is currently pre-ordering the box set on their website for $27.99. This is a reasonable price for what they are offering in this box set. Viz made absolutely no effort on these DVD box sets. It would have been nice to see them make uncut boxsets similar to Naurto. #PocketMonsters will be posting our own review of these boxsets in the future when our new website launches. Below are excerpts from IGN's review.

Pokemon: Indigo League Season 1, Volume 3 DVD Review

by Jeffrey Harris, IGN
Video is presented in fullscreen format. At over ten years old, the series is definitely starting to show its age. The picture quality is starting to look grainy and there are some slight artifacts in the animation as well.

The Pokemon: Indigo League boxset comes in a paper case, with volumes 7, 8, and 9 of the series packaged in regular size plastic, clamshell DVD cases stored inside. Each case has an insert listing the number and episode titles included on the discs. There are no extras at all for this DVD set, but the packaging boasts, "Full-length Pikachu's Jukebox On Each DVD!" To the ignorant, the Pikachu's Jukebox was a music video segment at the end of each episode, prior to the credits with some lame, stupid song about Pokemon and their friendships with each other and their masters.

If you loved the original series, well here are 27 episodes of season one right here.
