Trainers, Pokémon’s legendary year continues with three Legendary Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region harnessing their power to take over Raid Battles in Pokémon GO, starting with Regice on June 21!

Regice, the Iceberg Pokémon, has awakened from its slumber and will be the first to appear in Raid Battles across the world until July 19. This Ice-type Legendary Pokémon has a strong defense, but is weak to Fire-, Fighting-, Rock-, and Steel-type attacks.

The presence of this defensive powerhouse kicks off a summer of earth-shattering events, as Regirock and Registeel will also roar into Gyms worldwide!

Niantic has announced that new features will be coming to Pokémon GO and they include: Friends, Trading, and Gifting. Further details are below in the press release.

Make Way for Friends, Trading, and Gifting in Pokémon GO!

Trainers, We’re excited to share brand-new ways to interact with your friends in Pokémon GO! The Friends feature will start rolling out to Trainers later this week, allowing you to connect with your real-life friends and keep track of their adventures in Pokémon GO. You’ll be able to send them items, earn bonuses—and even trade Pokémon!

In order to add a friend in Pokémon GO, you must first ask them to share their Trainer Code with you. To invite a Trainer to become your friend, simply enter their Trainer Code and then send them a request. If they accept, you’ll become friends, and you’ll see them in your Friends List.

Trainer Profile / Friends List

When you spin a Photo Disc at a PokéStop or Gym, you have a chance of receiving a special Gift. Although you can’t open the Gifts you receive from PokéStops, you can send them to a friend on your Friend List. Inside the Gift will be a stash of helpful items, which your friend will receive along with a postcard showing where you picked up your Gift. Gifts can also include a special surprise: an Egg that, when hatched, will contain an Alolan form of a Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region!

Gift / Open a Gift / Send a Gift / Gift Postcard

When you send a Gift to a friend or participate in a raid or Gym battle with them, you can increase your Friendship Level. As your Friendship Level builds, you’ll then unlock bonuses when you play together. For example, when you and a Great Friend participate in a Gym battle or Raid Battle together, you can earn an Attack bonus to give your Pokémon an edge! You can increase your Friendship Level once per day per friend.

You can also build your Friendship Level by trading Pokémon with a friend. If you’re near a friend and have a Trainer Level of 10 or higher, you can trade Pokémon you’ve caught with that friend. Completing a trade earns a bonus Candy for the Pokémon you’ve traded away, and that bonus can increase if the Pokémon you traded were caught in locations far apart from each other! All trades are powered by Stardust, and some trades require more Stardust than others. As you build your Friendship Level with the friend you are trading with, you’ll find that you can complete the trade with much less Stardust.

Certain Pokémon, such as a Legendary Pokémon, a Shiny Pokémon, or a Pokémon not currently in your Pokédex, require a Special Trade to complete, so keep that in mind before trading away that golden Magikarp! Special Trades can only occur once per day with a Great Friend or Best Friend, and it often requires a lot of Stardust to complete a Special Trade. Special Trades are a great way to show a friend how much you care!

Global Research, Pokémon Sightings, and More Coming During Pokémon GO Summer Tour 2018!

As Trainers from all over the world participate in live events during Pokémon GO Summer Tour 2018, we’re happy to bring amazing in-game opportunities for Trainers everywhere!

Take a look at some of the exciting things coming up on our calendar.

Professor Willow’s Global Challenge

Professor Willow needs your help! On the weekends of our special live events, Trainers from all over the world will be tasked to complete Professor Willow’s Global Challenge! The challenge is simple: complete Field Research tasks!

For the purposes of this challenge, the global community will be split into four parts: The Americas; Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; the Asia-Pacific region; and the main research site itself. Each area will have to complete a set number of Field Research tasks, and if the goals are met, Trainers everywhere will be able to enjoy some amazing bonuses.

There will be three opportunities to complete these Field Research goals throughout the summer, so get ready to work together! At the end of each event, if all goals are met for each area, an even bigger bonus will be unlocked, so stay tuned for more information on this exciting reward!

We’ll let the Professor explain it in his own words:

Thanks so much for your help in gathering important Field Research. Your amazing contributions have already furthered my work, and I have a feeling that at the end of this challenge, something amazing will happen! I wonder what it could be...

I’ve put together this handy chart to help track your progress:

Image

So best of luck, Trainers, and I hope you enjoy my challenge! I can’t wait to see what you’ll find. Time to get up and GO!

—Prof. W.

Thanks, Professor! Trainers, we can’t wait to see you out in the field. Get ready to do some research!

Get Ready for Pokémon GO Safari Zone at Dortmund!

The first event in Professor Willow’s Research Challenge will occur in Dortmund, Germany, during the Safari Zone event. While there is plenty to do in the Dortmund area during this free event, such as encountering Unown and Corsola throughout beautiful Westfalenpark and exciting Raid Battles happening around the city, Trainers worldwide will be able to join in the fun!

In addition to completing Field Research tasks provided by Professor Willow, Trainers all over the world will see increased appearances of the Grass- and Poison-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region, Roselia! Perhaps you’ll have a chance at catching a Shiny Roselia sprouting purple flowers.

So mark your calendars for June 30 and July 1 to take advantage of this cool celebration!

Celebrate Pokémon GO Fest around the World!

Pokémon GO Fest 2018 on July 14 and 15 will be the next stop for fun! Trainers without a ticket to the event won’t be able to see any Pokémon or PokéStops in Lincoln Park, but Trapinch, Feebas, and other Pokémon featured in the habitats of Pokémon GO Fest will appear more frequently all over the world during that weekend.

The Cheering Pokémon, Plusle and Minun, will also appear more frequently worldwide as Trainers complete themed Field Research tasks. Catching Plusle and Minun will result in bonus Stardust, and lucky Trainers might even discover their Shiny versions!

The Alolan forms of Diglett and Geodude will be in on the fun, too. Beginning that weekend Alolan Diglett and Alolan Geodude will be appearing globally for the first time in Pokémon GO. Don’t miss the chance to encounter the unique forms of these Pokémon.

There will be so much to do on the weekend of Pokémon GO Fest, you won’t want to miss it!

Even More Awaits…

Trainers, even more surprises are coming. Keep an eye out for news as we get closer to each event and stay tuned as we continue to announce late-summer events and more!

So get out there and GO!

“At E3, we’re showing how Nintendo Switch continues to redefine play, with the broadest range of games people can enjoy together anytime, anywhere,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Fans who’ve debated which Super Smash Bros. fighter is the best now have the chance to settle their differences once and for all, pitting familiar faces against fresh challengers on stages both new and old. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, and the arrival of Epic’s Fortnite on Nintendo Switch demonstrate the strong momentum Nintendo Switch continues to have through 2018 and beyond.”

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will include every single fighter ever featured in the series’ nearly two-decade run, making it one of the biggest crossover events in gaming history. Fans can enjoy returning favorites like Ice Climbers and Pokémon Trainer, as well as newly announced fighters like Ridley from the Metroid series and Inkling from the Splatoon series. The game supports a variety of controller options, including Nintendo GameCube controllers (original or newly designed), Joy-Con controllers or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. With Nintendo Switch, players can throw down whenever and wherever they like in Handheld or Tabletop mode while enjoying online play.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate combines many stages and new items, with gameplay that makes it easy for players of all skill levels to jump in. Ultimate is set to launch on Dec. 7, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. It is being developed by Nintendo, Sora, Ltd. and BANDAI NAMCO Studios, and is directed by Masahiro Sakurai.

Nintendo also announced that Fortnite, the Battle Royale phenomenon from Epic Games, is available for Nintendo Switch – TODAY. The action never stops with Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, where players can build and battle together anytime, anywhere. Team up online with friends in the same room or around the world. Weekly updates and new gameplay modes will keep the action fresh for seasoned Fortnite players and newcomers alike.
