The Game Awards announced the nominations for Best Role Playing of 2022 and Pokémon Legends: Arceus was one of the five finalists. The category is for the best game designed with rich player character customization and progression, including massively multiplayer experiences. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is up against: Elden Ring, Live a Live, Triangle Strategy and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.


People can vote for their favorite games of 2022 on The Game Awards awards website from November 14th, 2022 until December 8th, 2022. The awards will be announced on December 8th, 2022 during the The Game Awards 2022 broadcast. Winners are determined by a blended vote between the voting jury (90%) and public fan voting (10%).


The Game Awards recognizes and upholds creative and technical excellence in the global video game industry. It was founded in 2014 by media entrepreneur Geoff Keighley, who also hosts and produces the program.

The Tokyo Game Show 2022 (TGS2022) were held from September 15th, 2022 to September 18th, 2022. The Japan Game Awards 2022 Annual Awards were open to all games released between April 1st, 2021 and March 31st, 2022. The Selection Committee selected the award-winning games through a deliberation process. The awards were streamed live on September 15th, 2022 at 16:00 JST and the MC's for the event were Hikaru Ijuin (伊集院光) and Shohei Shibata (柴田将平), an e-sports play-by-play caster.


Pokémon won three awards:

• Global Award Japanese Product (グローバル賞 日本作品部門) for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
• Best Sales Award (ベストセールス賞) for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
• Award for Excellence (優秀賞) for Pokémon LEGENDS Arceus

Junichi Masuda (増田順一) and Yuichi Ueda (植田祐一) were on-hand to receive the award for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Kazumasa Iwao (岩尾和昌) was recognized for the award on behalf of Pokémon LEGENDS Arceus.

Famitsu / Dengeki Game Awards 2019, one of the largest user voting game awards in Japan, had a game award announcement and ceremony on April 18th, 2020. It was streamed online live for viewers to see the results. Pocket Monsters Sword and Shield won two awards, Game of the Year and Best RPG.
