An "Infiltration" Report from the Rocket Gang's Emergency Meeting

The Rocket Gang held an emergency meeting somewhere in Tokyo on Thursday July 13th, 2 days prior to the movie premiere.
On this day, a total of 100 Rocket gang members and aspiring members came together.
Prior to the emergency meeting where a "Grand Project That Will Shake the Entire World" was going to be announced,
everyone were guided to an open plaza near the venue, and when they arrived there, incredibly enough a gigantic Nyarth balloon made its appearance!
This spectacle startled not only the attendants to the meeting, but also random passerbys.

The Nyarth balloon gradually grew bigger and bigger.

The attendants then gathered at the meeting venue one by one, before the emergency meeting started.
Excitement filled the air as the Rocket Gang mark was shown at the screen at the venue.
Some of the Rocket Gang members were also singing along with the Rocket Gang Team Song as it played throughout the venue.

The meeting then finally started, and the attendants shouted with joy as they heard the voices of Musashi, Kojiro and Nyarth echo through the venue.
They got even more excited when Nyarth showed himself.
And then it was finally time for the announcement of the "Grand Project That Will Shake the Entire World".
The project involves the Nyarth balloon from earlier appearing here and there throughout Japan and creating trouble.
This announcement caused a huge stir among the attendants!
The attendants were also overjoyed to hear the announcement that the Nyarth balloon story would be covered by "Oha Suta" (airs Monday through Friday at 7:05am on the TV Tokyo Network),
"Pokémon no Uchi Atsumaru?" (airs every Sunday at 8am on the TV Tokyo Network),
as well as the "Pokémon Fan" issue that will be released Saturday July 15th.
It was then time for Musashi, Kojiro and Nyarth to ask the audience some questions. When Musashi asked "What will you be able to do if you become our subordinates? Do you have any noteworthy skills?", one of the Rocket Gang members replied "I speak English", to which Musashi and Kojiro responded by saying "We're saved!" in unison. When that member was then told "Then you can help us invade the world!", all the other members applauded.

And then, after everyone had watched the world's first screening of the digitally remastered version of "Pocket Monsters episode 1",
they all took a commemorative photo together, after which the emergency meeting concluded without a hitch.

A Report From the Movie Rollout Pre-Screening!

A movie rollout pre-screening was held Sunday July 2nd 2017,
at Tokyo Dome City Hall.

Kanata Hongo (the voice of Soji), Shiori Sato (the voice of Makoto),
Arata Furuta (the voice of Bonji), Shoko Nakagawa (the voice of Joy),
Koichi Yamadera (the voice of Marshadow), Rica Matsumoto (the voice of Satoshi)
and director Kunihiko Yuyama went onto the stage, all wearing yukata.
Director Yuyama gave the first greeting,
saying "This year, we have created a movie based around the theme of once again
re-depicting the bond created when Satoshi and Pikachu met.
Please enjoy this movie packed with 20 years worth of memories."

Next, Rica Matsumoto asked the audience "Have you been waiting for the Pokémon movie?",
and was met with cheerful voices screaming "Yes!"
And when she then yelled "I got a Pokémon!" in Satoshi's voice,
the venue grew even more excited.
"Nowadays, people have stopped telling me it (the Satoshi voice) "sounds like him",
and have instead started saying it "sounds really good"", she said,
as the audience laughed.

Kanata Hongo, the voice of Soji, was next:
"When I was little, I loved the Pokémon anime so much that on the days it aired,
I'd always go straight home to watch it instead of going off to play,
so it made me really happy to be in this year's movie", he commented.

Shiori Sato, the voice of Makoto, told the audience "Everyone,
your eyes are sparkling and you all have cute smiles on your faces even though you've yet to watch the movie...
This makes me realize that Pokémon truly has been loved for these 20 years.
We will live up to your expectations! Please enjoy the movie",
her voice filled with energy.

Arata Furuta, the voice of Bonji, greeted the audience with "I really stick out like a sore thumb, don't I?
I'm sorry, I'm such an old man (laughs)", inviting their laughter.
Furuta mentioned he had done a radio show with Inuko Inuyama, the voice of Nyarth, 20 years ago.
"It's already been 20 years since I told her "Inuyama, your name means dog mountain, yet you're a cat?"", he said,
reflecting on that time 20 years in the past.

Shoko Nakagawa, the voice of Joy, cheerfully greeted the audience with a "Pokénchiwa!"
"Lots of people have been involved with Pokémon in more ways than you can count,
and they've made so many friends the world has become one with Pokémon,
and that fact that this summer, we are able to be witness to the birth of the ultimate masterpiece,
the fruit of all these people's 20 years of memories,
means we are experiencing first-hand the legacy..."
she said with passion in her voice,
going on and on until Yamadera, who was standing next to her, warned her that "You're just supposed to say a few words. I tell you this every year"...
She ended by loudly shouting "I'm so happy I encountered Pokémon!".

And from Koichi Yamadera, the voice of the mythical Pokémon "Marshadow", we got the following greeting:
"I can't watch this movie without tearing up. It's a wonderful movie truly befitting the 20th anniversary,
one that both people that have always supported Pokémon, people that used to watch Pokémon and people that are now watching Pokémon for the first time
will all truly enjoy and be touched by."
"The Marshadow I play doesn't talk very much,
but I give it a very intriguing voice, so please remember what it sounds like and try to imitate it.
And please send me videos and such where you try doing Marshadow's voice (laughs)", he commented.
And as Yamadera performed the Marshadow role live,
many voices imitating the Marshadow voice came from the audience.

After the greetings were over, there was a segment where everyone looked at 20 year old photos together with the guest voice actors.
Hongo was 6 years old back then. A picture of him wearing roller blades appeared on the screen.
He was wearing his cap backwards, so it seems he was aware of Satoshi.
When Hongo was asked was he'd tell this past self,
he replied "If I told him "You'll be able to go on an adventure with Satoshi in 20 years",
I'm sure he'd be really happy."
He then turned to the audience and told then "I'm sure Pokémon will go on forever,
so the day you guys will be able to go on an adventure with Satoshi might come as well.
I'll be really happy if you keep loving Pokémon forever."

Matsumoto singing "Mezase Pokémon Master"
at the Next Generation World Hobby Fair 20 years ago
was shown on the screen as well.

When Nakagawa was asked if she, 20 years ago, ever thought she'd be involved with Pokémon to the extent she is now,
she replied "I didn't even dream of it!
I realized that sometimes, dreams come true in ways that exceed your wildest delusions!"

Finally, 20 Pikachu appeared,
wearing sashes with the 20 movies' titles written on them!
Happy shouting about how cute they were came from the audience.
And then, these Pikachu, the guest voice actors and the entire audience took a photo together,
all of them striking the "I Choose You!" pose!

This became a wonderful movie rollout pre-screening,
overflowing with all kinds of thoughts: Thoughts of 20 years ago, thoughts of 20 years, and thoughts of the present.

The movie finally premieres about 2 weeks from now, on Saturday July 15th!

A Status Report from the Next Generation World Hobby Fair '17 Summer!

The Next Generation World Hobby Fair '17 Summer was held at Makuhari Messe Saturday June 24th and Sunday June 25th.
Since the movie is going to premiere soon,
the Pokémon Booth was filled with tons and tons of info on "Pocket Monsters the Movie: I Choose You!"
The "Latest Pokémon Movie News Stage Show" was hosted by Abareru-kun and Rinka Otani on day 1,
and by Shoko Nakagawa and Rinka Otani on day 2.
These shows were packed with content: They'd play "Fully Powered Pose 1-2-3!" with the visitors,
hold quizzes, occasionally have concerts... and lots more.
When they asked "Are there any dads or moms here that watched the first movie,
"Mewtwo Strikes Back!", as a kid?"
several people raised their hands,
truly letting you relive the 20 years of history that Pokémon now has.
The fact that so extremely many people showed up
strongly got across how much everyone anticipates this movie!

The Pokémon Booth also had the "Okido Laboratories", which let you experience the world of "Pocket Monsters the Movie: I Choose You!"
Lots of people were lined up here as well,
in order to search for Pikachu inside the laboratories!
There was also the "I Choose You!! shouting contest",
which measured how high the visitors shouted "xxx! I Choose You!"
Lots of visitors wanted to try this, so the excitement level was high!

The Pokémon Booth also had a trial play area featuring the first Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch,
"Pokkén Tournament DX".
Lots of people were lined up here to play this game early.
There was also a "Japan's First Pokkén DX Battle Show" held at the Pokémon Booth stage,
and lots of visitors raised their hands in order to challenge self-appointed Pokkén Master Akira!

The "Z-Move Battle Laboratory & MonCollé Stage Show" was filled with fun,
including a presentation of the "Get Fully Powered with Rotom! Z-Move Laboratory" toy scheduled for release in July,
a 20th anniversary MonCollé quiz, and more!
And at the "Special Pokémon Ga-Olé Concert",
not only was the "Special "I Choose You Cap Pikachu" Ga-Olé Disk" you receive when you go see the movie battled with,
Hideaki Takatori, Aya Ikeda and Tatsuyuki Kobayashi also showed up and performed the Pokémon Ga-Olé theme song live,
all to great excitement from the audience!

The "Pokénchi Presents A Special "Pocket Monsters the Movie: I Choose You!" Stage Show" was held at the Next Generation WHF Stage Saturday June 24th!
Pokénchi residents Shoko Nakagawa, Hyadain, Abareru-kun and Rinka Otani were there,
all wearing Satoshi hats!
And of course, Pikachu later appeared as well, leading to the venue breaking out in excitement!
Professor Ichiohka came on stage as well,
bringing with him an aluminium balloon that accurately replicated the legendary Pokémon "Houou"'s actual size.
When the aluminium balloon spread its wings, it became as big as the entire stage itself,
shocking both the hosts and the audience.

Later, Satoshi's voice actress Rica Matsumoto showed up as a special guest!
After enjoying a fun Pokémon Quiz with the audience,
everyone watched a special trailer for the movie together.
This special trailer was filled with nothing but intriguing scenes,
including Satoshi's first meeting with Pikachu and his subsequent profound dialogue, a look at Marshadow, and more!

After that,
Hyadain and Abareru-kun had a Pokémon battle where they used the mythical Pokémon "Marshadow",
which you receive in "Pocket Monsters Sun/Moon" when you go see the movie,
and which you can't meet during normal gameplay!
Everyone were surprised at how powerful Marshadow's exclusive Z-Move "Soul-Stealing 7-Star Strike" was!

Finally, Rica Matsumoto sang the opening theme for this year's movie,
"Mezase Pokémon Master 20th Anniversary"!
Her powerful singing voice got everyone into a great mood!

A riddle has been set up at the official Pokémon movie website
to commemorate the start of the Real Dasshutsu Game "Escape from Houou's Trial",
which commemorates the premiere of "Pocket Monsters the Movie: I Choose You!"!!
The Rainbow Feather has disappeared from the official movie website.
If you touch the missing feather, a treasure chest and four keys will appear.
Solve the riddles to obtain the four keys,
then retrieve the Rainbow Feather that someone sealed away!

What is the Real Dasshutsu Game/Pokémon the Movie 20 crossover "Escape from Houou's Trial"?

This is a personal experience-type game event set in permanent Real Dasshutsu Game establishments and the cities they are located in,
where you solve riddles scattered throughout the city one after another together with Pokémon.
Players become rookie Pokémon Trainers,
choose their first Partner Pokémon from "Fushigidane", "Zenigame" and "Hitokage",
then set off on an adventure.

A Report from the Public Dubbing Event

A public dubbing event took place somewhere in Tokyo Wednesday June 15th.
Present on stage were Kanata Hongo, the voice of Soji, Shiori Sato, the voice of Makoto, Koichi Yamadera, the voice of Marshadow, Shoko Nakagawa, the voice of Joy, Arata Furuta, the voice of Bonji, and Director Yuyama.

Sato went to see the very first movie in the theater as a child. This time, she plays the lively and masculine Makoto.
She had trouble getting the running scene right, and had to practice it many times.

Hongo liked Pokémon so much as a kid he wouldn't go play outside on the days it aired on TV. He performs his role as Soji, the boy with a calm exterior hiding true passion, with great skill.
He spoke of his role with the line "I can now die without any regrets", which made the other actors laugh heartily.

Nakagawa is playing in her 11th Pokémon movie this year, and performs a passionate portrayal of Joy, whom she greatly admires. Her performance was so perfect the director even called it "the very image of Joy".
"I've made use of my 11 years of experience and the director's words in every single moment of my life to turn my entire life into Pokémon", she said with passion in her voice.

Furuta was told to "make his performance more excited" and instantly switched gears, playing a Bonji that was profound, yet at the same time overflowing with excitement. Furuta has said he doesn't use his natural speaking voice when voice acting, but he did exactly that this time, and commented that "It actually made me feel really awkward".

Yamadera has played in 20 movies in a row so far, and this time he's in charge of Marshadow's voice. "I have less lines this time than I've ever had before, but it's also my most difficult role so far", he said. He goes on to say he tried various methods in order to follow the difficult instructions he was given, like "It shouldn't sound normal, it shouldn't sound like a voice" and "Make the sound come from your respiratory tract". During the dubbing, he gave us a strange tone of voice that contained both two and three sounds at the same time, which impressed everyone present, the director included.

The session concluded with everyone playing a finger pointing game based on the movie's title "I Choose You!": "If you had to choose one of the guest voice actors to be your travelmate, who would you choose?"
The guest voice actors went "Won't that just cause arguments later?" and "Are you really making us do this? (laughs)" with bitter smiles on their faces.
The end result was that Nakagawa, Yamadera and Furuta pointed to Hongo, Sato pointed to Furuta, and Director Yuyama pointed to Yamadera.

There's only one month left until the movie premieres! Make sure to check out the passionate performances from all the guest voice actors in the theater!!
