Total sales of Nintendo Switch in the Americas have reached 17.5 million units.

“Whether shopping for the ideal gift or picking one up for yourself, the Nintendo Switch family of systems provides options that fit every play style.”

Making Pokémon Curry with the Developers of Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield

Nintendo Minute is never a minute! This week we did something truly special. We got a chance to make Pokémon curry with developers Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori from GAME FREAK, Inc. In the Wild Area in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, there is a really cool curry making feature complete with a curry dex with over 100 curries. That’s a lot of curry! We thought we would try to recreate the Spicy Sausage Curry IRL while we chat with the developers about Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. We had so much fun and it was really yummy.

Press Release - New Nintendo Direct Highlights Next Wave of Games Coming to Nintendo Switch

Pokémon Sword / Pokémon Shield: New details (and two new Pokémon!) were revealed for the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games, launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch on Nov. 15.

  • Polteageist is a ghost-type Pokémon, and makes a home for itself by hiding among dishes at hotels and restaurants. Its body is made of tea, and it may even let a trusting Trainer have a taste of its tea. The flying- and water-type Pokémon Cramorant will swallow absolutely anything that looks hearty enough. It has an exclusive ability called Gulp Missile. While using Surf or Dive in battle, it will counter when attacked.
  • Players will be able to travel through the new Galar region in style. In this game, players can outfit their main Trainer in tops, bottoms, outerwear, gloves, new hairstyles and even a little makeup. During their journey, players can camp any time at Pokémon Camp. While there, players can play with Pokémon and get to know them better. In the new Wild Area, players can visit other players’ camps as well. Up to four players and their Pokémon can hang out at a camp together. Pokémon Camp is also a great place to cook up some Curry on Rice. In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, there are many types of delicious Curry on Rice that can be registered to the Curry Dex.

Cramorant

Cramorant

Category: Gulp Pokémon
Type: Flying/Water
Height: 2'7"
Weight: 39.7 lbs.
Ability: Gulp Missile

A voracious eater—Cramorant is insatiable. When it comes to food, it will try to swallow anything it can fit in its mouth. Sometimes it will swallow things that aren’t its intended prey, spitting them out in a hurry once it realizes its mistake.

It never forgets its bond with its Trainer. Cramorant can be forgetful, but it will never forget a Trainer it grows to trust. However, it seems that even Trainers will face fierce attacks from their Cramorant if they try to steal its food.

Cramorant’s Ability, Gulp Missile, is a new Ability introduced in these titles, and it can be triggered during battles. After Cramorant uses Surf or Dive, it will return with a catch in its mouth. If it takes damage while in this state, Cramorant will retaliate by spitting out its catch at the attacker!

Polteageist

Cramorant

Category: Black Tea Pokémon
Type: Ghost
Height: 8"
Weight: .9 lbs.
Ability: Weak Armor

Black tea with a distinct aroma and flavor. Polteageist’s body is made from black tea and is said to have a very distinct aroma and flavor. It will only allow a Trainer it trusts to sample its tea. However, drinking too much can lead to indigestion or an upset stomach, so be careful!

Pests for hotels and restaurants. Many Polteageist make their homes inside hotels and restaurants, disguising themselves and hiding among the tableware. They can pour their power into leftover tea and create even more of their kind, so they’re often treated as pests.

Head to a hair salon to get a haircut and a new look

Salons let you choose your haircut and hair color, style your eyebrows, or even swap out your color contacts! Spice up your adventure by changing your look to match your favorite outfit or the uniform you wear during your Gym Challenge!

Trading Pokémon is easy with Surprise Trades—you just never know who you might trade with!

In these games, you can use Y-Comm to do things like trade Pokémon and have Link Battles via the internet or local communication. If you see a stamp pop up during your adventure, it might be a sign that another player is looking for somebody to connect with! You’ll be able to trade and have Link Battles with friends by checking these stamps, but they can also be invitations from people you’ve never met before!

Image Image Image

One of the features available on the Y-Comm menu is the Surprise Trade. Select a Pokémon from your Boxes that you’re willing to trade, and that’s it! A trading partner will automatically be found as you continue on your adventure!

The game will keep trying to match you with a trading partner even as you engage in the Pokémon battles or other activities you’ll find while exploring Galar, so there’s no need for you to hunt for a trading partner or feel like you’re left waiting!

These trades can be carried out with players from around the world if you’re using the internet. But with local communication, you can even get a trade from someone around you before you know what’s happening! Head out to lots of different places, and see if you can get a Surprise Trade! You won’t know what Pokémon you’ll get in exchange for your Pokémon until you actually receive it. If you’re lucky, you might end up with a rare Pokémon.

Membership in the Nintendo Switch Online (paid) service is required to participate in Link Trades and Link Battles using the internet. There’s no need to set up a membership for local communication use.

Press Release - MORE POKÉMON SWORD AND POKÉMON SHIELD DETAILS REVEALED INCLUDING MAX RAID BATTLES AND THE WILD AREA

New Gym Leader and Poké Ball Plus Compatibility Also Announced

More details were revealed today about Max Raid Battles and the Wild Area, new features in the highly anticipated games, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. A new Gym Leader and Poké Ball Plus compatibility with the games were also announced. The newest additions to the main series of the Pokémon role-playing video game franchise, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be launching November 15, 2019 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch™ system.

Pokémon in the Wild Area
The Wild Area, a vast expanse of land in the Galar region, is home to a wide variety of Pokémon. When exploring the Wild Area for the first time, Trainers will encounter powerful wild Pokémon who are constantly on guard. The types of Pokémon that appear as well as battlefield conditions can be affected by the weather in the Wild Area. For example, a Trainer who enters a battle during a thunderstorm will find the power of their Water- and Electric-type moves increased.

Max Raid Battles
Max Raid Battles occur in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield when four players join forces to take on a wild Dynamax Pokémon in the Wild Area. Trainers can find other players who want to participate in a Max Raid Battle through a notification on their Y-Comm, a new feature in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. On the Y-Comm screen, players can also trade Pokémon and have Link Battle via the internet or local WiFi connection.

When Pokémon Dynamax, a phenomenon unique to the Galar region, they grow to gigantic proportions and gain tremendous power. Trainers can encounter different species of Dynamax Pokémon with varying strengths when they explore Pokémon Dens located throughout the Wild Area. In battle, wild Dynamax Pokémon might use multiple moves in one turn, neutralize the challenging Pokémon’s Ability, or even remove all stat changes that have been put in place. Wild Dynamax Pokémon can also create mysterious barriers that prevent almost all damage. To damage a Pokémon behind one of these barriers, Trainers will need to break it down by repeatedly attacking it. When a player’s Pokémon are knocked out in the Max Raid Battles, they can still assist other Trainers by cheering them on. If a Trainer emerges victorious from a Max Raid Battle, not only will all participating Trainers have an opportunity to catch the defeated Dynamax Pokémon, they will also be rewarded with many useful items.

Nessa, A Water-type Gym Leader
Pokémon Gyms are found in stadiums throughout the Galar region and attract Trainers that are experts in specific types of Pokémon. To become Champion, players will need to defeat the top Trainer in each Pokémon Gym, also known as the Gym Leader. In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Trainers will encounter Nessa, a Gym Leader who is an expert on Water-type Pokémon. Her calm and collected attitude hide a competitive spirit and indomitable will that becomes apparent when she overwhelms opponents in battle with powerful Water-type moves.

Poké Ball Plus Compatibility
When a Trainer syncs their Poké Ball Plus with Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, they will be able to transfer their favorite Pokémon to the Poké Ball Plus and take them for a stroll in the real world. The Poké Ball Plus will light up and vibrate and even the Pokémon’s cry can be heard occasionally. Newly purchased Poké Ball Plus’ will contain the Mythical Pokémon Mew. If players link a new Poké Ball Plus to Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield they will be able to receive this Mew in their linked game.
