The New Pokémon Event Manager Has Arrived

Professors and Tournament Organizers can download the latest application for running Play! Pokémon events.

The Pokémon Event Manager (PEM) is a new application for tracking Play! Pokémon sanctioned competitions. It's available as early-access software for Professors and Tournament Organizers so they can explore and become familiar with it.

With the new PEM, organizers will be able to create new tournaments directly from within the software itself, making it easier and faster to set up events. PEM will also have online Player ID verification when it's connected to the internet. These are just some of the exciting features to check out, and many more are on the way.

PEM will replace the existing Tournament Operations Manager (TOM) software as soon as live Play! Pokémon events resume. For the time being, Professors and Organizers can use PEM to practice creating dummy events and uploading results using player accounts generated just for testing purposes.

The current version does not support larger tournaments, such as the Regional Championships, but that functionality and other related features will be available before those events take place next.

PEM is under continual development, so look forward to regular updates that improve functionality and add features to this software.

Play! Pokémon Live Competitions and Events Remain Suspended Through 2020

Look for more ways to play at home now, and the resumption of Play! Pokémon activities starting in 2021.

Since the initial announcement in March that all Play! Pokémon Program events would be cancelled, we've been closely monitoring the global health pandemic. In keeping with a commitment to ensure the safety of fans, players, and organizers, the Organized Play team is continuing to assess the situation. As of September 2020, we have determined that the Play! Pokémon Program will remain suspended through the remainder of 2020.

Please check back in November 2020 for more details and announcements regarding our Play! Pokémon program in early 2021.

In the meantime, Pokémon Trading Card Game players can continue to participate in League at Home events. We will also be providing additional details about a new Pokémon TCG Online series named Play! Pokémon Team Challenge launching later this year.

Until we can all play together in person again, stay safe and enjoy playing and battling online.

The Pokémon Company has announced new information about the Play! Pokémon 2021 Championship Series. It is just preliminary information as more will be revealed.

Image

Play! Pokémon 2021 Championship Series Information

Get a first look at plans for the upcoming season and qualifications for the 2021 Pokémon World Championships.

Planning is underway for the 2021 Championship Series season. Pokémon Organized Play joins players in looking forward to the resumption of exciting competitions around the world. The health and safety of our communities continue to be the most important aspect of resuming live events, and the situation is being continually monitored. The timing for the next live Play! Pokémon events will be determined by the health mandates, guidelines, and recommendations provided by appropriate government agencies.

This update provides information about the 2021 Championship Series season under the assumption that play can resume in some form over the next 12 months. Play! Pokémon events remain suspended, but the plans for the next season anticipate that the Pokémon World Championships will take place in London in August 2021.

Accordingly, the following changes are being made:

  • The age division for players in the 2021 season will be the same as the age division for the 2020 season
    • Junior Division: Born in 2009 or later
    • Senior Division: Born in 2005, 2006, 2007, or 2008
    • Masters Division: Born in 2004 or earlier
  • The 2021 World Championships will take place over four days, beginning on a Thursday.
  • The Championship Points (CP) that eligible players earned in 2020 will transfer in whole to the 2021 season. Players will continue to add to this total with any CP earned in the 2021 season.
  • There will be two CP qualification bars:
    • Thursday players: players who reach the qualification bar that is the same as the 2020 bar. Therefore, players who previously qualified for Worlds are still qualified for 2021.
    • Friday players: players who reach a new CP bar set in 2021 when more information is available about qualifying events. Players who hit the Friday CP bar will skip play on Thursday.
    • The number of CP for qualification will be announced at a later date.
  • Information on Best Finish Limits will be available at a later time.

This is only the first update regarding the 2021 Championship Series season. Further updates will be provided as more information is confirmed.
