Press Release - MORE POKÉMON SWORD AND POKÉMON SHIELD DETAILS REVEALED INCLUDING MAX RAID BATTLES AND THE WILD AREA

New Gym Leader and Poké Ball Plus Compatibility Also Announced

More details were revealed today about Max Raid Battles and the Wild Area, new features in the highly anticipated games, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. A new Gym Leader and Poké Ball Plus compatibility with the games were also announced. The newest additions to the main series of the Pokémon role-playing video game franchise, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be launching November 15, 2019 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch™ system.

Pokémon in the Wild Area
The Wild Area, a vast expanse of land in the Galar region, is home to a wide variety of Pokémon. When exploring the Wild Area for the first time, Trainers will encounter powerful wild Pokémon who are constantly on guard. The types of Pokémon that appear as well as battlefield conditions can be affected by the weather in the Wild Area. For example, a Trainer who enters a battle during a thunderstorm will find the power of their Water- and Electric-type moves increased.

Max Raid Battles
Max Raid Battles occur in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield when four players join forces to take on a wild Dynamax Pokémon in the Wild Area. Trainers can find other players who want to participate in a Max Raid Battle through a notification on their Y-Comm, a new feature in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. On the Y-Comm screen, players can also trade Pokémon and have Link Battle via the internet or local WiFi connection.

When Pokémon Dynamax, a phenomenon unique to the Galar region, they grow to gigantic proportions and gain tremendous power. Trainers can encounter different species of Dynamax Pokémon with varying strengths when they explore Pokémon Dens located throughout the Wild Area. In battle, wild Dynamax Pokémon might use multiple moves in one turn, neutralize the challenging Pokémon’s Ability, or even remove all stat changes that have been put in place. Wild Dynamax Pokémon can also create mysterious barriers that prevent almost all damage. To damage a Pokémon behind one of these barriers, Trainers will need to break it down by repeatedly attacking it. When a player’s Pokémon are knocked out in the Max Raid Battles, they can still assist other Trainers by cheering them on. If a Trainer emerges victorious from a Max Raid Battle, not only will all participating Trainers have an opportunity to catch the defeated Dynamax Pokémon, they will also be rewarded with many useful items.

Nessa, A Water-type Gym Leader
Pokémon Gyms are found in stadiums throughout the Galar region and attract Trainers that are experts in specific types of Pokémon. To become Champion, players will need to defeat the top Trainer in each Pokémon Gym, also known as the Gym Leader. In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Trainers will encounter Nessa, a Gym Leader who is an expert on Water-type Pokémon. Her calm and collected attitude hide a competitive spirit and indomitable will that becomes apparent when she overwhelms opponents in battle with powerful Water-type moves.

Poké Ball Plus Compatibility
When a Trainer syncs their Poké Ball Plus with Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, they will be able to transfer their favorite Pokémon to the Poké Ball Plus and take them for a stroll in the real world. The Poké Ball Plus will light up and vibrate and even the Pokémon’s cry can be heard occasionally. Newly purchased Poké Ball Plus’ will contain the Mythical Pokémon Mew. If players link a new Poké Ball Plus to Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield they will be able to receive this Mew in their linked game. Unlike in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, the Poké Ball Plus cannot be used as a controller in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield.

DETECTIVE PIKACHU COMING SOON TO NINTENDO 3DS

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo announced Detective Pikachu, a new video game scheduled to release exclusively on the Nintendo 3DSTM family of systems both digitally and at retail on 23 March 2018. An action-adventure title, Detective Pikachu finds the hero of the title – a unique Pikachu in the Pokémon world – partnering with Tim Goodman and searching for evidence and clues to solve a series of cases, whilst also investigating the disappearance of Tim’s father, Harry Goodman.

image image

When he arrives in Ryme City looking for his missing father, little does Tim know he would meet a Pikachu, but more amazingly a Pikachu who he could communicate with. There’s more to this Pikachu than a detective hat – he’s one lovably gruff, tough-talking sleuth, with a taste for good coffee.

image

This Pikachu claims that he worked with Tim’s father, and the two pair up to discover his whereabouts. Together, Tim and Detective Pikachu will encounter a number of mysteries in Ryme City and will need to talk to witnesses and gather their testimony in order to discover the truth. Cases that would be impossible for Tim to solve alone can be cracked with the help of this Pikachu, because he is able to obtain vital clues and information from other Pokémon.

Detective Pikachu includes all the chapters of the 2016 Japan-exclusive Nintendo eShop release, Detective Pikachu – Birth of a New Duo, but adds further content that completes the story. The game features new locations to explore, as well as a colourful cast of both Pokémon and human characters.

For those players who are new to sleuthing and may need some help in uncovering the evidence, Detective Pikachu features an Easy Mode, where the title character will provide handy hints on what to do or where to go next.

A special Detective Pikachu amiibo is also planned for when the game launches. It’s larger than a regular amiibo, and it allows players to view all the Pika Prompts (short video clips) from chapters they have completed, including ones they missed finding earlier. These clips feature Pikachu’s quips and antics – and may even contain a hint.

Press Release - Pokémon Rumble World

Control cute Toy Pokémon and have exhilarating battles in Pokémon Rumble World! This downloadable game for systems in the Nintendo 3DS family is packed with Pokémon that you can battle and befriend. You can collect 719 species of Pokémon—all the ones that have appeared in the video games up through Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. When you defeat one of the wild Pokémon you meet in a stage, it sometimes becomes your friend. Even Mega-Evolving Pokémon will join the battles, a first for a game in the Pokémon Rumble series!

Befriend as many Pokémon as you can—as you collect more species of Pokémon, your Adventurer Rank goes up. As your Adventurer Rank goes up, the shop will offer more products, and stages will feature stronger Pokémon.

It's not just Pokémon that will appear in Pokémon Rumble World. Your Mii character will also appear in your game, as well as the Mii characters of players you pass! It's the first time in the Pokémon Rumble series that Mii characters have joined in to interact with Pokémon and have adventures together.

Your story is set in the kingdom of toys, and the adventure starts when the king summons you. He explains his frustration at having only one Pikachu. In contrast, a mysterious magician has captured several Pokémon! So the king asks you to show that magician a thing or two by collecting lots more Pokémon, and he lends you his Pikachu to get you started on your adventures. Depart from the castle town via a hot-air balloon to get to different areas where wild Toy Pokémon await!

It's fun to connect with other friends playing Pokémon Rumble World. Players can visit your castle town via StreetPass. Connect your Nintendo 3DS system to the Internet, and Mii characters of faraway players will visit you. They can even provide support for you in future battles in a variety of ways.

Poké Diamonds are meant to make your adventures even more exciting and easy. With Poké Diamonds, you can get hot-air balloons, clothes for your Mii character, extras that provide more fun in your game play, and more. In addition, Poké Diamonds can be used to continue playing in a stage after your Pokémon's HP runs out, as well as to re-inflate hot-air balloons that have become deflated after use. You can acquire them in various ways, including at the beginning of the adventure and when you speak to Mii characters who come to the castle town via StreetPass. You can also purchase Poké Diamonds at the shop in the castle town via Nintendo eShop.

You'll be able to download Pokémon Rumble World from Nintendo eShop starting April 8, 2015.

In-game purchases are available and allow for quicker progress through the game.

About Lucario

Lucario can track a form of energy called an aura, given off by all living creatures. Lucario is the only known Fighting- and Steel-type Pokémon and evolves from Riolu during the day when its happiness is high enough. Lucario specializes in attacks that use aura energy, like Dark Pulse, and its can't-miss move, Aura Sphere.

  • Lucario is fighting type Pokémon, making him perfectly suited to battle as an amiibo.
  • First appearing in the popular Pokémon Diamond and Pearl game series, Lucario continues with strong presence in key Pokémon games such as Black and White, and X and Y.
  • Most currently, Lucario returns as a fighter in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U.
  • Unlike the other characters, Lucario's power grows as his damage percentage increases, which will certainly add a new dimension as you level up with your amiibo!
