GO Battle League Season 3 begins Monday, July 27, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7)

Trainers, Season 2 of the GO Battle League is nearing its end, and we’re excited to share all that’s happened within the past several weeks!

GO Battle League Season 2 Recap
There were a lot of changes that happened in Season 2! Trainers who reached rank 10 earned a fun new avatar pose. We tested out the Premier Cup format, and it was so well received that we decided to bring it back for Season 3.

We’re also excited to share that Trainers have completed one billion battles in the GO Battle League! We are thrilled to bring Trainers even more opportunities to battle during Season 3.

Season 2 rewards, Season 3 timeline, and what to expect
Once Season 3 begins on Monday, July 27, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), your end-of-season rewards for Season 2 will be available on the Battle screen! You can expect similar end-of-season rewards for Season 2, except that you’ll receive an Elite Fast TM instead of Elite Charged TM if you reached rank 7 or higher! Season 3 will follow the same league rotation as Season 2, as noted in the schedule below, with a notable addition: the Premier Cup is now coming to Ultra League, too!

  • The Great League will run from Monday, July 27, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, August 10, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7).
  • The Ultra League and its Premier Cup will run from Monday, August 10, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, August 24, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7). This Premier Cup will have a 2500 CP limit.
  • The Master League and its Premier Cup will run from Monday, August 24, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, September 7, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7). This Premier Cup will have no CP limit.
  • All three leagues and the Premier Cup (no CP limit) will be available from Monday, September 7, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, September 14, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7).
  • Season 4 will begin Monday, September 14, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7).
These dates are tentative, and we’ll be sure to update you if anything changes.

Expect the following to stay the same in Season 3:
  • There will not be a walking requirement in order to battle in the GO Battle League.
  • The Friendship level requirement for battling remotely will remain at Good Friends throughout Season 3. Remember that you can scan another Trainer’s QR code to battle them, no matter where they are.
  • The avatar items inspired by Pikachu Libre will continue to be rank 7 rewards.
  • The battles, wins, and ratings required to reach ranks will remain the same.
What’s new in Season 3?
There’ll be a few changes coming to the GO Battle League and Trainer Battles for Season 3.

  • More cups will be added! In addition to the Ultra League Premier Cup, we’re introducing the Flying Cup, where only Flying-type Pokémon will be allowed! The Flying Cup will be available during an upcoming event—more details to come!
  • Based on Trainer feedback, we’ve decided to remove the Battle Until You Win feature for Season 3.
  • Your guaranteed reward encounters will be a bit different for Season 3. At each listed rank, you'll encounter these Pokémon:

  • Trainers who finish Season 3 at rank 7 or higher will receive an Elite Charged TM rather than an Elite Fast TM. Besides that change, end-of-season rewards will stay the same as in Season 2.

Samsung’s Summer of Galaxy promotion is in full swing as the company looks to entice customers who might be thinking about buying a 5G smartphone. It sells both mid-range and flagship 5G phones so there’s something for everyone. The promotion kicked off last week and the company is now giving away another incentive in the form of an exclusive Pokémon GO Avatar.

Image

Grab your exclusive Pokémon Go avatar - Samsung offering Pokémon GO avatar as new Summer of Galaxy reward

The incentives announced previously are also available. Anyone who buys a Galaxy S20 5G series handset, the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G or the Galaxy A71 5G in the United States through the end of July will get a free one-year subscription to Postmates Unlimited. This service costs $99 per year and provides free delivery on a minimum basket size of $12. Samsung is also giving away $25 in Postmates credit as well as $50 Galaxy Store credit.

The reward that it’s giving away this week is an exclusive Pokémon Go avatar set that has its matching tie dye shirt and hat. This tie dye outfit is available exclusively through Samsung’s Summer of Galaxy promotion.

Pokemon Go players can unlock this hat and shirt in the game by redeeming a special code in the Summer of Galaxy Owner Rewards Portal. They will then need to visit Niantic’s Redemption portal to unlock the avatar set. This exclusive Pokémon Go avatar will be available starting July 13.

Niantic has announced that Jessie and James from Team Rocket will be flying around in-game in their Meowth balloon and that Team GO Rocket has taken over the GO Fest Weekly Challenge.

Image

Battle Jessie and James by finding their Meowth balloon!

Trainers, A mysterious duo has arrived in Pokémon GO via a...Meowth balloon? The two call themselves Jessie and James, and it looks like they’re up to no good! Help us defeat them!

As Team GO Rocket’s balloons prowl the skies, we’ve been investigating them further. The Grunts piloting the balloons are just as perplexed as we are as to where these characters came from. From what we understand, Team GO Rocket has assigned Shadow Pokémon to protect Jessie and James as they seek to create more Shadow Pokémon.

This is where you all come in! Check the map to see whether Jessie and James’s Meowth balloon is flying by. When the Meowth balloon appears, tap it to battle Jessie and James.

Plus, avatar items inspired by Jessie and James are now available in the shop!

It looks like Jessie and James won’t be here for long, so let’s GO teach these silly villains who’s boss before they leave.

We’ll share any other intercepted messages we receive if something like this happens again! Sources seem to point to the following information.

Niantic has announced details about the Team GO Rocket Balloons that have appeared in Pokémon GO starting on July 7th, 2020. The Willow Report: Strange Scraps were reporting on this event from June 30th, 2020 until July 6th, 2020.

Image

Look up, Trainers—Team GO Rocket balloons have arrived in Pokémon GO!

Trainers, Mysterious balloons have popped up in the sky, and the culprit is Team GO Rocket! With these Team GO Rocket balloon invasions, you can now battle Team GO Rocket anywhere on the map. We ask that you keep an eye out for balloons in the sky and battle the Team GO Rocket Grunts and Leaders piloting them. Who knows—you may even find Giovanni! Reports show that they appear once every few hours, but could appear more often during takeovers.

1. Tap a balloon to battle Team GO Rocket: Be ready for a challenge! Tap a Team GO Rocket balloon, pick your battle party, and defeat Team GO Rocket to rescue their Shadow Pokémon. Team GO Rocket balloons will hover near you for a limited time, so be sure to check the map for balloons and tap them before they fly away!

2. Equip your Rocket Radar to encounter balloons with Team GO Rocket Leaders: When you have a Rocket Radar equipped, you can find Sierra, Cliff, or Arlo piloting a Team GO Rocket balloon.

3. Equip your Super Rocket Radar to encounter Giovanni: It appears that even the boss of Team GO Rocket himself can be found riding in a Team GO Rocket balloon! If you activate and equip a Super Rocket Radar, Giovanni’s balloon is certain to appear.

Turns out, Professor Willow and the team leaders were on to something when they discovered those scraps of paper! With Team GO Rocket flying across the world of Pokémon GO, we’ll need as many of you as possible to help defeat them! Keep an eye out for these Rocket balloons, and continue to train. Hopefully this will be the extent of their mischief and they’ll surrender now before we have to prepare for more fights. But just in case...we might have to revisit the original plan for the GO Fest Weekly Challenge: Battle Timed Research. Stay tuned for more updates on what that Timed Research will now entail, as well as the accompanying battle-themed event.
