Pokémon fans can begin to watch a new seven-episode limited animated series, “Pokémon: Twilight Wings,” on the official Pokémon YouTube channel today. Presented by The Pokémon Company International, the series takes place in the newly explorable Galar region in the Pokémon world. The first episode, “Letter,” introduces characters living in the Galar region, where Pokémon battles have developed into a cultural sensation. A new episode, each approximately five minutes in length, will be introduced every month until the series concludes this summer.

John is a young boy who’s been hospital-bound from an early age. Ever since he saw his first Pokémon battle on TV, he’s been a big fan of Champion Leon—and he’s dreamed of watching one of Leon’s matches in a stadium. Could a visit from Chairman Rose pave the way for his dreams to come true?

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield were released as incomplete games. There wasn't a lack of criticism at their release from not including the entire National Dex, to cutting Pokémon and moves, to poor quality animation and the high price of the games. Now, less than 2 months after release, The Pokémon Company has announced an Expansion Pass for the games as DLC and have the audacity to charge people $30 USD for the privileged of getting the content that should have been in the games in the first place.

This is a symptom of the entire gaming industry not just Game Freak and The Pokémon Company though. They know people will pay for the content regardless, so they do it. Here in Canada, the MSRP of the games is $80 CND plus tax which brings it to $90.40. The dual pack is $180CND. The games are more expensive than any of the previous Pokémon games and that's not even taking into consideration the price of the Switch console which ranges from $279 to $399 depending on the version. These games are targeted at children and families, but as the price of entry into these games keep going up, the target audience keeps getting shutout because of the price. I don't know many kids (or parents) that can afford to keep paying these prices. The more gamers keep paying these prices, the more companies will keep doing it, so the cycle never ends. Until there is some kind of regulation through government intervention into these business practices, it will continue.

I have always been a proponent of Physical game releases. Digital releases while convenient, it just doesn't have the same appeal or sense of ownership that physical releases have. It's too easy for the companies to just keep releasing overpriced digital content rather than make a quality product and that's where we've arrived in the Pokémon franchise now. This DLC content should have been included in the original SwSh releases because let's face it, for an $80, supposedly AAA game, they amount of gameplay in SwSh is by far lacking even when comparing it to previous Pokémon games!

If this DLC was a fair price or a free upgrade, I don't think I'd be as annoyed and disappointed in a franchise I've supported for over 2 decades now. This release is also a symptom of stockholder greed, excessive capitalism, and a gaming community that is willing to accept whatever a company releases as gospel. The Pokémon Company can do better and should do better!

Oh by the way, get your bucks out for Pokémon Home too! Keep milking the cash cow!
