As we announced last year, Toho, the company that distributes the Theatrical Version of Pocket Monster applied to the Guinness World Records for "The movie series with the most number of advance ticket sales in the world".

The last two Pocket Monsters movies have had at least 2 million pre-order ticket sales, mainly due to the fact that viewers get the ability to download a special Pokemon as part of the pre-order ticket sale.

Earlier this week, Guinness awarded the franchise a certificate for "The greatest advance sales for an animated film is 2,384,198 tickets sold for Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior (Japan 2008) at various locations across Japan until 18 July 2008. Koichi Yamadera and Shoko Nakagawa were on hand to receive the award.
