September and October Community Day voting is coming! Will Charmander, Caterpie, Grimer, or Porygon be the winner?

Trainers, Pokémon GO Community Day voting is back! From August 22 to August 23, you’ll be able to vote via Twitter for the Pokémon you’d like featured! The two Pokémon that receive the most votes will go on to be featured during the next two Community Day events, with the Pokémon with the most votes featured in September and the runner-up in October!

Community Day candidates
Your Community Day candidates will be Charmander, Caterpie, Grimer, and Porygon. Here are the exclusive attacks that would be featured for each Pokémon’s Community Day.

  • Charmander: Evolve Charmeleon (the evolved form of Charmander) to get Charizard that know the Dragon-type attack Dragon Breath. Dragon Breath gives Charizard a Fast Attack that dishes out damage quickly, and the attack is super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon.
  • Caterpie: Evolve Metapod (the evolved form of Caterpie) to get Butterfree that know the Flying-type attack Hurricane. Hurricane offers Butterfree a powerful Flying-type Charged Attack to further strengthen its matchups against Fighting-, Grass-, and Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Grimer: Grimer originally discovered in the Kanto region will appear in the wild and hatch from Eggs. Alolan Grimer will appear in Raid Battles. Evolve Grimer or Alolan Grimer to get Muk or Alolan Muk that know the Fire-type attack Fire Punch. Fire Punch would be the first Fire-type attack available for Muk and Alolan Muk, giving them a Charged Attack option that not only charges quickly but also hits Steel-type Pokémon for supereffective damage.
  • Porygon: Evolve Porygon2 (the evolved form of Porygon) to get Porygon-Z that know the Normal-type attack Tri Attack. This attack will be new to Pokémon GO and, when used, will have a chance of decreasing the opposing Pokémon’s Attack and Defense.
Featured bonuses and more Community Day details will be announced at a later date.

How to vote
We’ll post a poll on our official English-language Pokémon GO Twitter on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), and you’ll be able to cast your vote until Sunday, August 23, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7). You’ll have 24 hours to cast one vote for the Pokémon you’d like to see most for either September or October Community Day. The winners will be announced shortly after voting ends. The Pokémon that receives the most votes by the end of the voting period will be the featured Pokémon for September Community Day on Sunday, September 20, 2020. The Pokémon that receives the second-most votes will be featured during October Community Day on Saturday, October 17, 2020.

Make your voices heard, Trainers. It’s time for you to choose which Pokémon you want as the featured Pokémon for the September and October Community Day events. Be sure to campaign for the Pokémon you most want to be chosen, and use #PokemonGOCommunityDay when doing so! Let’s GO!

Niantic has announced that Pokémon GO Fest 2020 has been taken over by Team GO Rocket in certain parts of the world as part of the day two festivities.

Image

Pokémon GO Fest 2020 has been taken over by Team GO Rocket in certain parts of the world!

Trainers, We really thought that Team GO Rocket’s balloon take-over during our fourth-anniversary celebration was going to be their last take-over this year, but alas...they’re back. This time, it seems they’ve set their villainous sights on taking over our biggest event—Pokémon GO Fest! We’d like to thank the Pokémon GO team in the Asia-Pacific region and Trainers from around the world for alerting us to this development.

Between on-the-ground investigations and Trainer reports, we’ve managed to confirm the following information. For all Trainers, regardless of whether you have a Pokémon GO Fest 2020 ticket, keep your eyes peeled for the following during the take-over…
  • You’ll be able to use a Charged TM to let your Pokémon forget the attack Frustration and learn a new attack. We noticed that this seems to be possible only for a limited time during Team GO Rocket’s take-overs. We will be investigating this strange phenomenon further.
  • The confetti from the first day’s festivities will be replaced by Team GO Rocket confetti!
  • Battle the Team GO Rocket Leaders! We’ve received reports that point to them having the following Shadow Pokémon on their teams.
    • Sierra: Beldum, Houndoom, and Zapdos
    • Cliff: Pinsir, Tyranitar, and Articuno
    • Arlo: Mawile, Scizor, and Moltres
  • We also heard that Giovanni will have a new lineup during the take-over and that you'll be able to rescue Shadow Persian after defeating him!

Pokémon GO Fest 2020 ticket holders, Professor Willow is calling on you for help. It takes a certain level of villainy to launch a plan of this scale during our biggest celebration of the year. Let’s put a stop to Team GO Rocket! Open Pokémon GO on Sunday, July 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time to access the following.
  • The GO Fest 2020: Rocket Straight to Victory Special Research will be available. Help Professor Willow and the team leaders defeat Team GO Rocket and take back Pokémon GO Fest 2020! Some of you might recall that the professor mentioned yesterday that he was feeling a great energy that filled him with hope and determination. We’re still wondering where this energy came from and whether it has anything to do with this turn of events...
  • As you complete the GO Fest 2020: Rocket Straight to Victory Special Research, you’ll encounter Pokémon that can help you defeat the Team GO Rocket leaders!
  • More Team GO Rocket balloons will be appearing in the skies, and more Team GO Rocket Grunts will be capturing PokéStops!
  • Earn twice the Stardust and Mysterious Components when you defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts (both at PokéStops and in balloons)
  • The Global Challenge Arena and Virtual Team Lounge have been vandalized by Team GO Rocket!
  • Reports indicate some unwanted guests are appearing in attendees’ snapshots. Be sure to show us what you find with #GOsnapshot!
Please be aware of your surroundings and follow guidelines from local health authorities when playing Pokémon GO. Until we can all meet again in the same park and under the same sky...let’s GO and show Team GO Rocket who’s boss!

Catch Gastly and Get a Gengar That Knows Shadow Punch during Pokémon GO’s July Community Day

Stay on the lookout for the Ghost-type Gastly, and take advantage of awesome bonuses.

The upcoming Pokémon GO Community Day is your big chance to get Gastly. On Sunday, July 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in your local time zone, this Gas Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, and there'll be a better chance those you encounter will be Shiny. Plus, if you evolve a Haunter (the evolved form of Gastly) into Gengar during the event—or up to two hours afterward—that Gengar will know Shadow Punch, an attack it can't normally learn.

Additional bonuses will be in effect, too, such as Incense activated during the event lasting for three hours.
