Updates to events: Thundurus and Cobalion extended, Raid Hour canceled

Trainers, The following events have been canceled, postponed, or changed.

  • Thundurus in five-star raids: This event has been extended until Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7).
  • Cobalion in five-star raids and as GO Battle League rewards: This event has been extended until Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7).
  • Raid Hour (every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. local time): This event has been canceled until further notice.

Gigantamax Charizard, Garbodor, Copperajah, and Duraludon Appear in Max Raid Battles

Journey into the Wild Area to catch these powerful arriving Pokémon.

Get ready for a Gigantamax take-over in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, as Gigantamax versions of Charizard, Garbodor, Copperajah, and Duraludon will appear more frequently in Max Raid Battles until April 27, 2020, at 4:59 p.m. PDT. Head into the Wild Area and begin your search for these elusive Gigantamax Pokémon.

To challenge these Pokémon in a Max Raid Battle, you'll need to connect your Nintendo Switch system to the internet. Then, whenever you see a pillar of light shining from a Pokémon Den in the Wild Area, you can walk up to the Pokémon Den and interact with it to start a Max Raid Battle with a Dynamax Pokémon. While Gigantamax Pokémon are appearing more frequently in Max Raid Battles, you'll sometimes encounter one of them instead of a Dynamax Pokémon. Outside of these special time periods, encountering a Gigantamax Pokémon is extremely rare.

Trainers, Landorus, the Abundance Pokémon, is coming to GO Battle League and five-star raids! This Ground- and Flying-type Legendary Pokémon, originally discovered in the Unova region, will be making its Pokémon GO debut.

Galarian Rapidash, Galarian Darumaka, Mandibuzz, Sirfetch’d, and more version-exclusive Pokémon might appear in Max Raid Battles

Take this opportunity to catch Pokémon that don’t normally appear in the wild in your game version, as well as other Pokémon that may be hard to find.

From Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. PDT until Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at 4:59 p.m. PDT, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield players may encounter some Pokémon that may be hard to find in Max Raid Battles. All players may encounter Dynamax Escavalier, Accelgor, and Pincurchin more frequently in Max Raid Battles. Plus, Pokémon Sword players might encounter Dynamax Galarian Rapidash, Galarian Corsola, Mandibuzz, Oranguru, and female Indeedee. While Pokémon Shield players might encounter Dynamax Galarian Darumaka, Braviary, Passimian, Sirfetch'd, and male Indeedee instead. These Pokémon normally do not appear in these game versions, so it's a great opportunity to work toward completing your Galar Pokédex.

To challenge these Pokémon in a Max Raid Battle, you'll need to connect your Nintendo Switch™ system to the internet. Then, whenever you see a pillar of light shining from a Pokémon Den in the Wild Area, you can walk up to the Pokémon Den and interact with it to start a Max Raid Battle with a Dynamax Pokémon. In extremely rare cases, a Gigantamax Pokémon can appear instead of a Dynamax Pokémon.

From March 27th, 2020 until April 19th, 2020, the Pokémon Collecting Guide (ポケモンあつめようガイド), which is packed with tips for completing the Pokémon Zukan, will be distributed at participating stores in Japan including Geo, TSUTAYA, and Joshin. The guide comes with special Dynamax Crystal (ダイクリスタル) serial codes to allow players of Pocket Monsters Sword and Shield participate in a special Max Raid Battles against Stonjourner and Eiscue. The serial codes can be used until April 30th, 2020.

The April 2020 issue of the Monthly Cococoro Comic, which was released on Saturday, March 14th, 2020 in Japan, comes with a serial code that allows players to receive special Dynamax Crystal (ダイクリスタル) for use in the Nintendo Switch games Pocket Monsters Sword and Shield! By using the Dynamax Crystal from this serial code, players can take on a special Max Raid Battle with Armorga's Gigantamax form. It has the Hidden Ability Mirror Armor which reflects the stat-lowering effects of moves and Abilities back to the user. You can challenge as many times as you want in order to win between March 14th, 2020 and May 14th, 2020 at 23:59 JST.

Trainers, Cobalion and Lugia are returning to Raid Battles in Pokémon GO! We want to make sure Trainers have enough time to challenge these Legendary Pokémon, so both will be available for a longer time in raids. Please note the change in schedule below.

Date + Time
  • Cobalion will be available to challenge in Raid Battles from Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, March 23, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7). You’ll also have a chance to encounter Cobalion as a GO Battle League reward encounter during this time!
  • Lugia will be available to challenge in Raid Battles from Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7). You’ll also have a chance to encounter Lugia as a GO Battle League reward encounter during this time!

This March, enjoy four Legendary Special Raid Weekends—some featuring event-exclusive moves—with an opportunity to encounter Shiny Pokémon.

March is shaping up to be an exciting month in Pokémon GO. A Legendary Special Raid Weekend will run every weekend, with a different Legendary Pokémon appearing in five-star raids each time. During these events, you'll receive an attack boost when you raid with friends. Plus, if you're lucky, the Legendary Pokémon you encounter might be Shiny.

The Legendary Special Raid Weekends take place each weekend in March from Friday at 8:00 a.m. until Monday at 10:00 p.m. in your local time zone. Here's the schedule for the entire month:

Darkrai: Friday, March 6th, 2020 – Monday, March 9th, 2020
Altered Forme Giratina: Friday, March 13th, 2020 – Monday, March 16th, 2020
Cobalion: Friday, March 20th, 2020 – Monday, March 23rd, 2020
Lugia: Friday, March 27th, 2020 — Monday, March 30th, 2020

There are also a couple of extra twists to this month of Legendary Special Raid Weekends. Cobalion encountered will know the event-exclusive attack Sacred Sword, and Lugia will know the event-exclusive attack Aeroblast!

The official Pokémon website has announced that a Milcery with Rare Sweets will appear in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Max Raid Battles from January 30th, 2020 until February 16th, 2020.

A Milcery with Rare Sweets in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Max Raid Battles

This Milcery can Gigantamax after it evolves, and it might reward you with Star Sweets and Ribbon Sweets.

Milcery, the adorable Cream Pokémon, will be featured in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Max Raid Battles. From January 30, 2020, to February 16, 2020, special Milcery may appear in Pokémon Dens throughout the Wild Area. These Milcery will be able to Gigantamax after evolving into Alcremie.

Also, when you win a Max Raid Battle against a Milcery during this time, you may receive various Sweets as a reward. These include Star Sweets and Ribbon Sweets, both of which couldn't be obtained before. Have Milcery hold different kinds of Sweets and evolve them into the many forms of Alcremie.
