Darkrai.com Launches

Darkrai.com launched Saturday evening unveiling news about Darkrai for the TCG, the anime and the video game. As a subsidiary of Pokemon.com, Darkrai.com is an all flash website designed to focus only on this newly revealed Pokemon.

Screenshots, a teaser trailer and the logo 'The Rise of Darkrai' are all available to view on the site. Move information and a few Diamond and Pearl in-game screenshots of Darkrai were also posted. The TCG card for Darkrai was posted earlier in the week on Go-Pokemon.com but information on it is also available on Darkrai.com now.

The site isn't without its problems. Like Pokemon.com, the site is completely done in Flash. The site takes a minute or so to download, requires people to have Flash installed on their computer, and it renders slow on many older machines. The site even has 'content' that shouldn't have been posted. In the Video Game section of the site, a sentence which looks like it was from a private email to the webmaster was posted and it even has a typo. It reads, "Whne its done, go ahead and make it live." Obviously the sites launch was rushed.

You can visit the offical Darkrai.com site by clicking here.

Pokemon USA, Inc. today announced the latest Pokemon Trading Card Game expansion, Diamond & Pearl - Great Encounters, will be released on February 13th. The expansion features more than 100 cards, including more brand-new Pokemon cards for players to collect and three legendary Pokemon with powerful new attacks.

Latest Card Release Reveals Powerful Diamond & Pearl Pokemon to Seek, Find, and Catch

In Great Encounters, many incredible Pokemon come together to battle in an epic confrontation that will be a triumph for Trainers everywhere. Who will stand victorious? Dialga? Palkia? Or is it Darkrai, a new Legendary Pokemon who rises up from the darkness? With more brand-new Pokemon cards, more Pokemon LV. X, and a titanic clash of some of the most powerful Pokemon ever, Great Encounters is every player’s chance to encounter greatness.

The Pokemon TCG: Diamond & Pearl - Great Encounters expansion will be available in three 60-card theme decks - Eternal Time, Endless Night, and Infinite Space - as well as in booster packs. Theme decks, priced at $11.99, include a unique coin, an updated rulebook, card list, one-player playmat, and damage counters. Each booster pack, priced at $3.79, features 10 randomly inserted game cards.

Meet Darkrai (Great Encounters, 4/106), a pitch-black Pokemon known to lull people to sleep and make them dream during nights of the new moon. Making its grand debut in Diamond & Pearl - Great Encounters, Darkrai is a Darkness-type Basic Pokemon with great attacks and high HP. Its powerful Sleep Hole attack delivers 40 damage to the Defending Pokemon, plus 40 more damage if the Defending Pokemon is Asleep. If the Defending Pokemon is not Asleep, the attack causes it to be Asleep. Either way, your opponent won't be pleased with the outcome. Darkrai's entry into the Pokemon universe will definitely shake things up with a surplus of shadowy new strategies to explore.

The official Pokemon Center website which serves the United States announced this week that it would be closing permanently on January 31st 2008. There was only one actual Pokemon Center in the USA and it was located at Rockefeller Center in New York City. This store closed down in February 2005 and was replaced by the Nintendo World store. The Nintendo World Store opened in the same location and continues to sell Pokemon merchandise.

The closing of the Official Pokemon Center Online store was a huge surprise for many American Pokemon fans as it was one of the only places to get official merchandise. To many Pokemon fans outside of the USA, the closing isn't much of a surprise considering the site would only ship to American customers. Many people have speculated that the policy of shipping only to the USA was it's downfall.

Pokemon USA has announced that they will now focus on selling Pokemon merchandise through 'major retailers'. Target, WalMart, and Toysrus are currently selling Pokemon merchandise, but it is unknown if they will expand their selection.

Below is an excerpt from the Pokemon Center FAQ:

Q: Why is PokemonCenter.com closing?
A: PokemonUSA, Inc. has decided to sell Pokemon merchandise exclusively through its retail partners.

Q: Where can I purchase Pokemon merchandise?
A: Pokemon merchandise can still be purchased online or at stores of major retailers.

Q: How much longer can I place orders?
A: Orders can be placed through January 31st, 2008 at 11:59PM EST. They will be shipped and processed following our standard shipping policies. If any item ordered is unavailable we will cancel that item from your order and credit your card.

Q: Can I still return an item that I purchased?
A: Product that meets our usual return standards can be returned if postmarked by February 21st, 2008. This includes all orders placed from now through January 31st. Please see our Returns Policy for further information.

Q: What happens to my store credit?
A: In some instances, you may have received a store credit as a courtesy. You may still use any open store credit through January 31st.

Q: What if I have a question regarding my order?
A: Please see Contact Us for details.
