The Safari Zone Montreal 2019 took place from September 20th, 2019 until September 22nd, 2019. Niantic has written a post event synopsis on the activities and overall statistics.

Image

Thank you for a wonderful Safari Zone Montreal, the first-ever Pokémon GO event in Canada!

Trainers, Thank you for joining us in beautiful Montreal, Quebec, Canada, for our very first Safari Zone in Canada—and North America as a whole! The three-day event was well attended by Trainers from around the globe. Over 39,000 Trainers from all over the world visited Parc Jean-Drapeau, walking 166,000 km and catching over 7 million Pokémon.

Image Image

A speedy Pokémon wonderland

Some exciting speedy Pokémon zipped their way to Parc Jean-Drapeau, such as Ponyta, Yanma, and Zigzagoon. Unown that spelled Q-U-E-B-E-C were also encounterable in the park. In celebration of Canada’s first-ever Safari Zone taking place in Montreal, Roselia, the Thorn Pokémon, was featured at the event as a nod to the Montreal coat of arms, which includes a rose insignia. Trainers in attendance also had an incredible opportunity to encounter and catch Tropius, a Pokémon that is normally only available in Africa, southern Spain, and Crete.

Attendees weren’t the only ones who got to enjoy the Safari Zone! Some Pokémon, such as Yanma, appeared much more frequently across Canada over the weekend in excitement for this event. There was even a chance Trainers could encounter Shiny Yanma!

Relaxing at a real-life beach zone

With the summer winding down, attendees enjoyed crisp early-autumn weather, experienced local cuisine with our numerous food-truck offerings, traded with other Trainers in the hopes of getting an elusive Lucky Pokémon, and relaxed on the beach. Group photos were later taken at the beach and the Biosphere, resulting in a truly breathtaking experience from beginning to end!

Thank you for a wonderful event. We are so excited for all the adventures to come! Until then, let’s GO!

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo announced a new Pokémon called Sirfetch’d which will appear in Pokémon Sword. The Pokémon had been teased about on the official site starting on September 12th, 2019 with a glitchy profile. It was then revealed that the glitchy promotion was due to a wild Rotom that entered the servers and was then corrected on September 18, 2019 when Sirfetch’d was officially revealed. High quality screenshots and artwork from the press release have been added to an Imageboard thread.

An Important Message Regarding Website Glitches

Attention, Trainers, We would like to apologize for a series of glitches that affected the appearance of images and text on our page that was meant to announce a new Pokémon that has been discovered to appear in the Galar region. As of Wednesday, September 18, 2019, the error has been corrected.

We have learned that the incident was caused by a mischievous wild Rotom that entered our servers, causing a temporary disruption to our website. Fortunately, our IT team members—skilled Pokémon Trainers in their own right—were able to convince the Rotom to leave our system and return to where it normally resides.

With that issue cleared up, we are now free to finally present detailed information about the newly discovered Pokémon found to appear in Pokémon Sword. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

NEW POKÉMON DISCOVERED IN THE GALAR REGION

New Pokémon Sirfetch’d Will Appear in Pokémon Sword

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo announced today that a new Pokémon has been discovered in the Galar region: Sirfetch’d, the Wild Duck Pokémon. Sirfetch’d will appear in the highly anticipated upcoming video game, Pokémon Sword. Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield launch November 15, 2019, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch™ system.

sirfetchd

Sirfetch’d
Category: Wild Duck Pokémon
Type: Fighting
Height: 2’7”
Weight: 257.9 lbs.
Ability: Steadfast

The Farfetch’d of the Galar region can evolve into Sirfetch’d after experiencing many battles. They are calm and collected, and they make a point of always battling fairly. They are so noble in battle that they are often chosen as a motif for paintings. Of particular note is a painting—famous in the Galar region—that depicts a duel between a Sirfetch’d and an Escavalier.

In battle, Sirfetch’d uses the sharp stalk of its leek as a lance and the thick leaves as a shield. It maintains this leek over the span of many years and treasures it more than anything. When its leek finally withers, Sirfetch’d will leave the battlefield and retire from battling entirely.

Meteor Assault is a new move introduced in these games that only Sirfetch’d can learn! Sirfetch’d points its leek at the opponent and charges toward them at great speed. This move is devastatingly powerful! However, it appears that the move also puts great strain on Sirfetch’d. It will be unable to take action immediately after using this move.

The Pokémon Company International today announced it has entered a three-year partnership with The Football Association (The FA) to support The FA’s National Futsal Strategy. High resolutions pictures from the press release have been added to an Imageboard thread.

The Pokémon Company International partners with The Football Association to increase participation in The FA’s National Futsal Strategy

The partnership begins immediately with Pokémon and The FA aiming to make Futsal a natural part of children’s football development. The focus in year one of the partnership will be on increasing participation of school and club teams from across England in The FA’s National Youth Futsal programme.

pic

Throughout the partnership, The FA and Pokémon will use their shared values of evolution and progression through training to help appeal to children—raising Futsal’s profile, creating a clear identity for the game and developing a twin tracking pathway that will mean boys and girls can play Futsal as a part of their overall experience of the game.

Dan Kiddle, The FA’s Head of Commercial Partnerships, commented: “We are delighted to welcome the Pokémon Company International as a partner of The FA to support our National Futsal strategy and help grow participation in England. Pokémon is an instantly recognisable brand across the world and we are excited to work together to encourage young players, of all abilities, to play the game of Futsal.”

The FA views Futsal as integral to the progression of football standards across the country, with the current England men’s national team featuring a number of players who were brought up playing Futsal.

pic pic

Because Futsal places emphasis on the technical ability, decision making and reaction time of players, it can result in more technically confident players, who can make good decisions under pressure.

The Pokémon Company International and The FA will work closely together to create and deliver an exciting range of initiatives at participating schools and clubs, culminating in The FA’s National Youth Futsal Festival in May 2020, as well as supporting the England men’s national Futsal team.

Michael Skubala, head coach of the England Futsal team, added: “It’s great to have such an iconic brand as Pokémon to sit alongside Futsal development in England. We will work hard together to engage with young players so that they can experience Futsal as part of their football development. It’s an exciting, fast-paced, technical game and I know they will love it.”
