Press Release - POKÉMON CONTINUES TO EVOLVE WITH NEW INITIATIVES COMING SOON

The Pokémon Company Unveils New Mobile Apps, Innovative Hardware, and More

TOKYO—May 28, 2019—During a press conference in Tokyo today, Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, presented a glimpse into how the globally popular Pokémon brand will continue to be a trendsetter in gaming. Mr. Ishihara unveiled a broad range of offerings including mobile games, apps, and innovative connected hardware to show the variety of new ways Pokémon Trainers will be able to experience and enhance their Pokémon gameplay.

Pokémon HOME
The world of Pokémon games is more diverse than ever, with a range of titles for Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. Now, Trainers can bring all their Pokémon together with Pokémon HOME, a new cloud service app that enables them to continue their Pokémon adventures beyond a single game system and manage their collection of Pokémon across many of their games. Pokémon HOME is expected to launch in early 2020 for iOS and Android devices as well as Nintendo Switch.

Pokémon Sleep
Soon, Trainers will be able to wake up with Pokémon every morning with Pokémon Sleep, a mobile app from The Pokémon Company. Pokémon Sleep aims to turn sleeping into entertainment by having a player's time spent sleeping, and the time they wake up, effect the gameplay. While more details about the app’s functionality will be revealed at a later date, it was announced that a new device from Nintendo, Pokémon GO Plus +, will connect to Pokémon Sleep and launch with the app. The device will use an embedded accelerometer to track a user’s time sleeping and send this information to their smartphone via Bluetooth. This new device also has the same functions as the original Pokémon GO Plus, so Trainers can use it with Pokémon GO during the day and with Pokémon Sleep at night. Trainers can look forward to Pokémon Sleep launching for mobile devices in 2020. To celebrate this early look at Pokémon Sleep, Trainers around the world will have the chance to encounter Snorlax that are lying down and deep in sleep in Pokémon GO beginning today.

Pokémon Comes to China with Pokémon Quest
Earlier in May, it was announced that the popular mobile game, Pokémon Quest, will be coming to China via NetEase, the second largest game developer in the world and a new partner for The Pokémon Company. Since then, more than 1.7 million players have pre-registered for the game in the country. Today it was revealed that Pokémon Quest in China will be an enhanced version of the game with new player vs. player and social features. While Pokémon Quest marks the first mobile Pokémon game in China, it was also announced that NetEase is working with The Pokémon Company to bring more Pokémon games to the country.

Harness the power of special new lures, and meet more Pokémon!

Trainers, We’re excited to announce that more Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region are coming to Pokémon GO! From seas and beaches to mountains and beyond, be on the lookout for Cherubi, Gible, Hippopotas, and others. We hope you’ll enjoy the fun and surprises as you encounter these Pokémon in the wild and hatch them from Eggs. Also arriving in Pokémon GO is a powerful Ground-type move—Earth Power! Plus, we have more exciting news to share. Thanks to your dedication in helping Professor Willow with his research, he has made some amazing improvements to our favorite module—the Lure Module. Inspired by research collected from around the world, three upgraded Lure Modules have been developed. These modules attract Pokémon in the surrounding area while creating a temporary special habitat. Soon you’ll be able to harness the power of Glacial Lure Modules, Mossy Lure Modules, and Magnetic Lure Modules. These lures might even have the potential to cause Evolution in certain Pokémon! More details on these exciting additions:

  • Additional Sinnoh Pokémon are now available to catch in the wild and hatch from Eggs.
  • Earth Power is a powerful Ground-type Charged Attack that could lower your opponent’s defense in Trainer Battles.
    • Certain Pokémon recently arrived from the Sinnoh region will know Earth Power.
    • Other Pokémon that could know Earth Power include Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Aerodactyl, Camerupt, and Claydol.
  • Glacial Lure Modules, Mossy Lure Modules, and Magnetic Lure Modules can be obtained in the in-game shop and will be available later this season as rewards for completing new Special Research tasks.
  • These Lure Modules attract local Pokémon as well as bonus Pokémon based on the type of lure.
    • Glacial Lure Modules attract certain Pokémon that love the cold, such as Water- and Ice-Type Pokémon.
    • Mossy Lure Modules attract certain Pokémon that love to frolic among the leaves, such as Bug-, Grass-, and Poison-Type Pokémon.
    • Magnetic Lure Modules attract certain Pokémon that are drawn to electromagnetic forces, such as some Electric-, Steel-, and Rock-type Pokémon.
  • When Trainers are within range of a PokéStop with an active lure of the appropriate type, and they can successfully spin its Photo Disc, Evolution of Magneton and Nosepass will be enabled, as well as certain Evolutions of Eevee.
    • You can choose whether or not to proceed with these special Evolutions on the Pokémon’s detail screen.
What other surprises will you discover? The only way to find out is to get out and GO!

POKÉMON RUMBLE RUSH ANNOUNCED FOR SMARTPHONES

Latest Title in Rumble Series Coming to Android and iOS Devices

In Pokémon Rumble Rush players assume the role of an intrepid adventurer tasked with discovering new islands and the various Pokémon that inhabit each area. As they explore each island players must overcome the hordes of enemy Pokémon that stand in their way. By tapping the screen, the players’ partner Pokémon will rush in and attack each oncoming wave. During each of these encounters there is a chance one or more of the Pokémon will befriend a player and in turn use those Pokémon in future battles. Each island adventure features Super Boss fights and, if victorious, players have the chance to get items that power up their Pokémon.

As they play Pokémon Rumble Rush, players will have the chance to encounter hundreds of different species of Pokémon. The more players explore the game world and take part in special events, the more Pokémon they will discover—possibly including Legendary and Mythical Pokémon! Exploration may also lead to players finding a previously undiscovered stage, and as a reward, players get to name it.

When exploring an area on their own, a hint function can display the Pokémon that inhabit that area. Also, when players view a map of an island, occasionally they'll see some hot air balloons passing by. Tapping a hot air balloon will let players try a stage that other adventurers have already discovered, which means players may encounter Pokémon that they haven't found before.
