The Pokémon Company International announced today that is will be adding Wi-Fi tournaments beginning with the 2012 VGCS Winter Battle, taking place December 13th through December 17th. Below are the full details.
BELLEVUE, WASH.-December 5, 2012-The Pokémon Company International announced today it is adding Global Battle Union (GBU) Wi-Fi tournaments to its North American 2013 Video Game Championship Series season, making it easier than ever for video game players to step down the road to the Pokémon World Championships. Beginning with the 2012 VGCS Winter Battle, taking place December 13th through December 17th, top finishers of the Wi-Fi tournament will earn byes at live tournaments, including January's Pokémon Winter Regional Championships. Top participants will also receive Championship Points, bringing them one step closer to potentially earning invitations to the 2013 Pokémon World Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The 2012 VGCS Winter Battle is the first time results from a GBU Wi-Fi Competition will count in a North American Pokémon Video Game Championships Series season, adding to an already exciting year that kicked off with the Autumn Regional Championships this October. Players can register for the event between Wednesday, December 5th at 4:00 p.m. PST and Thursday, December 13th at 3:59 p.m. PST at pokemon.com/pgl with gameplay beginning December 13th at 4:00 p.m. PST. Adding to the fun, players who maintain a low disconnect rate in the 2012 VGCS Winter Battle will be awarded a Custap Berry. The powerful Custap Berry gives the Pokémon holding it a better chance to strike first the turn after its HP gets low.

Peta Believes Pokémon are Abused
In response to the release of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 over the weekend in North America, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) released a game and statement condemning the Pokémon franchise.

The amount of time that Pokémon spend stuffed in pokéballs is akin to how elephants are chained up in train carts, waiting to be let out to "perform" in circuses. But the difference between real life and this fictional world full of organized animal fighting is that Pokémon games paint rosy pictures of things that are actually horrible. If PETA existed in Unova, our motto would be: Pokémon are not ours to use or abuse. They exist for their own reasons. We believe that this is the message that should be sent to children."

Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 introduce a new Medal System that rewards players for reaching certain in-game milestones, such as taking a certain number of steps, hatching Egg and using C-Gear to connect with friends. There are more than 250 unique medals to collect, giving players more goals to achieve even after they have completed the game's main storyline. Players who have completed the main game can also enjoy additional content through the Key System, which unlocks additional Unova Challenge areas for players to take on, and offers detailed customization options for advanced players. For example, players who have gained access to the Key System can adjust the difficulty of the Pokémon belonging to Trainers they encounter in the field, making them stronger or weaker.
As players work to uncover the mystery behind Black Kyurem and White Kyurem, they'll encounter new areas. Join Avenue is a new location that works like a virtual shopping mall where players can browse and buy a wide selection of in-game items – from plants and berries to fossils that can be turned into living Pokémon. When players connect wirelessly with others, they're rewarded with more shops on Join Avenue and more choices for enhancing their Pokémon's abilities.
Other new features in Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 include the new Pokémon World Tournament mode, which lets players battle Gym Leaders from regions in previous Pokémon video games. There's also Pokéstar Studios, a movie "studio" near Virbank where players can use a variety of scripts to make their own customized Pokémon movies and release them to an audience. Players who experienced Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version can use the Memory Link feature to sync their save files from those games and view an expanded storyline showing events that took place in Unova during the past two years.
Players with a Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL system also can connect to the Internet and purchase Pokémon Dream Radar from the Nintendo eShop. Also launching on Oct. 7 at a price of $2.99, Pokémon Dream Radar lets players use the built-in Nintendo 3DS camera and motion controls to catch Pokémon, which can then be transferred into Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2. The Pokédex 3D Pro application launches in the Nintendo eShop on Nov. 8 at a price of $14.99, allowing players to see more than 640 Pokémon in full 3D and offering information that Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 players will find especially useful.
The original Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version launched across North America in March 2011, selling more than 1 million copies on their first day of availability and launching a new generation of Pokémon. 2012 Pokémon TCG and Video Game World Champions / 2013 World Championships in Vancouver, Canada
The 2012 Pokémon TCG and Video Game World Champions concluded on August 12th, 2012 and all the world champions for the year were crowned. It was announced at the end of the event that the 2013 Pokémon TCG and Video Game World Champions would take place in Vancouver, Canada, making it the first time that the event will be held outside of the United States. A special Flying Pikachu was also distributed at the World Championships and full details for that Pokémon have been added to our Event Database.

Dragon Type Is the First New Pokémon Type Introduced in Over a Decade - Control the might of dragons in a way that can change your game forever when the brand-new Dragon-type Pokémon make their debut in Pokémon TCG: Black & White-Dragons Exalted! The new Dragon-type, the first new Pokémon type introduced to Pokémon TCG in over a decade, features a fierce lineup of more than 15 Dragon-type Pokémon, including Rayquaza-EX, Giratina-EX, Garchomp, and Hydreigon. With a mix of new Pokémon-EX and a powerful group of Dragon-type Pokémon, Trainers will be ready for the roar of dragons and the glory of battle!Dragon-type Pokémon reflect the unique power of Dragon Pokémon and come equipped with multi-type Energy attacks. Joining Dragon-type Pokémon in the Black & White - Dragons Exalted expansion, which features more than 120 cards, are two versions of six different Pokémon-EX and a host of Pokémon from outside the Unova region like Mew, Ninetales, and Honchkrow. Four new Trainer cards and two Special Energy cards round out this incredibly powerful expansion.

Each new Pokémon TCG: Black & White-Dragons Exalted theme deck and booster pack includes an in-pack code card that unlocks virtual cards for play in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. Players of Pokémon Black and White can get the Legendary Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom from the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection from March 10th, 2012 until April 8th, 2012. Players that have Pokémon Black can receive Zekrom while players of Pokémon White can receive Reshiram.
Players can then used their newly downloaded Legendary Pokémon to unlock a special C-Gear skin that matches Reshiram or Zekrom respectively on the Pokémon Global Link's Pokémon Movie Home expansion.
These Legendary Pokémon are Level 100, and have moves that make them extremely powerful in battle. Plus, you'll know they are special Pokémon because they come in a Cherish Ball and are adorned with a Wish Ribbon.
The opportunity to get these Legendary Pokémon won't be around long, so don't miss your chance to get Reshiram or Zekrom for your game!
After you get Reshiram or Zekrom, be sure to visit the Pokémon Global Link, where even more cool things await! When you tuck in one of these two special Pokémon, you'll be able to visit a new area in the Pokémon Dream World, as well as get a special C-Gear skin matching the Pokémon you tucked in!

Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 coming to North America and Europe in the fall of 2012
Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe both published press releases today indicating their plans for the release of the new games Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 which were announced on Pokémon Smash #73 by Junichi Masuda. The games will be released in North America and Europe in the fall of 2012.
Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 will be available for the Nintendo DS family of systems. The games can also be played in 2D on Nintendo 3DS systems. More game details will be announced throughout the year.

JAKKS Pacific is once again an exhibitor at the American International Toy Fair for 2012 and they will be releasing new Pokémon toys during 2012. The Toy Fair 2012 takes place from February 12th, 2012 until February 15th, 2012 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Below is the press release listing some of the new Pokémon related toys that will be released by JAKKS Pacific in 2012. Throughout 2012, JAKKS will launch new figures and plush with all new Pokémon characters featured in the popular Black and White TV series, movies, video games and trading cards. This will be incorporated into many of the best selling toy lines including 3” Figures, Attack Figures, Mini Plush, Reversible Plush, Throw Poké Balls and the Pop ‘n Battle Launchers and Pokémon Catchers from the popular skill and action line launched last year.
Now, you can also train and battle your Pokémon in the Unova Region forest with the new Forest Battle Playset, available this Spring. The playset features a special motorized target base that works with all 3” figures. When the base is successfully hit with an attack disk, the Pokémon figure pops off in battle. Includes an attack figure and shooting base, 4 attack discs, target base and an additional 3” figure. The playset connects to the City Battle Playset for double the size and battling fun! Fans of all ages will be able to accessorize and style their backpack, wardrobe, purses and other items with the new Pokémon On The Go Plush Clip-Ons!
