The Pokémon Company International and the September 2013 issue of Corocoro have revealed a new feature called Mega Evolutions. New Pokémon were also revealed.

Mega Evolution Will Transform Pokémon and Revolutionise Battles in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y

A Special Limited-Time Wi-Fi Distribution Event to Celebrate Mega Evolution Begins Worldwide on October 12th, 2013
August 9, 2013 — In what could be described as an Evolution beyond all Evolutions, Mega Evolution is a new, awe-inspiring transformation certain Pokémon can undergo during battle in the highly anticipated Pokémon X and Pokémon Y video games. Pokémon that Mega Evolve will tap into hidden reserves of strength and power that have never been realised in their regular Evolutions, giving players battling with a Mega-Evolved Pokémon a dominant advantage. Mega Evolutions will revolutionise Pokémon battles and usher in a new Pokémon transformation never-before-seen in the Pokémon world.

Pokémon like Mega Mewtwo and Mega Lucario will harness the power of Mega Evolution in battle and will see their looks change and stats increase, giving Trainers a great advantage against their opponents. Some Pokémon that Mega Evolve may even change their Ability or type while in battle. Only certain Pokémon, under certain conditions, can Mega Evolve, and unlike regular Evolution, Mega Evolution only occurs during battle—once the battle ends, the Mega-Evolved Pokémon will return to its usual state. One crucial element to undergoing Mega Evolution is a particular kind of item called a Mega Stone. Mega Stones are special stones that exist for all Pokémon that can Mega Evolve, each named after the Pokémon to which it grants power. For instance, the Lucarionite Mega Stone will help Lucario Mega Evolve. Mega Stones are hidden throughout the Kalos region, and players must find them to unlock the incredible power of Mega Evolution.

One Mega Stone, Blazikenite, will not be found during normal gameplay in Pokémon X or Pokémon Y. Players of the new titles will need to participate in a special limited-time Wi-Fi distribution event via Nintendo Network to get a Torchic holding a Blazikenite Mega Stone. This is how players can receive the Blazikenite Mega Stone when the new titles launch. The character distribution begins October 12th, the same day Pokémon X and Pokémon Y launches worldwide for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, and this distribution event will only last for a short period of time. Players will need to evolve the Torchic they receive via the distribution into Combusken and finally into Blaziken in order to harness the power of this Mega Stone and Mega Evolve Blaziken into Mega Blaziken.

The Torchic received in this distribution also has the Hidden Ability Speed Boost, a very powerful Ability that increases a Pokémon’s Speed at the end of every turn. This limited-time character distribution event allows players to get a Torchic with Speed Boost, which becomes incredibly effective once they Mega Evolve Blaziken into Mega Blaziken.

Brand-New Method of Pokémon Training: Super Training!

Super Training or S.T. is being introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, allowing players to help their Pokémon grow stronger when they’re not in battle. On the Touch Screen of the Nintendo 3DS system, players can have their Pokémon participate in Super Training, activities that will increase a Pokémon’s base stats, the underlying values that define its HP, Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed stats.

One Super Training activity involves having Pokémon train by facing huge Pokémon-shaped Balloon Bots in a virtual space, with both sides trying to shoot balls into the opponent’s goal. Using the Circle Pad and Touch Screen to avoid shots from the Balloon Bots while landing their own in the goal, players will enjoy this action-packed feature while increasing their Pokémon’s base stats to help them become stronger for battle.

For a more casual way to help Pokémon strengthen their base stats, Core Training lets players set up training bags, earned by completing Super-Training Regimens, for Pokémon in their party to use. Pokémon will work on Core Training by themselves, raising their stats on their own. By tapping on the Touch Screen during a Core Training session, players can help their Pokémon increase their base stats, too. Players will be able to see how their Pokémon are doing at their Core Training at any time from the main Super Training screen.

More never-before-seen Pokémon that players will encounter in the Kalos region have been announced this morning by The Pokémon Company International.

By emitting radio waves from its antenna-shaped whiskers, new Electric- and Fairy-type Pokémon Dedenne can communicate with far-off allies. It can also plug its tail into outlets to drain electricity from them. Its Ability, Cheek Pouch, is new to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. If a Pokémon with this Ability eats a Berry during battle, it will not only reap the benefit from the Berry, but the Pokémon will also be able to regain HP. Dedenne can learn the new Electric-type move Nuzzle, which looks cute as the user nuzzles up to a target with its cheeks fully charged, but it’s quite dangerous! Nuzzle will do damage while paralyzing the opponent.

Bunnelby is a new Normal-type Pokémon that creates its den by digging in the ground with its large, shovel-shaped ears. These powerful ears are strong enough to chop right through thick tree roots, making them a force to be reckoned with in battle. Bunnelby can learn the Ground-type move Dig. On the first turn, the user burrows underground, and on the second turn, it attacks! In Double Battles, a Pokémon can use Dig to avoid its ally’s attack and then dish out damage on the next turn.

It is now known that Skiddo evolves into the already announced Gogoat. A Grass-type Pokémon, Skiddo has a gentle nature and is said to be the first Pokémon to live alongside humans. Because of this relationship, Skiddo doesn’t mind carrying people or supplies on its back, and it has become able to read the feelings of its riders through their grip on its horns. Skiddo can learn the Grass-type move Leaf Blade, where the user wields a sharp leaf to slice like a sword.

Introducing Gym Leader Korrina

Korrina is the Gym Leader in Shalour City, a seaside town known for its amazing views. It’s also home to the Tower of Mastery, which seems to have a connection to Mega Evolution. Gym Leader Korrina seeks to draw out her Pokémon’s strength to reach still greater heights, and it’s said that she may hold the key to Mega Evolution! In addition to being a Gym Leader, Korrina is a fantastic roller skater.

The Pokémon Company International revealed new details about Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal today, including their types. Fairy-type Pokémon Xerneas will know Geomancy, a new move exclusive to Xerneas. Yveltal, a Dark- and Flying-type Pokémon, is the only Pokémon that knows the new move Oblivion Wing. Press Release - Details of New Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal Revealed!

  • Xerneas is a Fairy-type—a brand-new type being introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Watch the awe-inspiring beauty of Xerneas' exclusive move, Geomancy, which features rainbow-colored light that erupts from the earth around it. Xerneas has the special Ability Fairy Aura, which naturally takes effect in battle, strengthening Fairy-type moves for all Pokémon in battle. Be careful, because Fairy Aura also has a positive effect on opposing Pokémon that know Fairy-type moves.
  • Dark- and Flying-type Yveltal is the only Pokémon that can learn the move Oblivion Wing, which sends Yveltal flying high into the sky to release a powerful beam of red light that scorches the ground below. The Destruction Pokémon's special Ability, Dark Aura, is a counterpoint to Fairy Aura, raising the strength of Dark-type moves for all Pokémon in battle. This Ability is powerfully effective in Double and Triple Battles when facing multiple opponents simultaneously. So, when Yveltal is in battle, it's smart for players to fill their team with Pokémon that can use Dark-type moves.

More never-before-seen Pokémon that players will encounter in the Kalos region, including some that are unique to either Pokémon X or Pokémon Y, have been announced this morning.

  • It is now known that Fighting- and Dark-type Pangoro evolves from spunky little Pancham. This evolved Pokémon has a violent temperament, but it also believes in fairness and does not forgive those who pick on the weak. The leaf Pangoro carries in its mouth can predict its opponent's moves. By waving its strong, heavy arms, Pangoro uses the Fighting-type move Hammer Arm to inflict great damage on opponents. It does lower the user's Speed, but Hammer Arm's power is tremendous.
  • Players will encounter Inkay in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. This Dark- and Psychic-type Pokémon has the ability to drain other Pokémon's will to fight by flashing the transmitters above its eyes—giving Inkay the opportunity either to attack its foes or to hide from them. It's said that the flashing emitted from Inkay's transmitters can also be used to communicate with its friends. Inkay can learn a new Dark-type move, Topsy-Turvy, a tricky move that will reverse all of the stat changes that are affecting a target. For instance, if opponents increase their Attack and Defense stats during battle, it will suddenly come back to bite them when Topsy-Turvy is used.
  • The Dark- and Psychic-type Pokémon Malamar is the evolved form of Inkay and may have the strongest hypnotic force of any known Pokémon, helping it to bend opponents to its will. As a result, humans with ill intentions try to use Malamar to aid in their devious plots. Malamar can learn the Psychic-type move Hypnosis, which leaves opponents asleep and for the most part unable to take any actions during battle.
  • The Fairy-type Pokémon Swirlix, which can only be captured in Pokémon X, comes with the new Ability Sweet Veil that keeps Pokémon on the same team from being left asleep in battle. Use Swirlix when facing Double and Triple Battles featuring Pokémon that know moves like Hypnosis. Swirlix can learn the new Fairy-type move Draining Kiss, which does damage to a target while also restoring some HP to the user. Battles will be much easier when you can attack an opponent with Draining Kiss and restore your Pokémon's health at the same time. Swirlix only eats sweets, causing its body to be sweet and sticky, like cotton candy.
  • Only available for capture in Pokémon Y, the new Fairy-type Pokémon Spritzee emits a unique fragrance that causes anyone who smells it to fall under its spell. Spritzee can learn the Grass-type move Aromatherapy, which causes a Pokémon to exude a relaxing fragrance that heals its allies' status conditions, such as sleep and poison.
  • It is now known that the previously announced Water-type Pokémon Clauncher can only be captured in Pokémon X, and the Poison- and Water-type Pokémon Skrelp can only be captured in Pokémon Y.

Introducing More People You'll Meet on Your Adventure through the Kalos Region

Professor Augustine Sycamore will entrust you and your friends with Pokémon and send everyone out on a Pokédex-filling adventure throughout the Kalos region. Along the way, players will encounter a mysterious organization called Team Flare. This strange and fashionable group shows up in cities around the Kalos region—what could their motive be?

Two new Gym Leaders have been introduced today, joining the Santalune City Gym Leader, Viola. Grant is a Gym Leader who excels at bike racing, mountain climbing, and many other sports. When they meet Grant, players will be facing a Trainer with a strong heart. Clemont, accompanied by his sister, Bonnie, is a young Gym Leader who loves science. Clemont gets extremely excited by the many devices he invents.

Also introduced is a new game feature called O-Powers that allows players the ability to easily power up Pokémon in their party and provides other benefits in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. O-Powers are special powers that come in various forms and can be shared between players via the new Player Search System, or PSS. Sharing O-Powers with someone you've connected with locally or through the Internet is accomplished by tapping a player on the Touch Screen. Some O-Powers will temporarily increase a Pokémon's stats, while others make it easier to catch wild Pokémon or increase the Experience Points gained in battle.

For players of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y who want to add a little thrill to their Pokémon trades, Wonder Trade allows players to instantly trade a Pokémon for one offered by someone else in the world. The catch? Players will make the trade without knowing which Pokémon they'll get in return. You might receive an unexpected rare Pokémon or one that will add strength to your Pokémon party!

picNintendo has posted a press release indicating that cell phone apps like PokéCreator are becoming more prevalent and players of the Pokémon games should not use them. Nintendo also made it very clear that players who are caught using hacked Pokémon in official tournaments will be disqualified and banned from participation in future tournaments. It's unclear why Nintendo has finally decided to make a statement regarding save hacking as PokeSav and fake GTS servers have been around for years. The Pokémon Japanese VGC 2013 tournament was last week though and may have been the reason for the press release.

Two new Pokémon were also revealed: Vivillon (ビビヨン Vivillon in Japanese) and Noivern (オンバーン Onvern in Japanese). The Bug and Flying-type Pokémon Vivillon uses its wings to scatter its scales or create a strong wind to attack. Vivillon is said to have a secret hidden in the colorful decorative pattern on its wings.

Noivern is extremely combative toward anything that wanders too close to it. It flies through even the darkest nights using ultrasonic waves it emits from its ears. This Pokémon loves fruit, and feeding it fruit will keep it calm. Noivern can use the move Boomburst (ばくおんぱ in Japanese).

Fairy Type Matchups

How Fairy-type Pokémon and moves will fit into the battle landscape has yet to be fully revealed. But it is known that Fairy-type moves are super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon! Until Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, Dragon-type Pokémon had only two weaknesses: Ice-type moves and Dragon-type moves. The new Fairy type changes the balance in a big way!

Press Release

BELLEVUE, WA—June 11, 2013—Kicking off exciting Pokémon activity at E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo announced today that the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y video games will launch worldwide on Saturday, October 12, 2013 exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS system. The simultaneous worldwide release of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will allow new and veteran Pokémon fans around the globe the opportunity to battle and trade never-before-seen Pokémon and past favorites with each other immediately.

Also confirmed today is that the newly discovered Pokémon Sylveon is in fact a brand-new type: a Fairy-type Pokémon. The first new type to be introduced in a Pokémon video game in over a decade, Fairy-type Pokémon like Sylveon and their Fairy-type moves will be super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon! Prior to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, only Dragon-type and Ice-type moves were super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon. Fairy-type Pokémon will include not only newly discovered Pokémon like Sylveon, but also Pokémon from past titles like Gardevoir, Marill, and Jigglypuff, which will be reclassified as Fairy-type Pokémon in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Fairy-type Pokémon, the 18th Pokémon type, will add a new dimension and strategy to battling in the new games.

More details about Sylveon, plus two never-before-seen Pokémon, have been revealed today:

· The Fairy-type Sylveon is an Intertwining Pokémon that can manipulate its ribbonlike feelers at will and can emit from them an aura that can calm people and other Pokémon. It often wraps these feelers around the arm of its Trainer as it walks behind him or her. Sylveon can learnMoonblast, a new Fairy-type move debuting in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Moonblast calls on the power of the moon to attack an opposing Pokémon. This move can be very powerful and also lowers the opposing Pokémon’s Attack stat.

· The Sound Wave Pokémon Noivern is a Flying- and Dragon-type Pokémon that is extremely combative and will attack anything that wanders too close to it. Flying through the dark night with ease, Noivern uses the ultrasonic waves it emits from its ears to attack. These waves are so strong they can reduce large boulders to small pebbles. A new Normal-type move in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y that perfectly suits Noivern isBoomburst. This move emits an explosive sound wave that attacks all surrounding Pokémon with the resulting energy. But beware—Boomburst will also strike any nearby allies, so consider the situation and your team’s types before using it!

· Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will introduce the new Bug- and Flying-type Pokémon Vivillon. It’s said there’s a secret behind the colorful decorative pattern on Vivillon’s wings, which it uses to scatter its scales or create a strong wind to attack. Vivillon can learn Struggle Bug, a Bug-type move that lowers the Special Attack of any opposing Pokémon it hits, so the move not only causes damage but also reduces the damage inflicted on Vivillon from certain moves during battle.

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will also allow players to interact with their Pokémon in a whole new way with Pokémon-Amie. Playing and interacting with Pokémon that are in your team by using the Nintendo 3DS system’s Touch Screen will build a stronger bond with them. Building this special bond with your Pokémon in Pokémon-Amie will only help players in their future battles.

Seven Languages in One!

Players of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be able to select from seven different languages at the beginning of the game. In previous games in the main Pokémon series, players were limited to using just one language. Now you can play in English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, or Italian! Once a player select a language, they won't be able to change languages again during gameplay.

E3 Roundtable

A special Nintendo Developer Roundtable for Pokémon X and Y took place on June 11th, 2013. Game Freak Director Junichi Masuda and The Pokémon Company International President Tsunekazu Ishihara were both in attendance. The event was live tweeted by the Official Pokémon Twitter account. One of the interesting tweets indicated there are over 800,000 Japanese characters in the game, which translates to 1.4 million words in English. Below are the new Pokémon that were revealed at this roundtable event.

Talonflame is an evolved form of the recently announced Fletchling, Talonflame is a Fire and Flying-type Pokémon that gains a whole new level of speed and firepower. It dives at foes, and then attacks with devastating kicks.

Clauncher is easily recognizable by the oversized claw on one of its arms. This useful claw can seize prey and shoot water at others as a projectile!

Disguised by its shape, Skrelp pretends to be a piece of seaweed. When prey gets too close, Skrelp bathes it in poison to keep it from struggling.

POKÉMON VIDEO GAME DIRECTOR REVEALS NEW BATTLE SCENARIOS AND NEW WAYS TO CONNECT IN POKÉMON X AND POKÉMON Y

More Brand-New Pokémon Also Introduced at Nintendo’s Developer Roundtable at E3

BELLEVUE, WA—June 11, 2013—Junichi Masuda, Director at GAME FREAK inc., joined Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, at Nintendo’s Developer Roundtable at E3 on Tuesday evening in Los Angeles to discuss Pokémon history and share new features debuting in the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y video games when they launch worldwide October 12, 2013 exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS system. Mr. Masuda revealed a new communication feature debuting in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y—Player Search System or PSS. He also showcased two new battle scenarios players will come across when exploring the Kalos region—Horde Encounters and Sky Battles. These new ways to battle will require Pokémon Trainers to plan accordingly and build a Pokémon party that can withstand a multitude of Pokémon or take on flying Pokémon high in the sky.

The PSS allows players to connect, battle, and trade with other players nearby and around the world. The PSS makes it easy to find other people playing Pokémon X or Pokémon Y near you or even on the other side of the world. When the new communication feature is on, the PSS alerts players when someone nearby is playing Pokémon X or Pokémon Y and gives you the option to battle or trade with them wirelessly. Players with a wireless Internet connection can also connect with Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players anywhere in the world via the PSS, making it easy to battle or trade with others close by or thousands of miles away.

When Pokémon like Houndour, Axew, Tauros, and Miltank appear en masse in the wild in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, players will be facing a Horde Encounter. In past Pokémon titles, Pokémon battles have always involved the same number of Pokémon on both sides, like a regular one-on-one match or a Triple Battle. Horde Encounters take battling to a new, intense level that forces a player to battle against multiple wild Pokémon that attack all at once—with only a single Pokémon on the player’s side. Players will need to ensure their Pokémon has moves that can attack multiple Pokémon at once or they may quickly find themselves on the losing end of the battle.

Select Trainers you encounter in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will challenge players to Sky Battles—fierce battles that take the action high above ground. While players traverse the Kalos region, Trainers standing high on cliffs or in other distant places will want to battle, but players can only participate if they have certain Pokémon in their party that can fly. The Sky Battle is a visually stunning battle scenario and an exciting new addition to Pokémon video games.

Never-before-seen Pokémon made their debut at Nintendo’s Developer Roundtable at E3:

An evolved form of the recently announced Fletchling, Talonflame, is a Fire- and Flying-type Pokémon that gains a whole new level of speed and firepower. Reaching speeds of up to 310 mph when diving for its prey, Talonflame can attack its foes with devastating kicks while embers spew from its body as it zooms through the sky. Talonflame knows Brave Bird, one of the strongest Flying-type moves. Use Brave Bird carefully, though, because the incredible strength of this move also does damage to the user.

The Water Gun Pokémon Clauncher uses its one oversized claw not only to seize prey but also to shoot condensed water at others as a projectile. This capability is so intense that it can crack a boulder! A Water-type Pokémon, Clauncher can also use its giant claw to crush opponents with the powerful Water-type move Crabhammer, which is more likely to land a critical hit. Critical hits against opposing Pokémon will do twice the usual damage.

Some would say that the Poison- and Water-type Pokémon Skrelp appears to be nothing more than a rotting piece of kelp, but don’t let its appearance fool you. Using its unique look to its benefit, Skrelp pretends to be a piece of seaweed, and when prey wander past it, Skrelp bathes them in poison so they can’t struggle when it attacks. Skrelp uses the Poison-type move Sludge Bomb, a move that can leave opposing Pokémon poisoned. A poisoned Pokémon will slowly take damage over the length of a battle.

It was also revealed that Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are the first Pokémon titles that allow players the choice to play the game in one of seven languages: English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Korean, or Spanish.

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will carry a suggested retail price of $39.99.
