Celebrate Pokémon Day with Zacian in Pokémon UNITE

Bear a behemoth blade with Zacian in Pokémon UNITE! Charge up your attacks with Aeos energy and cut the opposition down to size with Legendary power. This powerful Pokémon from the Galar region makes its debut on Aeos Island this Pokémon Day as part of a special event: Adventure in Zacian’s Weald. In this event, Zacian can be obtained without spending Aeos coins or Aeos gems.

The Adventure in Zacian’s Weald event will be held in Pokémon UNITE until Sunday, March 26, at 4:59 p.m. PDT. Players can obtain dice by logging in (and other means) and then roll them to advance squares on a board. As players advance squares, they can complete missions to earn adventure coins and then exchange those coins for Zacian’s Unite license.

To commemorate Pokémon Day and Zacian’s introduction to Pokémon UNITE, players can use the gift code POKEMONDAY to redeem a gold Zacian Pokémon boost emblem, which has useful effects in battle. This gift code is redeemable until Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 4:59 p.m. PDT. To redeem this gift code, follow these steps:

  • Launch Pokémon UNITE on mobile or Nintendo Switch.
  • Select the events icon on the right side of the main menu.
  • Select the Daily Events tab.
  • Scroll down and select Gift Exchange.
  • Select Exchange and then enter the gift code on the page that appears.

Read on to learn more about everything Zacian has to offer in Pokémon UNITE’s latest update and to pick up some tips before battling with this Warrior Pokémon.

Zacian Basics

If Zacian’s basic attacks are performed consecutively within a set time, the effects of the second and subsequent basic attack stages will change. (When Zacian is using a move, this set time is extended.) For stage two, Zacian deals damage to opposing Pokémon and decreases their movement speed. For stage three, Zacian deals damage to opposing Pokémon while restoring its own HP. For stage four, Zacian quickly draws near an opposing Pokémon and deals damage to it. Also for stage four, all of Zacian’s move cooldowns are reduced.

Zacian has the Intrepid Sword Ability. If the goal scoring button is held down, Zacian has its sword charged with Aeos energy, and for a short time, Zacian’s basic attacks become boosted attacks. In addition, during the effect duration, Zacian can use a boosted version of one of its moves once. The longer the goal scoring button is held down, the more Aeos energy is charged into the sword, lengthening the duration of the boost effect on basic attacks and moves. Intrepid Sword goes on cooldown after it’s triggered.

Boosted basic attacks have an increased area of effect and deal additional damage proportional to the opposing Pokémon’s HP. When Zacian knocks out or assists in knocking out a Pokémon on the opposing team, that Pokémon will drop more Aeos energy than it normally would.

Lv. 1 & 3 Moves

Slash - Zacian deals damage to an opposing Pokémon and deals a small amount of damage to nearby opposing Pokémon. When Slash is boosted with Aeos energy, its area of effect is increased, it deals increased damage, and it also decreases opposing Pokémon’s movement speed for a short time.

Quick Attack - Zacian charges in the designated direction, stops in place when it hits an opposing Pokémon, and deals damage to it. When Quick Attack is boosted with Aeos energy, it also leaves opposing Pokémon unable to act for a short time.

Lv. 5 Moves

Metal Claw - Zacian releases a shock wave in the designated direction, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits and decreasing their movement speed. As the shock wave moves forward, it negates projectile attacks from opposing Pokémon it hits. After releasing the shock wave, Zacian also charges and deals damage to opposing Pokémon. If this charge hits an opposing Pokémon, Zacian’s basic attack speed is increased for a short time. When Metal Claw is boosted with Aeos energy, the shock wave’s size and travel distance are increased. Also, the movement speed of opposing Pokémon hit by the shock wave is further decreased. Metal Claw can be upgraded to reduce its cooldown.

Sacred Sword - Zacian slashes around itself as if drawing a circle with the tip of its sword, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and decreasing their movement speed. Zacian then unleashes a slashing attack inside the circle, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits and leaving them unable to act. After this move hits an opposing Pokémon, Zacian’s Attack is increased for a short time, and damage dealt by Zacian’s moves and basic attacks partially ignores the opposing Pokémon’s Defense. When Sacred Sword is boosted with Aeos energy, its area of effect is increased, and the time until the slashing attack is unleashed is reduced. Sacred Sword can be upgraded to reduce the time until the slashing attack is unleashed.

Lv. 7 Moves

Agility - Any hindrances applied to Zacian are removed, and Zacian’s movement speed is greatly increased. After a short time, the movement speed increase weakens and stays that way for a set amount of time. The effect duration is increased if Zacian is in combat with Pokémon from the opposing team. When Agility is boosted with Aeos energy, Zacian’s movement speed is further increased, and Zacian is also granted a shield. Agility can be upgraded to further increase the movement speed boost.

Play Rough - Zacian leaps in the designated direction, dealing damage to an opposing Pokémon it hits and leaving them unable to act. For a short time after Zacian lands, Zacian takes reduced damage from the opposing Pokémon it dealt damage to. When Play Rough is boosted with Aeos energy, Zacian leaps further and will no longer stop in place when hitting an opposing Pokémon, and all opposing Pokémon hit along the leap’s path will receive damage and be left unable to act. Play Rough can be upgraded to increase the length of time opposing Pokémon are left unable to act.

Zacian’s Unite Move, Sovereign Sword

Zacian readies its giant sword, charges the sword with Aeos energy, and then slashes in front of itself. Zacian becomes immune to hindrances while the Unite Move button is held down and Zacian is in its ready stance. The longer Zacian is in this stance, the more Aeos energy is charged into the sword, and the more damage Sovereign Sword deals. If a set amount of Aeos energy or more is charged into the sword, the Unite Move becomes boosted, and the slash’s area of effect increases. This boosted Unite Move deals increased damage to opposing Pokémon it hits who have been buffed by their own Unite Move.

Metagame Watch

Melee All-Rounders are often powerful Pokémon that deal plenty of sustained damage at the cost of low range, making positioning and mobility-focused moves important. Zacian’s Intrepid Sword Ability and the boosted versions of Play Rough and Agility make it possible for Zacian to keep up with speedy, ranged targets, but Zacian will still require some help from teammates to take down key targets.

Strong Against: Zoroark
Zoroark is a powerful Speedster that can knock out key targets in the blink of an eye, but it can be punished with strong hindrances. Since Zoroark needs to get into melee range to deal its damage, Zacian’s Sacred Sword can quickly ruin Zoroark’s day by leaving it unable to act and giving Zacian an angle to counterattack. In games in which Speedsters like Zoroark are running wild, players using Zacian should use Sacred Sword to shut them down.

Weak Against: Delphox
Zacian can counter powerful ranged Pokémon with Metal Claw’s projectile blocking, but Delphox has plenty of ranged tools to keep it at bay, such as Mystical Fire, Fire Spin, and its Unite Move, Fanciful Fireworks. Players using Zacian will want to keep all of these major cooldowns in mind, since it’s unlikely Zacian will be able to deal with Delphox unless all of Delphox’s cooldowns have been expended. Players using Zacian will also want to make sure they use Agility or Play Rough to close the gap to Delphox when the time is right.

POKÉMON ANNOUNCES NEW DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT FOR POKÉMON SCARLET AND POKÉMON VIOLET

Trainers to Continue Their Adventures in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero

Bellevue, WA — February 27, 2023 — Today, on Pokémon Day, during a special Pokémon Presents video presentation that was streamed online to fans around the world, The Pokémon Company announced The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, new downloadable content for the blockbuster Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games. Global sales of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet for the Nintendo Switch family of systems surpassed 10 million combined units in the first three days after their worldwide launch on November 18, 2022—the highest global sales for any software on any Nintendo platform within that timeframe. The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will take fans deeper into the world of Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet and consists of two different adventures—Part 1: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero: The Teal Mask, launching in fall 2023, and Part 2: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero: The Indigo Disk, releasing at a later date. Fans can purchase The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero now on Nintendo eShop.[1]

“We are so grateful that millions of Trainers around the world have chosen to explore the expansive Paldea region,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company. “In The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, fans will take a trip to the land of Kitakami, where they will meet new Pokémon and interesting characters. I sincerely hope that Trainers who embark on this new journey find the same excitement and joy they experienced when they encountered their first Pokémon.”

Players can use their current save data from Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet to continue their adventure in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.[2] In this new downloadable content, players will be leaving the Paldea region, the setting of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. In Part 1: The Teal Mask, a school trip will take players to the land of Kitakami, where they will be joining an outdoors study program held jointly between their academy and another school. In Part 2: The Indigo Disk, players will be traveling to Blueberry Academy, a sister school of their own academy, as exchange students. While this tale is split into two parts, they link together to tell a connected story.

image

In Part 1: The Teal Mask, players will be chosen to take part in a school trip that is held each year in collaboration with another school. They’ll be taken to the land of Kitakami, where a great mountain towers over the land and the people live at its base. It is a place of tranquil natural expanses, featuring rice paddies and apple orchards. The trip seems to coincide with a festival regularly held in the village in Kitakami during this season, so the village is bustling with various street vendors and stalls. Players will meet new friends and Pokémon as they unravel the mysteries behind the folktales that have been passed down in this land.

image

In Part 1: The Teal Mask and Part 2: The Indigo Disk, players will be able to encounter over 230 familiar Pokémon that have been found living in other regions but had not appeared in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. This includes Pokémon that players will be able to bring to their games via Pokémon HOME or those received in trades.[3] Players will also encounter new Legendary Pokémon—Ogerpon in Part 1: The Teal Mask and Terapagos in Part 2: The Indigo Disk. In Part 1: The Teal Mask, three Pokémon named Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti also appear. They are beloved by the people of the village as heroes that protected the land of Kitakami in the past, and stone statues were made in their likeness to express the people’s gratitude.

Players who purchase The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero by Tuesday, October 31, 2023, will be given a serial code for a special gift: a Hisuian Zoroark with three special features.[4] This Hisuian Zoroark knows the move Happy Hour, which it cannot learn through normal gameplay, along with Tera Blast, Bitter Malice, and Nasty Plot. It has the Charismatic Mark, and it has Dark as its Tera Type. The serial code will be valid until Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Notes:

[1] To purchase The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero from the in-game menu, players must have updated their Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game to version 1.2.0 or higher. Full version of game required to use DLC for that game. Sold separately.

[2] To begin the main story of Part 1: The Teal Mask, players will need to have begun their Treasure Hunt in Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet. The start of the Treasure Hunt occurs after about three hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary. To begin the main story of Part 2: The Indigo Disk, players will need to have reached the ending of their Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game and completed the main story of Part 1: The Teal Mask.

[3] Please see here for a list of other titles compatible with Pokémon HOME. The Pokémon that players will be able transfer to each game via Pokémon HOME are limited to Pokémon that can appear in those games.

[4] Players may be able to get Hisuian Zoroark in different ways in the future. Players will need to connect their Nintendo Switch system to the internet to claim this early-purchase bonus. The user profile on a player’s system will need to be linked to a Nintendo Account to connect to the internet. Players can use the serial code for this bonus only once. After they’ve used the code to claim their gift, players will not be able to use the same code in another save file. It takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay before players can access the Mystery Gift feature and use serial codes.

The Posy Picker Pokémon Comfey Is Now Available in Pokémon UNITE

Make the competition Sweet Kiss their chances of winning good-bye with Comfey’s powerful Floral Healing. Comfey picks posies as it frolics its way onto Aeos Island as Pokémon UNITE’s latest Ranged Supporter. With the Ability to attach to ally Pokémon and use stored flowers to empower its support moves, the Posy Picker Pokémon is poised to keep its teammates from falling down. You can obtain Comfey for 12,000 Aeos coins or 575 Aeos gems at the Unite Battle Committee shop. Comfey will only be obtainable with Aeos gems for the first seven days of its release.

Read on to learn more about everything this Pokémon has to offer and to pick up a few tips before frolicking across Aeos Island.

Comfey Basics

Comfey’s Triage Ability centers around collecting flowers. Comfey gains one flower whenever a set amount of time passes, and it gains four flowers when it enters tall grass. Comfey can have a maximum of eight flowers at a time. When Comfey uses Synthesis, Floral Healing, or Sweet Kiss, all flowers attached to it are consumed, and the effects of those moves are boosted. Also, Comfey’s movement speed increases when near an ally Pokémon at half remaining HP or less.

Comfey can attach itself to an ally Pokémon when it uses Synthesis, Floral Healing, or Sweet Kiss. While attached, Comfey is not affected by attacks, and it gradually recovers HP. Comfey can remain attached to an ally Pokémon until that Pokémon is knocked out or until Comfey uses Release. When the ally Pokémon that Comfey is attached to gains more Aeos energy than the maximum it can hold, Comfey takes the excess. When the ally Pokémon that Comfey is attached to scores a goal, Comfey scores with the same amount of energy.

Comfey’s basic attack becomes a boosted attack with every third attack, dealing damage and giving Comfey two flowers.

Lv. 1 & 2 Moves

Synthesis - When Comfey is not attached to an ally Pokémon, it attaches itself to the designated ally Pokémon and grants it a shield. When Comfey is attached to an ally Pokémon, it restores that ally Pokémon’s HP. The more flowers that are consumed, the more HP that is restored. If Comfey releases, it will stop being attached and move in the designated direction.

Vine Whip - Comfey strikes out with whiplike vines in front of itself, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and decreasing their movement speed for a short time.

Lv. 4 Moves

Floral Healing - When Comfey is not attached to an ally Pokémon, it attaches itself to the designated ally Pokémon and grants it a shield. When Comfey is attached to an ally Pokémon, it restores that ally Pokémon’s HP. The more flowers that are consumed, the more HP that is restored. Any HP restored in excess of the ally Pokémon’s maximum is converted into a shield. If Comfey releases, it will stop being attached and move in the designated direction. Floral Healing can be upgraded to increase the movement speed of the ally Pokémon that Comfey is attached to for a short time.

Sweet Kiss - When Comfey is not attached to an ally Pokémon, it attaches itself to the designated ally Pokémon and grants it a shield. When Comfey is attached to an ally Pokémon, it charges power before making opposing Pokémon in the area of effect infatuated. Infatuated Pokémon approach Comfey against their will. The longer power is charged, the larger the area of effect; and the more flowers that are consumed, the longer Pokémon are infatuated. If Comfey releases, it will stop being attached and move in the designated direction. Sweet Kiss can be upgraded to increase the movement speed of the ally Pokémon that Comfey is attached to while Comfey is charging.

Lv. 6 Moves

Magical Leaf - Comfey launches three curious, scattering leaves each second for a set amount of time. The leaves target opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and deal damage when they hit. These leaves can even deal damage to opposing Pokémon hiding in tall grass. If the same opposing Pokémon is damaged six times by these leaves, that Pokémon will be left unable to act. If this move is used when Comfey is attached to an ally Pokémon, its area of effect is increased. Magical Leaf can be upgraded to increase the number of leaves launched each second from three to four.

Grass Knot - Comfey unleashes vines in the designated direction, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits and leaving them unable to move. This move can hit up to two opposing Pokémon. If it hits two opposing Pokémon, it pulls the second to the first’s location and deals additional damage to both. Grass Knot can be upgraded to increase its area of effect.

Comfey’s Unite Move, Flowery Fields Forever

Comfey creates a large area of tall grass around itself. Pokémon in this tall grass cannot be seen, just as with other tall grass on the map. If ally Pokémon enter this tall grass, they will continually recover HP as long as they’re in it. Comfey gains special flowers from this tall grass. Consuming these special flowers boosts Floral Healing and Sweet Kiss.

Metagame Watch

Comfey joins Pokémon UNITE as the first Pokémon that can remain invulnerable to damage for an extended amount of time—and it can continually support its allies while doing so! Floral Healing allows Comfey to attach itself to an ally Pokémon and heal it while also safely dealing damage and locking down opposing Pokémon with Magical Leaf or Grass Knot. With a more offensive focus, Comfey can use Sweet Kiss instead of Floral Healing to attach itself to an ally Pokémon and infatuate opposing Pokémon, making them easy pickings for the team’s carries.

Comfey is best at supporting Pokémon that benefit from the extra durability provided by Floral Healing and the extra hindrances provided by Sweet Kiss, Magical Leaf, and Grass Knot. A build focused on Floral Healing and Grass Knot is strong when Comfey is attached to strong Ranged Attackers like Cinderace and Dragapult. Floral Healing keeps these Pokémon healthy, while Grass Knot can stop aggressive Speedsters, like Absol or Zoroark, in their tracks.

This build is also strong when Comfey is attached to those very Speedsters, since they often lack durability and will benefit from the extra lockdown provided by Grass Knot. Comfey can also opt for Sweet Kiss over Floral Healing in cases where the Comfey is more likely to attach itself to bulky Defenders, like Snorlax, Slowbro, or Trevenant. These Pokémon require less healing and can take advantage of the extra hindrances from Comfey choosing Sweet Kiss and Magical Leaf or Grass Knot as its moves.
