A Report from the Public Dubbing Event
A public dubbing event took place somewhere in Tokyo Wednesday June 15th.
Present on stage were Kanata Hongo, the voice of Soji, Shiori Sato, the voice of Makoto, Koichi Yamadera, the voice of Marshadow, Shoko Nakagawa, the voice of Joy, Arata Furuta, the voice of Bonji, and Director Yuyama.
Sato went to see the very first movie in the theater as a child. This time, she plays the lively and masculine Makoto.
She had trouble getting the running scene right, and had to practice it many times.
Hongo liked Pokémon so much as a kid he wouldn't go play outside on the days it aired on TV. He performs his role as Soji, the boy with a calm exterior hiding true passion, with great skill.
He spoke of his role with the line "I can now die without any regrets", which made the other actors laugh heartily.
Nakagawa is playing in her 11th Pokémon movie this year, and performs a passionate portrayal of Joy, whom she greatly admires. Her performance was so perfect the director even called it "the very image of Joy".
"I've made use of my 11 years of experience and the director's words in every single moment of my life to turn my entire life into Pokémon", she said with passion in her voice.
Furuta was told to "make his performance more excited" and instantly switched gears, playing a Bonji that was profound, yet at the same time overflowing with excitement. Furuta has said he doesn't use his natural speaking voice when voice acting, but he did exactly that this time, and commented that "It actually made me feel really awkward".
Yamadera has played in 20 movies in a row so far, and this time he's in charge of Marshadow's voice. "I have less lines this time than I've ever had before, but it's also my most difficult role so far", he said. He goes on to say he tried various methods in order to follow the difficult instructions he was given, like "It shouldn't sound normal, it shouldn't sound like a voice" and "Make the sound come from your respiratory tract". During the dubbing, he gave us a strange tone of voice that contained both two and three sounds at the same time, which impressed everyone present, the director included.
The session concluded with everyone playing a finger pointing game based on the movie's title "I Choose You!": "If you had to choose one of the guest voice actors to be your travelmate, who would you choose?"
The guest voice actors went "Won't that just cause arguments later?" and "Are you really making us do this? (laughs)" with bitter smiles on their faces.
The end result was that Nakagawa, Yamadera and Furuta pointed to Hongo, Sato pointed to Furuta, and Director Yuyama pointed to Yamadera.
There's only one month left until the movie premieres! Make sure to check out the passionate performances from all the guest voice actors in the theater!!

Check out the Marshadow we're giving out!!
Marshadow
A Mythical Pokémon you can't encounter during normal gameplay!
Level: 50 Ability: Technician Type: Fighting/Ghost Moves: Spectral Thief, Close Combat, Force Palm, Shadow Ball Ball: Precious Ball Ribbon: Wish Ribbon Owner's name: Mount Tensei
Marshadow, the Mythical Pokémon that hides in shadows!
The "Gloomdweller Pokémon" that hides in shadows
Marshadow is a Pokémon able to hide inside shadows. It's become a mythical Pokémon due to it never showing itself to people.
It's a very wary Pokémon, so it explores its surroundings while hiding inside shadows so that nobody will notice it while it does so.
This is probably why it's so difficult to find. Copying its opponent's moves and powers
Amazingly, Marshadow is capable of copying an opponent's moves and powers after slipping into that opponent's shadow. The first ever Fighting/Ghost type Pokémon has been discovered!
Lots and lots of Pokémon have had their existence confirmed so far, but Marshadow is, incredibly enough, the first to be both a Fighting type and a Ghost type at the same time. Marshadow is an extremely rare Pokémon even if you just look at its typing. Even if it faces Psychic types, which Fighting types are originally weak against, it can take advantage of the Ghost type and attack with an advantage!
Make your fighting spirit burn, Marshadow!
When it unleashes a move, it turns green?!
When Marshadow confronts an opponent using the full extent of its power, such as when it unleashes a move, the fighting spirit burning in its body turns parts of its body green.
Marshadow's signature move, which only it can learn: "Spectral Thief"
"Spectral Thief" is a new move that only Marshadow can learn. It's a powerful physical move with a shocking effect never before seen, which allows you to attack after stealing the opponent's increases in their capabilities.
Turn a troublesome situation into your advantage and seize victory!
Marshadow also knows these moves:
Close Combat
A powerful physical Fighting type move. Since it lowers Defense and Special Defense after attacking, you should make sure to use it when it counts!
Force Palm
A physical Fighting type move. Thanks to the effect of the Ability "Technician", which increases the power of moves with less than 60 power, this move's power increases when Marshadow uses it! It's a very easy-to-use move that also inflicts "Paralysis" on the opponent it's used on.
Shadow Ball
A special Ghost type move. It's an effective strategy to attack opponents with high Defense with Shadow Ball and opponents with high Special Defense with Spectral Thief!
What is the exclusive Z-Move "Soul-Stealing 7-Star Strike"?
"Soul-Stealing 7-Star Strike" is a special Z-Move that can be used by Marshadow that know "Spectral Thief" if they hold the "Marshadow-Z", a special Z-Crystal that can't be obtained during normal play.
After receiving the "Marshadow" and the "Marshadow-Z", make sure you try experiencing this brilliant finishing blow Marshadow lands as its fighting spirit burns bright.
This is a powerful Z-Move where Marshadow, having received Z-Power, leaps from the Trainer's shadow and delivers a series of punches and kicks, driving into the opponent with its fully powered strength.
How to receive "Marshadow" and the "Marshadow-Z"
Receive the "Marshadow" and the "Marshadow-Z" from your seat, either before the movie begins or after it has ended
Important: Make sure to receive the "Marshadow" and the "Marshadow-Z" during the intermission right before or after the movie screening, while sitting in your audience seat. Also, make sure to keep your Nintendo 3DS series game system closed while the movie is being screened in order to not bother other members of the audience.
Advance preparation: Go to the theater fully prepared to receive the "Marshadow" and the "Marshadow-Z"!
Bring the following:
*A fully charged Nintendo 3DS-series system
*A copy of either of the Nintendo 3DS games "Pocket Monsters Sun/Moon"
(both the cart version and the download version can be used)
Make preparations in the game itself as well:
*Make sure you won't have the max amount of wonder cards.
*Make sure the wireless communication on your Nintendo 3DS system is turned "ON"
Step 1: Receive the "Wonder Card" in the theater
Turn on the Nintendo 3DS series system after making the game accessible, then start the game, choose "Mystery Gift" from the menu screen, and receive the "Wonder Card" by following these steps:
*After starting the game, choose "Mystery Gift" from the title menu and press A.
*Select "Receive Mystery Gift" and press A.
*On the next screen, select "Receive via local communication" and press A. Then select "Yes" to confirm you want the communication to start and press A.
*Once you've selected the "Gift" to receive and pressed A, you'll finally start to receive it.
*Do not turn off the power or the communication while the gift is being received.
*You will see a confirmations screen once the gift has been received. At this point, the gift has automatically been saved, so you can safely turn the power off.
This is all you need to do in the theater itself!
Step 2: Receive the "Marshadow" and the "Marshadow-Z" from the Pokémon Center in the game!
Once you have received the "Wonder Card", you can receive the "Marshadow" and the "Marshadow-Z" from the Pokémon Center. Choose "Continue Play" from the menu screen to resume your game, then follow these steps to receive it:
*After resuming the game, ensure there is an "empty" space among your Pokémon on hand.
*Enter a nearby Pokémon Center.
(Pokémon Centers are located in various spots throughout the game. It is estimated you will have to play for about an hour and a half until you can first visit one)
*Talk to the delivery person in orange clothes with the A button to receive the "Marshadow" and the "Marshadow-Z". Make sure to save the game afterwards.
For those who have not started playing yet:
*When you first start playing "Pocket Monsters Sun/Moon", the "Mystery Gift" menu will not be avilable. Those of you playing for the first time will see a different title menu instead. Choose a language from here and start the game, then play until the "Save" function becomes available to you and save the game. Next, press the HOME button on your Nintendo 3DS series system and end the game, then restart it and the standard title menu will display.
If you are unable to receive the gift, please check the following steps:
Step 1: If you are unable to receive the "Wonder Card"
If the game tells you you have too many gifts:
The game will tell you this if you have 48 "Wonder Cards". Please discard a "Wonder Card" to make room in your album, and you'll be able to receive "Gifts" again. If you don't have any "Wonder Cards" you can immediately discard, resume your adventure and receive any gifts you have yet to receive from the delivery person at the Pokémon Center. By doing this, you will be able to throw away "Wonder Cards"
If the game tells you wireless communication is turned off:
If you have a New Nintendo 3DS/New 3DSLL/2DS, go to the "HOME menu settings" menu in the top left corner of the home menu, then to "Wireless Communication/NFC" from there, and activate it. If you have a Nintendo 3DS/3DSLL, set wireless communication to ON by sliding the wireless switch at the right hand side of the system marked WIRELESS.
Step 2: If you are unable to receive the Pokémon
If the delivery person tells you you have too many Pokémon on hand:
You will see this message if you talk to the delivery person in orange clothes when having 6 Pokémon on hand. In order to receive a giveaway Pokémon, ensure there is an "empty" space among your Pokémon on hand. Use the computer in the middle right side of the Pokémon Center to put one of your Pokémon on hand in one of the boxes in the computer. Then talk to the delivery person again, and you will be able to receive the Pokémon.
