The Pokémon Company has announced that the sign up for the Interest List to be entered into a draw to get a spectator badge for the 2023 Pokémon World Championships in Yokohama, Japan is open until June 7th, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. For those that are selected, the spectator badge costs 2,000 yen but also includes 2 TCG booster packs.

Update: On June 9th, 2023, Play Pokémon announced that they postponed the interest list drawing until the week of June 12th, 2023.

Attention Trainers,
To provide a better experience to our global fans, we've postponed the interest list drawing until the week of June 12th. Be on the lookout, as selected individuals will be promptly notified via email as planned. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sign Up for the Interest List

Add yourself to the Interest List to register for a spectator badge via the link below before June 7 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

Once the deadline has passed, there will be a randomized draw of the individuals on the Interest List to select a certain number of individuals who can then register for a spectator badge. Please note that the number of individuals who sign up for the Interest List may exceed the number of spectator badges available, in which case only a selection of individuals from the Interest List will be able to register for a spectator badge.

Phase 2: Register and purchase if you are contacted:

The Interest List drawing will occur on June 8, 2023, and those individuals selected from the list will be contacted by email. Once the selection email is sent, individuals will have 72 hours to register and pay for their spectator badge. If an individual does not register and complete their purchase in that time window, their passes will be released to the next name on the Interest List. All individuals selected will be contacted by email and will be given a 72-hour window to register and pay for their spectator badge(s).

For those who are selected, the registration fee for a single spectator badge is ¥2,000 (including tax) for an attendee over the age of five. Registration fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable, and a maximum of two spectator badges can be purchased at one time. All spectators will receive two booster packs (subject to change) when they pick up their badges. No additional spectator badges will be sold on-site, and no passes will be released for sale online during the event.

If you have purchased a spectator badge, you will receive a registration confirmation email. This email is required to pick up your spectator badge(s). Children age 5 and under do not need to be registered in advance and will instead be given wristbands on-site at the event. Children age 5 and under do not receive any additional items.

The 2022 Pokémon TCG World Championships Decks will be available in the Pokémon Center and where Pokémon TCG products are sold on March 3rd, 2023.

2022 Pokémon TCG World Championships Decks

Grab a World Championships deck and play like a champion! Choose one of four powerful decks, each a card-for-card replica of an actual title-contender's deck from the 2022 Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships. You'll find decks based on those used by Junior Division Champion Rikuto Ohashi (Japan), Senior Finalist Sebastian Lashmet (United States), Masters Division Quarterfinalist André Chiasson (Canada), and Masters Division Champion Ondřej Škubal (Czechia).

No matter which style you prefer, there's a deck for everyone. Sebastian Lashmet's deck features Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX and the calm, collected, and calculated Inteleon engine. Rikuto Ohashi's deck features the same Inteleon engine alongside the raw, ancient power of Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR. For those who prefer to put the pedal to the metal, André Chiasson's Mew VMAX speeds into action alongside the explosive draw power of Genesect V. And if you're into decks with a ton of options, World Champion Ondřej Škubal has you (and your opponent's Weaknesses) covered with a multitype deck featuring Arceus VSTAR, Hisuian Decidueye VSTAR, and Flying Pikachu VMAX.

These replica decks have a different card back than standard Pokémon TCG cards, as well as gray borders and the player's signature on each card. This means that the cards are not legal for tournament play, but they're perfect for diving into the world of competitive Pokémon TCG. Learn how the best Trainers in the world build their decks, and figure out how to execute their strategies. Once you're ready, why not prepare for your own World Championships bid?

Each 2022 Pokémon TCG World Championships Deck includes:

  • 60-card World Championships Deck
  • 2022 World Championships booklet
  • Special 2022 World Championships pin
  • 2022 World Championships coin
  • 2022 World Championships deck box
  • A playmat and poster
  • A code card for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live

A Body Optimized for Running
Cyclizar can sprint at over 70 mph while carrying a human. Its extremely hard head and thick, lithe tail are not only useful for maintaining balance and absorbing shocks while sprinting—they also provide effective ways to attack during battles.

Press Release - Top Pokémon Competitors Crowned at the 2022 Pokémon World Championships

New Game Mechanic Unveiled for the Pokémon Trading Card Game; More Details Shared for the Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet Video Games

London, UK—August 22, 2022—The 2022 Pokémon World Championships came to a close yesterday following four days of intense matches and friendly competition in London, UK. The best Trainers from around the world attended the annual event to take part in the premier tournament for Pokémon video games and the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). This year’s event featured the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games, the Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokkén Tournament DX and Pokémon UNITE. Winners of each division can be found here.

New information for the highly anticipated Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet video games was revealed during the closing ceremony, introducing a new regional Pokémon, a deeper look at the Terastal Phenomenon and more. The Pokémon Company and Creatures also announced the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG): Scarlet & Violet Series, launching in 2023. The Scarlet & Violet Series will become the new Standard format for competitive play.

The Pokémon World Championships is an invitation-only event held in a different location every year, for which players can qualify by competing in various local, regional and international tournaments in the Play! Pokémon program. This year’s champions were awarded a one-of-a-kind Pokémon World Championships trophy and a portion of a prize pool totaling more than $1,000,000.

The location of the 2023 Pokémon World Championships was also announced during the closing ceremony on Sunday evening, to be held in Yokohama, Japan.

Pokémon Trading Card Game: Scarlet & Violet Series and Pokémon ex Gameplay Mechanic Unveiled
Unveiled during the Pokémon World Championships was Pokémon ex, a new gameplay mechanic that will release in the Scarlet & Violet Series. Featuring fan-favorite Pokémon and newly discovered ones, Pokémon ex will appear in each stage of evolution and have high HP, as well as powerful attacks and Abilities.

While getting a Pokémon ex Knocked Out by an opponent can cost two Prize cards, Stage 2 Pokémon ex have the power to quickly turn the tide of the battle with high HP and powerful attacks that require little Energy. The theme of “comebacks” will be a key focus for the Scarlet & Violet Series, as players will encounter various Pokémon, Trainer, and Energy cards that can create critical turning points in the game.

Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet Video Games

Developed by GAME FREAK inc., Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet take a new evolutionary step in the Pokémon main series. Trainers can explore an open world where various towns with no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness.

A New Pokémon Revealed: Cyclizar
Cyclizar has lived in many households in the Paldea region since ancient times. It has a mild disposition, and people riding Cyclizar are a very common sight. It appears Cyclizar don't mind being ridden because the warmth of a rider helps stave off the cold.

Weight: 138.9 lbs.

Battle with Pokémon Trainers from All over the World in the Battle Stadium
Ranked Battles, which players have had the chance to enjoy in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, will be returning in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Players will also be able to take on battles in modes like Casual Battles and Online Competitions as well.

Master Using the Terastal Phenomenon in Battle
Terastallizing is a phenomenon in the Paldea region that makes Pokémon shine and glimmer like gems. The primary feature of Terastallizing in battle is that it changes a Pokémon’s type to its Tera Type. Pokémon don’t outwardly show what their Tera Type is until they Terastallize—a fact that players can use to take opponents by surprise in battle.

Tera Blast is a Normal-type move that can be learned with a TM. When used by a Terastallized Pokémon, it becomes a move of the same type as the Pokémon’s Tera Type. Tera Blast inflicts damage using the Attack or Sp. Atk stat—whichever is higher for the user.

Introducing New Held Items
Mirror Herb - This herb will allow the holder to mirror an opponent’s stat increases and boost its own stats–but only once.
Covert Cloak - This hooded cloak conceals the holder, protecting it from the additional effects of moves.
Loaded Dice - If a Pokémon holding this item uses a multistrike move, that move will be more likely to hit more times.

The Pokémon Company has announced the initial details for the 2023 Pokémon Championship Series and it features the return of the Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, VGC, Pokémon UNITE and more!

Get a First Look at Plans for the 2023 Pokémon Championship Series

The 2023 Play! Pokémon season features the return of Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, VGC, Pokémon UNITE, and much more!

After an invigorating return to competitive Pokémon during the 2022 Pokémon Championship Series, we have more details regarding the future of the series. The 2023 Pokémon Championship Series, leading to the 2023 Pokémon World Championships, will include four different Pokémon games: the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon video games, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon UNITE. Regional Championships and International Championships will continue to be hosted across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Oceania, and Travel Awards will be available for these events.

The age divisions for players in the 2023 season will increase by one year from the 2022 season:
  • Junior Division: Born in 2011 or later
  • Senior Division: Born in 2007, 2008, 2009, or 2010
  • Masters Division: Born in 2006 or earlier

2023 Pokémon TCG Championship Series

The Pokémon TCG Championship Series largely remains unchanged going into the 2023 season and will continue to suspend all local Championship Point (CP) tournaments (e.g., League Challenges and League Cups) until further notice.

Most Championship Series events, including all Regional and International Championships, use the Standard format.

2023 Pokémon Video Game Championship (VGC) Series

With Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet releasing later this year, we will reevaluate the structure of the 2023 VGC circuit. After the 2022 World Championships, there will be no Video Game Championship Series events until January 2023, when all competitive events will be played in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. More information will be released later in 2022.

2023 Pokémon GO Championship Series

Following the success of the inaugural 2022 season, Pokémon GO will return to the 2023 Pokémon Championship Series. Pokémon GO will feature at many more events alongside both the Pokémon TCG and VGC events. All players will compete in a single age division in the 2023 Pokémon GO Championship Series.

Event Schedule and Travel Awards

Regional Championships will continue to take place in the 2023 season, with numerous events making their way to North America, Europe, and Latin America. Special Events will also return to Europe for the 2023 season. There are currently no announced Regional Championships for Oceania; however, details of those events will be announced at a later date. Most Regionals will feature both Pokémon TCG and Pokémon GO during this season’s Championship Series, and Regionals taking place after January 2023 will also feature VGC events using Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The main competitions for Regional Championships in North America will take place on Saturdays and Sundays, but competitors are encouraged to show up early to check in and compete in side events on Fridays. More Regionals will be announced at a later date. Dates, locations, and formats are subject to change.

You can claim a blue T-shirt avatar item featuring the 2022 Pokémon World Championships artwork—celebrating the host city, London—by redeeming a code that will be shared via livestream.

Trainers who happen to be attending the 2022 Pokémon World Championships in person will be able to claim a red version of the same T-shirt avatar by spinning the PokéStop at Niantic’s event booth.
