Suzuki: I am Minori Suzuki, and I play Liko in the Pocket Monsters TV show.
Terasaki: And I am Yuka Terasaki, I play Roy. This time, the opening theme for Wonder Voyage, the new chapter of the Pokémon anime that's starting May 22nd, is going to be Sekai Tsunagare.
Suzuki: And we are going to be singing the song as Liko and Roy.
Both: Yay!
Suzuki: When I first learned we would get the opportunity to sing as Liko and Roy, I was simply overjoyed. We had previously sung a rap together with the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers, and when I saw a crowd of Pokénds sing that song, "RVR", at a Pokédoko event we were attending as audience members, I thought that if they were having so much fun singing that song, I'd definitely want to sing an opening as well. Now my wish has come true, and it makes me so happy.
Terasaki: I vividly remember that the instant I learned this was happening, I immediately contacted Minori-chan and just went "Did you hear?!". I think of anime openings as extremely significant songs for introducing the story to the viewers, and we were fortunate enough to get to pour lots of happy thoughts into this song so that the viewers will be able to, you know, set off on a fun adventure.

I believe this is the first time Liko and Roy have done the vocals for a song since RVR: Rising Volt Tacklers Rap, have your emotions or performance styles changed in any way since then?
Terasaki: Have yours?
Suzuki: They have.
Terasaki: They have? So have mine.
Suzuki: I really did have a lot of fun rapping with everyone, but this time I was singing an actual proper SONG, and... one that had lyrics that were influence by Liko and Roy's story at that, so you know, at first I was really nervous and worried about how to perform it. However, during the recording session, while I was singing alone, it suddenly hit me that this is a song that's supposed to make you feel like you have your companions there with you as you sing it.
Terasaki: That's wonderful.
Suzuki: And once I started feeling like Roy was there with me, that Masquernya and the others were there with me, I suddenly started singing so much better. That's the way I've changed, or more specifically, that's the way I gained a strong sense of companionship, which I think is pretty unique to this song.
Terasaki: Mm, indeed. As for me, I've... really grown a lot over the three years I've been doing this, haven't I? And well, so have Liko and Roy. So unlike when we did RVR, this time I had this really strong desire to convey the message in these lyrics to the listeners. And you know, thanks to Uruto joining the group, Roy has become kind of like an older brother of sorts, so I tried working in some gentle conversation-esque type of singing here and there...
Suzuki: Yes, yes! Like "Aseranaide..."
Terasaki: Exactly. It's not like I was literally speaking, but I feel like I was very focused on making the emotion in these lyrics get through to the listener.

Did any part of the lyrics make a particularly strong impression on you?
Suzuki: Yeah. I found lots of phrases that I felt were very Liko-esque, like "aseranaide", and... there's a point where the lyrics contain the word "recollection", and you know... They had LIKO sing "RECOllection"... I just couldn't help but wonder if that was intentional. This is ultimately a song I'm singing to you guys though, and the lyrics are just filled with phrases that made me feel happy, such as the thought that it’s precisely because I’ve matured that I’m now able to invite others to come along with me.
Terasaki: Right. I also feel that lyrics like "You can do things your own way", "It's okay to take breaks, don't stress things, just make progress at your own pace" and "You don’t have to force yourself to be mature" resonate emotionally with a lot of people, and I really love how the lyrics give off this feel that taking breaks is part of making progress.

This time the song was produced by HoneyWorks, what were your thoughts on the music itself?
Terasaki: My immediate reaction was just thinking what a great song it was; The tempo is absolutely perfect for an anime opening. I kept listening to it over and over, being so so happy that I would get to sing it.
Suzuki: I was obviously familiar with HoneyWorks already, but when I learned they were going to produce this song, I just knew it would be an absolute delight. I also thought for sure it was going to be a song everyone could sing along to, and it ended up exceeding my expectations in that regard. The song isn't just pure fun though, it also contains the forcefulness of adventure, and you know, this slightly melancholy, or rather, sentimental-ish feeling of enjoying yourself to the fullest within a limited amount of time.
Terasaki: Indeed. If someone listens to the full song, they'll understand what you mean, right?
Suzuki: Yeah!
Terasaki: We want you to listen to the entire song in full at least once.
Suzuki: That's right. That's what the song feels like.

Which parts of the song do each of you personally consider an absolute must to check out?
Terasaki: Personally?
Suzuki: Personally.
Terasaki: Can I go first?
Suzuki: Sure.
Terasaki: Mine is the bit that goes "Oh Oh Volt Tacklers"
Suzuki: That's mine too.
Terasaki: What, really?
Terasaki: We have the same answer then. We recorded quite a few different ways of saying that line, didn't we? Like 5 different ways of saying "Volt Tacklers", sometimes set to the meoldy, sometimes not, sometimes just spoken like a fun line of dialogue... then we just bam!, threw them all together in the mix. But you know, if you listen carefully to those bits, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to make out several different Liko and Roy voices.
Suzuki: When I sang this bit as Liko, I was also doing it to give everyone a supportive push. Also, the fact that the opening song includes the phrase "Rising Volt Tacklers", like, the name of the team Liko and Roy have been working with thus far, makes it a song that specifically goes with their story. It made me really happy to realize it was a one-of-a-kind song like that.
Suzuki: With that said, the Pocket Monsters TV show airs every Friday at 6:55pm on the TV Tokyo Network. And believe it or not, the new chapter is going to feature a Metamon as well as the new character Navi.
Terasaki: That's right. It's going to be exciting to learn what role they are they going to play in the Rising Volt Tacklers' adventure, isn't it?
Suzuki: Isn't it?
Terasaki: Right?
Suzuki: It is!
Terasaki: It is!

The popular Pocket Monsters anime (airs on the TV Tokyo Network every Friday at 6:55pm, officially abbreviated "Anipoke") will plunge into a new chapter titled the "Wonder Voyage" arc starting with the episode airing May 22nd. A new trailer has been released to celebrate this, and we've received comments from Liko's voice actress Minori Suzuki-san, Roy's voice actress Yuka Terasaki-san, Dot's voice actress Yoshino Aoyama-san and Uruto's voice actress Natsumi Fujiwara-san in preparation for the premiere of the new chapter.

The trailer depicts Liko and the others rediscovering the way forward after having lost sight of what they actually want to do, as well as the Rising Volt Tacklers setting off anew. The trailer is packed with exciting elements such as appearances by the new character Navi and Metamon, Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y, and ends with a new story starting with the sound of the characters shouting "Reboot!"

A comment from Minori Suzuki, the voice of Liko:
For several years now, I've kept fighting alongside Pagogo and the others with all my heart, and Liko, Roy and all the others have grown so so much through this adventure. The new Wonder Voyage chapter that follows Rising Again will of course be filled with mega exciting battles, but also with lots of everyday scenes that are going to feel somewhat nostalgic! Both Liko and I have been running at full speed alongside our companions, and it's precisely for that reason we've not only forgotten how to relax, but also how to STOP relaxing (laughs). It's going to be quite a few days of trial and error for us, but they're going to be exciting days of searching for that "dokimeki" and regaining that initial enthusiasm I once had when I first started out!This new chapter is going to let us observe the love for Pokémon Liko has cherished for so long from all kinds of angles, and I hope we'll be able to share that love with people all over the world through the Pokémon anime! And it would be great if... we got some new companions too!

It has been a full 3 years since this series started. During those years, we've started many new chapters, but Wonder Voyage has a slightly different vibe to it than all the earlier ones. This time, Liko and the others are no longer going to continue their passionate adventure to eradicate the Rakulium, but are instead going on a new journey out of a desire to meet Pokémon they've never seen before. As far as we're concerned, in a way this might actually be the real beginning of their adventure. Now that we've had some new companions join us, the Rising Volt Tacklers have become an even livelier little gang! Even I am really excited for the beginning of this new adventure, wondering what kind of stories lie in wait. I hope you'll continue to enjoy the show!

The sound of the words Wonder Voyage and the party-esque key visual already convey an immeasurable sense of excitement! Liko and the others have had a huge amount of grand, fierce battles thus far, and every time they've fought them with body and soul brimming with determination and trust in their Partners. I really hope you'll look forward to seeing how their qualities will come into play in this new chapter. Dot's inquisitive mind has no bounds when it comes to Pokémon, and I am going to continue walking down this path alongside you viewers in order to bring you even more thrills as I return her to her initial desire to learn more about these creatures. We got really surprised when we first learned that Cutie Street would be handling an ending theme for the Pocket Monsters anime! It's hard to believe the day when we got to do the ending theme for a show that's so beloved and has brought so many smiles to so many people has actually come. This is such an honor!
We hope you'll not only pay close attention to the lyrics of Cute na Cutai, but also to its cute dance choreography that's based around monster balls and Pikachu! A lot of the dancing involves moves even small children will be able to have fun imitating, so it would make us really happy if everyone could have fun together with this song!
This is a really addictive song that has a lot of little earworm phrases, and that will no doubt make you want to hum and dance along to it, so please look forward to both the song and the anime itself every week from here on!

Being from the generation that grew up exposed to Pokémon starting with the 1996 release of Pocket Monsters Red/Green, we are both very happy and honored to have been asked to produce the opening theme this time. Some members of HoneyWorks have played every entry in the Pocket Monsters series so far, and some are still totally addicted to things like the Pokémon Card Game and Pokémon Go. It's been about 30 years since the Pokémon anime started airing, and I would love to brag to my younger self who watched the anime with sparkling eyes every single week without fail that I got to work on a Pokémon theme song (laughs).
We tried to make our new song Sekai Tsunagare an exciting and thrilling song based around the idea of Liko, Roy and the Rising Volt Tacklers setting off on a new journey, and I believe we succeeded in creating the kind of upbeat and pleasant rock-style song we at HoneyWorks specialize in.
Sekai Tsunagare will serve as the opening theme for the new chapter, and it would make me really happy if it helped make the Pokémon anime even more wonderful.

Ever since I saw a crowd of Pokénds singing the earlier ending theme RVR: Rising Volt Tacklers Rap, I've secretly dreamed of Liko and Roy getting to sing an opening as well, so I became extremely happy when I learned this was actually happening!
I sang this song as if I was Liko and had Roy, Masquernya and the others there, feeling the kindness of my Partners and companions. Singing this song made me feel past and present adventures hitting me straight in the heart.
The song automatically fired me up, and I loved every minute of the recording session, singing with a huge smile on my face while feeling so happy I almost cried! May this song make both the Pokémon anime community and the Pokémon fan community even bigger and more dedicated!

Ever since I got to sing the earlier ending theme RVR: Rising Volt Tacklers Rap, I've hoped I'd get to sing an opening one day as well, so I'm really happy my wish actually came true.
I think of anime openings as one of the most important beginnings out there the way they guide the viewers into the world of the story they're about to watch, which is precisely why I sang this song while taking in that very world so that I could give off that feeling of beginning an exciting adventure.
This is a wonderful song that will make you feel optimistic and ready for what lies ahead, one that fits the Rising Volt Tacklers perfectly, and I myself am really looking forward to seeing what kind of animation they're going to play alongside it. I hope a lot of you Pokémon anime fans will sing along.
And make sure to look forward to Liko, Roy and the others' next adventure, which will begin alongside this new opening theme!

The Pocket Monsters Music Fest airs on the 30th anniversary of Pocket Monsters Red/Green's release! Cutie Street, who are responsible for the ending theme for the new chapter of the Pocket Monsters TV show (airs every Friday at 6:55pm), the "Wonder Voyage" arc, will be present there as well, performing their new song Cute na Cutai as a sneak preview before the new chapter actually starts! We interviewed the members of Cutie Street right after the recording of the music fest was done, asking them about things like the appeal of their song, about Pokémon in general, and about how their appearance on a Korean music show ended up going viral.

CUTIE STREET INTERVIEW:

Q: How did you feel when you learned Cutie Street's song Cute na Cutai was going to be an ending theme for the Pocket Monsters TV show?
Emiru Kawamoto: All 8 of us were together when the staff made the surprise announcement that the song was going to be a Pokémon ending theme, which made us all so overjoyed we screamed in disbelief. Imagine, OUR song is going to be an ending theme for Pokémon, a show we've watched since we were little? It's like a dream come true.
Risa Furusawa: We've been talking about how amazing it would be to do something like an anime theme song ever since our debut, so I'm really happy it ended up happening so soon.
Nagisa Manabe: I'm really looking forward to all manners of people being able to give this song a listen, including both little children and Pokémon fans all over the world.
Ayano Masuda: I've grown up watching Pokémon ever since I was little, so my family was really happy for me when I told them the news. It still feels like a dream that our song is going to be a part of the anime, and I'm incredibly excited about the possibility that this song will remind people of Pokémon when they hear it.
Kana Itakura: I also used to watch Pokémon with my friends since I was little, so I would've liked to tell that younger self of mine that I'd get to be responsible for this ending theme in the future.
Haruka Sakuraba: Our supportive fans love Pokémon as well, so they got absolutely overjoyed when it got announced that we were going to be responsible for this ending theme. I'm looking forward to our song reaching Pokémon fans all over the world.
Aika Sano: To be quite honest, it still doesn't feel like this is really happening. I keep wondering what it's going to feel like to watch Pokémon on TV and suddenly have our song play during the ending.
Miyu Umeda: I want to do my utmost to make our song become a hit all over the world just like Pokémon itself has become!

Q: What are some particularly noteworthy points about Cute na Cutai?
Umeda: The catchy rhythm and lyrics both make the song a real earworm. I really like how the melody makes you want to hum along to it.
Manabe: The lyrics include words that connect to the anime, like "monster ball".
Masuda: The lyrics connect to the Pokémon story itself, with bits that go "Let's be companions" or "Let's set off on a one-of-a-kind journey".
Itakura: The lyrics also include dialogue straight from the anime, and it felt really emotional when I watched those scenes and recognized the lines from the lyrics. Noticing the connection between the song and the anime is another fun element it has.
Kawamoto: I really like the wonderful lyrics; They're filled with supportive phrases for people chasing their dreams, like "The future will no doubt be bright" or "Overcome any hardship", and it feels like they support not only children chasing their dreams, but also ourselves.
Sano: Pay extra attention to the very first note of the song as well. The lyrics, the notes and the choreography all have these little Pokémon elements scattered throughout.
Furusawa: Yes, the choreography includes movements that look like you're throwing a monster ball.
Itakura: We were extremely particular about the monster ball choreography, practicing our hand movements over and over to make it look like we were actually holding monster balls, including making the imaginary balls the same size and the wrist motion for opening them. We want even little children to dance along to this song.



Q: What are your favorite Pokémon characters, and do you have any particularly notable memories related to them?
Manabe: I love Mijumaru. It was love at first sight when I was little.
Furusawa: I love Mawhip, it's so cute.
Kawamoto: I really liked Pochama and Lucario when I was little, but recently I've been completely infatuated with Hogator. The way its eyes light up in admiration of Lizardon is so cute.
Sano: I love Pochama, and I used to follow the Pochama Drawing Song to confidently draw pictures of it all over the place.
Masuda: I love Emonga. The way its facial expression is constantly flip-flopping is just too cute and wholesome.
Itakura: I really liked Mimirol when I was little, and I also remember being moved to tears when watching Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl the Movie: Giratina and the Sky Bouquet Shaymin, the movie Shaymin appears in. As of recent, I've been finding Nyahoja's moodyness and tsundere behavior to be really cute. The way it makes its jealousy so blatantly clear is just irresistably endearing.
Sakuraba: I really like Upah; It was love at first sight when I first caught it in the Pokémon video game, and I made it part of my team immediately. I also got infatuated with Pippi when I met it at the Pokémon Music Fest.
Umeda: I really like the Mythical Pokémon Mew because its name sounds like my name, "Miyu". I've also always loved Nymphia because it's so cute. Zenigame also really intrigues me due to it following me around at the Pokémon Music Fest, so I'm thinking of putting it on my team in the video game.

Q: Kawaii Lab., the idol project you're all part of, operates with the concept "From Harajuku to the World", and this March you blew up in Korea as well when you appeared on the Korean music show M Countdown. Now you're handling an ending theme for Pokémon, which is popular all over the world. You're truly in the process of taking huge steps "to the World", so what is Cutie Street's current situation, as well as ambitions for the future?
Manabe: We've definitely noticed we've been getting more comments written in Korean on social media. I've recently started taking lessons in Korean as well as self-studying so that I can read all their messages. I consider the response we got in Korea to be "the first step", so I want to work towards getting people all over the world to listen to our songs.
Kawamoto: During our concert in Korea, it felt like our Japanese idol "kawaii" elements, like the colorful costumes and the visuals, were appreciated, which gave us confidence that there's nothing wrong with the "kawaii" we present, or with Japanese idol culture in general. I believe that by continuing to cherish this concept of "kawaii" and present it with all our might, the appeal of Japanese idols might be able to reach audiences around the world, and I want to continue doing my best so that we'll be able to take that first step forward.

――CUTIE STREETさんの楽曲「キュートなキューたい」が、テレビアニメ「ポケットモンスター」のエンディングテーマに決まった感想は？

川本笑瑠「8人で集まっている時に、サプライズ発表でスタッフさんから『ポケモンのエンディングテーマに決まりました』と告げられて、みんな信じられないくらい叫んで喜びました。小さい頃から見ていたポケモンのエンディングテーマに、まさか自分たちの楽曲がなるなんて。本当に夢みたいなことです」

古澤里紗「デビュー当時から『アニメの主題歌とかできたらいいよね』って話していたので、こんなにも早く実現できて嬉しいです」

真鍋凪咲「小さな子どもたちも、ポケモンファンの世界中の人たちも、いろんな方に聴いていただけることが、今からとても楽しみです」

増田彩乃「小さな頃からポケモンを観て育ったので、最初に家族に報告したらみんな喜んでくれました。私たちの楽曲がアニメの一部になるなんて夢のようですし、“この曲を聴くとポケモンが思い浮かぶ”という楽曲になってくれたらいいなとワクワクでいっぱいです」

板倉「可奈「私も小さい頃から友達と観ていたので、あの頃の自分に『将来、このエンディングテーマを担当させてもらえるんだよ』と言ってあげたいです」

桜庭遥花「私たちを応援してくれているファンの方たちもポケモンが大好きで、エンディングテーマを担当することを発表した時にすごく喜んでくれました。世界中のポケモンが大好きなみなさんに、私たちの歌が届くのが楽しみです」

佐野愛花「正直、今でも実感できないくらいで。テレビでポケモンの放送を見て、自分たちの曲がエンディングに流れたら、一体どうなっちゃうんだろう…と思っています」

梅田みゆ「ポケモンのように、私たちの楽曲も世界中の方にたくさん愛してもらえるように頑張って歌っていきたいなって思います」


――「キュートなキューたい」の注目ポイントは？

梅田「キャッチーなリズムと歌詞が、一度聴いただけで耳から離れなくて。口ずさみたくなるようなメロディがお気に入りです」

真鍋「歌詞の中に“モンスターボール”とか、アニメとリンクするワードが出てくるんです」

増田「“仲間になろう”とか“世界でひとつ オンリーワンの旅に出よう”みたいに、歌詞がポケモンの物語とリンクしていて」

板倉「「歌詞にアニメのセリフも入っているので、そのシーンを観て『これ歌詞と一緒だ！』と感動しました。アニメも歌も繋がっているという楽しさもあります」

川本「“きっと未来は輝いている”とか“どんな困難も越えていけ”とか、夢を追う人の背中を押す言葉がたくさん出てきて、夢を追いかける子供たちや、今の自分たちを応援してくれるような素敵な歌詞がお気に入りです」

佐野「最初の音にも注目です。歌詞や音や振付、いろんなところにポケモンの要素が散りばめられているんです」

古澤「振付も“モンスターボール”を投げるような動きとかあって」

板倉「「モンスターボールの振付には結構こだわりました。実際にモンスターボールを持っているように見えるかどうか、みんなで大きさを揃えたり、手首をつけて開いたり、何度も何度も練習しました。小さな子どもたちにも一緒に踊ってほしいです」

――ポケモンの好きなキャラクターや、印象的な思い出は？

真鍋「ミジュマルが好きです。小さい頃に一目惚れしました」

古澤「マホイップがかわいくて好きです」

川本「子どもの頃はポッチャマとルカリオが好きでした。最近はホゲータにメロメロです。リザードンに憧れて目をキラキラさせてるところがかわいくて」

佐野「ポッチャマが好きで、絵描き歌に合わせていろんなところに自信満々でポッチャマの絵を描いていました」

増田「エモンガが好きです。表情がコロコロ変わるのが可愛すぎて、癒されています」

板倉「「小さい頃はミミロルが好きでした。あと、シェイミが出てきた映画（『劇場版ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド&パール ギラティナと氷空の花束 シェイミ』）に感動して泣きながら観たのを覚えています。最近は、ニャオハのツンデレで気分屋な感じがかわいくて。嫉妬して、わかりやすく態度に出るところが、たまらなく愛らしいです」

桜庭「ウパーが好きです。ポケモンのゲームで捕まえた時に一目惚れして、相棒に設定してました。あと、『ポケモン音楽祭』でピッピに会ってメロメロになりました」

梅田「私の名前“みゆ”と似ているので、“幻のポケモン”ミュウが好きです。ニンフィアもかわいくてずっと好き。『ポケモン音楽祭』ではゼニガメが私についてきて気になっちゃったので、ゲームの相棒にしようかなと思いました」

――みなさんが所属するアイドルプロジェクトKAWAII LAB.は「原宿から世界へ」をコンセプトに活動されていますが、今年3月には韓国の音楽番組「M COUNTDOWN」に出演し韓国でも大ブレイク、さらに世界中で人気の「ポケモン」エンディングテーマを担当と、まさに“世界へ”大きく前進中。そんなCUTIE STREETの現状と野望は？

真鍋「SNSにも韓国語のコメントが明らかに増えました。みなさんのメッセージを読めるように、最近は韓国語レッスンなど個人で勉強をしています。韓国での反響が“第一歩”になったと思うので、世界中の方々に楽曲を聴いてもらえるよう活動していきたいです」

川本「韓国でライブをした時に、カラフルな衣装とかビジュアルとか“ジャパニーズアイドルのかわいい”を評価されたのかなと感じて、私たちの“かわいい”や、日本のアイドル文化が間違ってなかったんだなと自信を持てました。私たちの“かわいい”を大切にしつつ、全力で届けていくことで、日本のアイドルの魅力が世界へ繋がるのかなと思います。その一歩になるようにこれからも頑張っていきたいです」
