While currently on an interview and promotional tour in the United States for the upcoming Pokémon Black and White games, GameFreak Director Junichi Masuda revealed to 1UP that the rumor that originated on IGN about Pokémon Black & White having additional features if played on the Nintendo 3DS was not correct.

"Other than just being able to play the game normally, there's nothing special if you use a 3DS." Masuda confirmed in an interview at Nintendo's office in Redwood City on February 15th, 2011.

Masuda also posted pictures of his visit to the Pokémon Black and White Version Tour at Westfield Oakridge in San Jose, California on his Director's blog on the GameFreak Director's Column blog.

Take Turns with Rotation Battles!

Rotation Battles are a brand-new way to compete against other Trainers in Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version. In this new style of battle, each opponent chooses three Pokémon. Only one Pokémon from each side is battling at any given time, but players can choose to rotate another Pokémon into action during their turn. That Pokémon can then attack on the same turn! Although you choose three Pokémon at the start, only one of those Pokémon will be battling each round. There are additional buttons on the Touch Screen to rotate Pokémon when you are choosing your moves. Before issuing any other commands, you can choose to swap your battling Pokémon with one to the left or right of it. Be alert in case your opponent's Pokémon has an advantage over yours. Rotate a different Pokémon into battle to turn the tables! Watch out—your opponent can do the same thing back to you when it's his or her turn!

Feb 06 2011 Pokémon Smash 18
Episode PicturePokémon Smash Episode 18, Get Pokémon! / 'Immersed in Pokémon Life', starring Group member Akiyama, who is Ignorant About All New Pokémon but Monmen / Group Member Akiyama Engages in a Pokemon Battle with a New Move Attached! (ポケモン ゲットだぜ! / 新ポケモンはモンメンしか知らない秋山隊員の「ポケモンづけ生活」/ 新わざを身につけた秋山隊員がポケモンバトル!), aired on Sunday in Japan.

The episode began with the entire Pokémon Smash crew walking on the set while Akiyama in a Pikachu jumpsuit was sitting at his desk already playing on his Nintendo DS and eating Rice Cakes. The cast asks him what he is doing and he then offers them some of his rice cakes but Golgo quickly refuses.

Golgo introduces this weeks rerun episode as part of the Pokémon Library and he also announces this weeks theme, Chemistry is Important (相性が大切). This weeks rerun episode was Get Pokémon! (ポケモン ゲットだぜ!) from the the original series. A full summary of that episode is available in the episode guide. Red said the go-to line 'OK! Pokémon Library!' to start the repeat episode.

Returning from the repeat episode, Yamamoto explains that Akiyama is deep into playing Pokémon Black and White after being humiliated on last weeks show for his lack of knowledge about the games. The VTR begins and the narrator reminds people about the fact that Pokémon Black and White being released, Pokémon Best Wishes being release and a bunch of new Pokémon all being announced in 2010. Various clips were shown to show just how little Akiyama actually knew about all the new stuff and it concluded with a clip of Akiyama being beat by Misaki in a Pokémon battle during Pokémon Smash #7.

On November 25th, 2010, Akiyama showed up for a meeting with his other Robert group members to discuss Pokémon Black and White. Yamamoto and Baba were both mad at him because at that time he only had 2 badges, only seen 26 Pokémon in his dex and only played for a total of 11:46. Baba then pointed out that the games came out on September 18th, 2010 but Akiyama didn't even start playing until October 12th, 2010. Yamamoto then started doing a Pokémon flip card to see how many of the new 5th generation Pokémon Akiyama could identify. He just tried to avoid having to do so.

Yamamoto then revealed to Akiyama that it was time for him to do another 'Immersed in Pokémon Life' (ポケモンづけ生活!!). Akiyama did a similar task a few months after Pokémon Diamond and Pearl was released and it was showcased on Pokémon Sunday #130.

Akiyama's first task was to 'Memorize all the names and types in the Isshu Pokémon Zukan' (イッシュ図鑑のポケモンの名前とタイプを すべておぼえる). His second task was to 'Get all 8 badges in the game' (ゲームでバッジを8個すべてゲットする). Baba and Yamamoto took Akiyama to the Pokémon Room where it was all decked out with 5th generation information and posters. Baba and Yamamoto then left Akiyama to do his two tasks. Akiyama changed into his Pikachu outfit and ate some Pokémon Noodles (ポケモンヌードル).

victiniThe official Nintendo Press site has posted a press release indicating that the North American Victini Event will start on the same day that Pokémon Black and White Versions launch in North America. Below is the full press release.

Press Release
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are giving Pokémon™ fans yet another reason to get revved up for the March 6 launch of the Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version video games for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems. Consumers who purchase either of the new games between launch and April 10 will be able to receive a special Liberty Pass via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection (broadband Internet access required), which will enable them to catch the never-before-seen Mythical Pokémon Victini™.

Victini - the Victory Pokémon - is the first Pokémon that's Psychic- and Fire-type and cannot be obtained through normal game play. It is said that Victini creates an unlimited supply of energy, which it shares with others. This energy source may be the secret to how it brings about victories. Victini's unique and exclusive Victory Star ability not only increases its own accuracy in battle, but also boosts the accuracy of all a player's Pokémon in battle. Victini is a must-have in any Pokémon battle, and is especially useful in Triple Battles, which debut in Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version.

Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version include more than 150 never-before-seen Pokémon that players can catch, train and battle as they progress through the game. Both games are now available for pre-order from major retailers throughout the United States for a suggested retail price of $34.99 each. A deposit may be required for pre-orders. See individual retailers for details.

gamrFeed by VGChartz is reporting that the Pokémon Black and White pre-order sales total has hit 759,252 units 6 weeks before launch. 155,122 pre-orders were purchased this week. On August 22nd, 2010, approximately a month before launch of Pokémon Black and White in Japan, there was 1.08 million pre-orders of the games making them the fastest DS games to a million pre-orders. With a couple weeks to go before that same '1 month till launch' milestone, the American pre-orders of Pokémon Black and White are on approximately the same pace that the Japanese pre-orders were on and could possibly end up beating that record.

To help spur on pre-order sales, Toy'R'Us has announced that people who pre-order Pokémon Black and White from them will receive a free Reshiram or Zekrom Wall Cling when they pick up their reserved copy in stores. Toy'R'Us is charging $5 for pre-orders.

In an article by Kat Bailey posted on 1up.com on January 31st, 2011, Nintendo of America's localization coordinator Joel Simon explained that Dream World will not be available when Pokémon Black and White launch in March. Below are portions of that article pertaining to the Dream World launch.

Pokémon Black/White: How a Pokemon Comes to America

When Pokémon Black and White arrived in Japan late last year, it brought a few intriguing new features to the table. They included new IR functionality that dramatically streamlined battling and trading; the ability to upload Pokémon into a digital cloud called the "Dream World"; and passive wi-fi functionality that allowed commuters to peek into other games and pass around stat boosts.

Nintendo is looking to Japan for inspiration in other ways as well. Last year, the God Pokémon Arceus was distributed via the Dream World following a fan poll, and the American branch may also do the same. GameStop and Toys 'R Us also figure in the equation, with the former currently in the process of releasing special versions of Entei, Raikou and Suicune that can be used to unlock the new Pokémon Zoroark.

And then there are the new online features, which figure to have even more appeal to western audiences than those in Japan. Simon acknowledged as much when I spoke with him, telling me that he expects the Dream World to be more popular in North America than in Japan. It's the Dream World that makes it possible to upload a Pokémon into what amounts to a browser game, with the prizes including Pokémon with special abilities and other perks.

As in Japan though, it looks like the Dream World won't be available at launch. While Simon didn't go into specifics, the assumption is that Nintendo wants time for more stress testing to avoid a repeat of the Japan launch, where the servers were immediately hammered into oblivion.

"It's currently scheduled to launch in the spring," Simon told me, which suggests that the Dream World will launch around a month after Black and White arrive in North America.

Four Seasons of Pokémon!

As you progress through your journey, the seasons of the Unova region will change. You'll see the trees and flowers grow and blossom in the spring and summer, then fade again in autumn and winter. Some Pokémon show up more or less frequently depending on the season. The season changes after a month. Be sure to search areas you visited over and over again as the seasons change. In spring all of the flowers are in bloom. With the warm summer comes a new look to some areas. Autumn is the time when trees change color and begin to lose leaves. In winter, the cool air blows through the Unova region. There are some areas around the region you normally can't reach. But in the winter when the snow piles up these areas become accessible.

Since Professor Red won the last vote, he got to choose another episode for this vote. He chose Metamon and the Copycat Girl (メタモンとモノマネむすめ) from the original series for this vote. He was up against Yamamoto who chose Perap and the Pokémon Comedian! (ペラップとポケモン漫才!) from Advanced Generation as his vote selection. Like the previous vote, viewers could vote for the episode on the official Pokémon Smash website. The tally was revealed by Shoko-tan. Throughout Pokémon Sunday, Robert potrayed may characters but as Zoroark, Baba and Akiyama stood waiting they did not know who to expect to showup. Suddenly they hear a voice in the distance and Handsome Yamamoto reveals himself. Together they all head off to the Tokyo Pokémon Center where they see a Pokémon Center staff member outside the building looking a bit worried. Handsome Yamamoto approaches the girl who explains that the Tabunne supposed to come and help out in the shop isn't there yet (お店のおうえんに来てくれるはずのタブンネがなかなか来ない). Handsome Yamamoto tells her its will be all right and quickly runs into the Pokémon Center.

Moments later Tabunne shows up in the Pokémon Center. In both the anime and the games, Handsome is the master of disguise and uses costumes to blend in so that he isn't discovered when he goes undercover. Handsome Yamamoto on the other hand still has a bit of work to do to live up to his counterpart. Baba and Yamamoto watch Handsome Yamamoto Tabunne walk around the Pokémon Center and interact with the patrons. Baba quickly points out that the face looks bad.

It is quickly apparant that Handsome Yamamoto Tabunne's appeal isn't very good as many of the children find him a bit frightening. He then decides to talk to the children in English saying: "Hello!" and "Thank you!" while getting pictures taken. He also solved a rubik's cube but the kids didn't seem to impressed with that skill. Suddenly, the real Pokémon Center Tabunne appeared and all the kids flocked to it. Realizing that the real Tabunne appeared Handsome Yamamoto Tabunne told the Pokémon Center Tabunne to go away (あっちに行け) otherwise it was going to blow his cover and called the other one the fake (ニセモノ) Tabunne. Akiyama and Baba appear and reveal Handsome Yamamoto.

Their next stop is a park where they meet a woman who was supposed to have a children's sketching tournament but the statue of 'The Thinker' was wrecked. Handsome Yamamoto tells her it will be okay and he runs off. Moments later the kids arrive ready to sketch and the girl reveals the 'statue' which is actually Handsome Yamamoto. After a little while, Handsome Yamamoto has a hard time staying still and the paint was starting to flake. Baba and Akiyama appear and try to get Handsome Yamamoto to reveal himself by rubbing the paint off and then the kids put wax tape on his legs to rip the hair off. Finally the kids reveal him by washing the paint off with water.

Back at the studio, Handsome Yamamoto states tha he is in Pokémon Enterprise but the staff doesn't see him anywhere. They begin searching for him and finally Maria thinks she's spotted him and sits on Shoko-tan's desk which had been replaced by Handsome Yamamoto dressed as her desk. Maria, Baba and Akiyama begin kicking him and he finally reveals himself. Handsome Yamamoto then announced that Handsome will be appearing in an upcoming episode of Pocket Monsters Best Wishes with Professor Araragi.

NEW ONLINE WORLD AWAITS PLAYERS OF POKÉMON BLACK VERSION AND POKÉMON WHITE VERSION VIDEO GAMES

Pokémon Global Link Extends Game Play Experience Online and Gives Trainers

New Ways to Communicate, Interact with Pokémon, and Earn Worldwide Ratings

BELLEVUE, WA - January 27th, 2011 - Players of Pokémon™ video games have always enjoyed communicating with others, and the newest Pokémon titles launching March 6th-Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version- will make it even easier to interact with fellow Pokémon Trainers from all over the world! The Pokémon Global Link web site, launching this spring after the new Pokémon video games hit shelves, will give players the ability to sync their game play from their Nintendo DS™ systems to PCs via the Internet, and access customizable web-only content, befriend additional Pokémon, communicate with fellow Pokémon Trainers, earn and view Worldwide Battle Ratings, and more. Pokémon Global Link offers a seamless play experience across both platforms-activities players do online will be reflected in their Nintendo DS games. Players will log onto Pokémon Global Link using their Pokémon Trainer Club accounts, which can be easily obtained for free at www.pokemon.com.

Pokémon Global Link features three main components that enhance the Pokémon video game experience online. The Pokémon Dream World features all-new ways to interact with Pokémon in a customizable web-only setting, featuring mini games and scenarios that enable Pokémon and items to be transferred back into the Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version video game. The Global Battle Union allows players to keep track of their battle record against other players around the world and provides players a Worldwide Rating and an opportunity to compete in live events. Pokémon Global Link will also house the Pokémon Global Trade Station, launching later this year, giving players the ability to track Pokémon trades all over the world.

For the first time, video game players will enjoy the world of Pokémon online in the Pokémon Dream World. This new area in the Pokémon Global Link web site comes alive after you tuck a Pokémon into bed using the Game Sync feature of Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version. You can then enter that Pokémon's dream online. Inside the Pokémon Dream World, players can customize their Pokémon's home, grow Berries, and befriend other Pokémon by playing various mini games. Players can bring Pokémon they've befriended and items they've found back into their copy of Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version. Pokémon transferred from the Pokémon Dream World can even be trained for battle! Pokémon Trainers will also be able to communicate and share items with other players exploring the Pokémon Dream World.

After registering with Pokémon Global Link, players will also gain access to the Rating Mode in the Global Battle Union. Players will be able to earn a Worldwide Rating, which is calculated based on a player's battle score, and see where they stack up against Pokémon Trainers from all over the world. Aside from bragging rights within the Global Battle Union, top-performing players may qualify for invitations to live regional and national tournaments in the Pokémon Video Game Championship series for the opportunity to advance to the Pokémon World Championships in San Diego, California, in August.

"Pokémon Global Link will introduce brand-new ways to play Pokémon that enhance what players love most about the games-battling, trading and collecting Pokémon," said J.C. Smith, director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokémon Company International. "Giving players the ability to interact with Pokémon and other Pokémon Trainers online deepens the game's play experience and connects players from all over the world like never before."
