New Pokémon Trading Card Game Online Offers 24-Hour Battling, Sanctioned Tournaments, Customizable Features, and More for Players Worldwide

BELLEVUE, WA-March 10, 2011-Pokémon fans can soon play the Pokémon TCG with anyone, anytime, anywhere, simply by turning on their computers. Expanding on the recently introduced Pokémon Trainer Challenge, The Pokémon Company International announced today the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online, a player-versus-player TCG, launching in fall 2011 for anyone looking to battle 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from the convenience of their PC. Pokémon TCG Online is a fully immersive online game using virtual Pokémon TCG cards that players can collect, trade, and use to battle with others just like in the real world!

When Pokémon TCG Online launches later this year at www.pokemontcg.com, players will already have two ways to collect virtual Pokémon TCG cards, ensuring they are ready for battle online. The recently announced Pokémon Trainer Challenge, launching in April, will give players access to three free virtual Pokémon TCG pre-constructed decks that will be transferable into Pokémon TCG Online. New and seasoned Pokémon TCG players can also prepare for online battles against other players by purchasing physical cards -the three Pokémon TCG: Black & White theme decks, which are available April 6th, include a code that unlocks a virtual deck for play in the Pokémon Trainer Challenge and Pokémon TCG Online. The more virtual cards players collect, the easier it will be to create a strong deck for battle!

To help manage virtual Pokémon TCG cards for easy sorting, trading, and showcasing while ensuring a customizable, in-depth TCG play experience, a unique Collection Management Tool will provide players easy point-and-click access to their collections. Additionally, Pokémon TCG Online deck-building tools, including an innovative deck-building wizard, will help construct personalized decks that players of all skill levels can call into battle.

“We developed the Pokémon TCG Online to enable fans of the Pokémon TCG to play against opponents worldwide,” said Andrew Finch, senior director of Online & Community Development at The Pokémon Company International. “Everything Pokémon TCG players love about the game is replicated in a rich, customizable online environment, making it possible to battle when you want and how you want, from training for real-world events to simply battling other TCG players from across the globe.”

Some of the most popular elements of social and casual games are intertwined with the best of TCG game play in Pokémon TCG Online. Similar to the real-world Pokémon TCG community, the trading of digital TCG cards and items in real time will allow players to interact with others while building decks and collecting a wide variety of Pokémon TCG-related items online. Various customizable features and digital items will be available through a special currency system earned through numerous game play scenarios, including officially sanctioned online tournaments staged by The Pokémon Company International. Players can expect the introduction of new items and features frequently.

Individual and community game play statistics will be tracked with ease using three features, including Leveling, which gauges individual playtime to unlock certain features within the game; Ratings, which tracks a player’s games along with any online tournaments entered and won; and Leaderboards, which will post standings for players across various skill levels.

For more information about the upcoming launch of the multiplayer Pokémon TCG Online or to sign up for an opportunity to play the single-player Pokémon Trainer Challenge open beta, please visit www.pokemontcg.com.

Fans can play the single-player Pokémon Trainer Challenge at PAX East, March 11-13 in Boston, MA. To play at home, players need to create a free Pokémon Trainer Club account, easily obtained at www.pokemon.com/us/account/login.

Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version Combine to Sell More Than 1 Million in a Single Day

REDMOND, Wash., March 8, 2011 – Two new Pokémon™ video games went on sale on March 6 and promptly shattered all previous U.S. Pokémon sales records. The Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version games for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems became the fastest-selling Pokémon video games of all time, selling more than 1.08 million units after just one day of availability. That surpasses the previous one-day sales record of more than 780,000 set by the Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version games in April 2007.

"Longtime Pokémon fans are attracted to the new Pokémon, new battle systems and a new region to explore, while newcomers enjoy the ability to jump in and have fun right away," said Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America's senior director of Corporate Communications. "These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems. Already established as the nation's best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience."

Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version feature more than 150 new Pokémon for players to catch, train and battle. The never-before-seen Unova region gives players a whole new world to explore. For the first time in the series, in-game environments change with the four seasons. The games also introduce Triple Battles and Rotation Battles, which give players even more choices when battling.

The official Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version has revealed tons of new information about the upcoming games. Below is all the newly revealed information. With only a week to go till the games launch, a lot of the new information from the games has been revealed. Below is some more new information regarding the games.

The First Gym Leader!

After you leave Accumula Town, the next place to visit is Striaton City. There you'll find Fennel's research facility, as well as the first Pokémon Gym. The Pokémon Gym in Striaton City is a huge building next to the Pokémon Center. Check out the curtain, then step on the symbol that would be most effective against the Pokémon type represented. Make it all the way to the back of the Gym to find the first Gym Leader (and maybe a few friends). Take all the time you need to prepare against the first Gym Leader—the battle will be tough! Beat the Gym Leader to claim the first of eight Gym Badges. You'll need all eight to compete in the Pokémon League! As an additional prize for winning, you'll receive a TM. In Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, you can use TMs as many times as you'd like!

The Wonder Launcher

Before now, you couldn't use items during Link Battles. In Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, the Wonder Launcher will let you do just that! The Wonder Launcher allows you to accumulate a certain number of points each turn, then exchange them for the ability to use items. Players can choose to use the Wonder Launcher at the battle rules setup screen. A new option called Launcher appears on the Touch Screen during battle. Collect points in battle, then spend them on the ability to use items, including HP-recovery items!

Poké Transfer

After you've completed the main story, you can use Poké Transfer to bring Pokémon from other regions into your Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version game. Connect with same-language versions of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver Version to transfer Pokémon into Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version. Then you'll play a mini game to catch Pokémon you transferred. You'll need two Nintendo DS™ systems to use Poké Transfer. After you complete the story, you can visit the Poké Transfer Lab. In the mini game, the Pokémon jumps from shrub to shrub. Throw Poké Balls at the Pokémon to catch it! The Pokémon you catch with Poké Transfer will join your party.

Ride the Battle Subway

Looking for a new challenge that will test your Pokémon battling skills? Take a ride on the Battle Subway, a new facility dedicated to giving Trainers tough battles! You can board the Single Train, Double Train, or Multi Train, and in each car you'll face a new opponent. If you win seven battles in a row, you'll earn Battle Points that you can exchange for a variety of prizes! And if you keep winning long enough, an extraordinarily tough Trainer called the Subway Boss will appear...

pic

Visit the Gear Station, where you can choose which train you wish to board. There's no turning back once you board the train! Prepare for consecutive battles against powerful Trainers! While in the Battle Subway, all Pokémon have their level set to Level 50 temporarily. If you win, you'll move on to the next car, where another Trainer awaits. If you win seven battles in a row, the train will reach the station, and you'll receive Battle Points. Spend the Battle Points you've earned on items that can help you in battle!

If you manage to win 20 battles in a row against the tough Trainers in the Battle Subway, you'll be rewarded with an even greater challenge: You'll face one or both of the Subway Bosses on your 21st battle! If you're taking the Single Train, you'll face Ingo, a strong Trainer dressed in brown and black. If you are riding the Double Train, you'll encounter Emmet, who is wearing a brown and white coat. And if you are on the Multi Train, be prepared to face both Ingo and Emmet at the same time!

Use Pass Power in the Entralink!

Visit the Entralink to communicate with other players. It's a large area with a variety of places to check out, including the Entree in the center. When you connect with other players via Entralink, you can use Pass Powers to bestow useful effects on the other players. In fact, when you use a Pass Power, it will affect all nearby players. But you need Pass Orbs to use Pass Powers, and to get those, you must complete a mission in another player's world! After traveling to the Entralink, cross the bridge to visit other players' worlds. Examine the Entree in another player's world to accept a mission. You can choose from a wide variety of missions! Most of the missions require you to meet and help the player whose world you're currently visiting. Once you complete a mission, you'll receive Pass Orbs, and your Entree will gain a level. As your Entree gains levels, it will grow! When you complete a mission, you'll get Pass Orbs that you can spend on Pass Powers. Some Pass Powers have incredible effects, but they only last for a short while. Look for Pass Powers that double the Exp. Points earned in battle, or make all items cost half as much as usual!

JAKKS Pacific Press Release

Pokémon™, one of the top kids’ entertainment brands over the past decade, is set to have a blockbuster year in 2011. To coincide with the launch of the much-anticipated Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version video games for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems and the new TV animation series, Pokémon: Black & White, JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (Nasdaq: JAKK) is set to introduce a brand new toy line aimed to bring to life the experience of a Pokémon Trainer: to catch, train and battle Pokémon in the quest to becoming a Pokémon Champion.

The comprehensive and innovative new toy line from JAKKS is slated to include an all new Skill & Action line of toys for older kids, which allows them to “Catch,” “Train,” & “Battle” their Pokémon in unique, interactive and competitive toy-based experiences. JAKKS will also launch new figures and plush featuring all new Pokémon characters, playsets that emulate the new Unova region, and “Trainer” role play items inspired by the TV series.

The JAKKS™ Pokémon toy line, which is expected to hit retailers in May 2011, is based on three core ways kids want to play Pokémon: Skill & Action Play, Action Figure Play and Trainer Role Play.

Skill & Action Play! One of the featured products in this line is the innovative new Pokémon Pop ‘N Battle Launcher and Target (SRP $9.99). The Poké Ball Launcher pops open and reveals a 1” figure on a sliding base. Kids can then launch this figure into battle across the table towards an attack target. If a successful attack is launched, the unique target will then snap closed on the figure. The side of the attack target that lands face up then determines the strength and effectiveness of each attack and ties into a larger game play experience. The Pokémon Pop ‘N Battle Rivalry Pack (SRP $19.99) sets the stage for a 2-person battle and includes 2 Pop ‘N Battle Launchers, 2 Attack Targets and 2 Figures. It also includes a bonus of 2 Battle Clips for on-the-go play and 2 Battle Meters to track the competition against your friends. The Pokémon Catcher (SRP $12.99) allows kids to catch Pokémon using a unique, retractable Poké Ball that captures Pokémon micro figures and allows them to play out what a Pokémon trainer would do. It comes with 3 micro figures and also a special base that allows the figures to work with the Pop ‘N Battle Launcher line.

Action Figure Play! Products in this line include Pokémon 3” Figures (SRP $5.99); Pokémon 5”-7” Deluxe Figures (SRP $12.99); Pokémon 3” Attack Figures (SRP $7.99) which come with a shooting attack base that brings to life the attack of that Pokémon type (e.g. Electric, Grass, Water) and can shoot attack disks over 6 feet; and the Pokémon City Battle Playset (SRP $19.99) which is inspired by the new Unova region from Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version and sets up a Pokémon battle in the city. This includes an Attack Figure with base and 4 shooting disks as well as a unique motorized target base that works with all 3” figures. Figures pop off the target base when kids successfully aim and shoot their attack disks at the target.

Trainer Role Play! Products in the line include Pokémon 5” Mini Plush (SRP $6.99); Pokémon 7”-8” Reversible Plush (SRP $ 12.99) that transforms from a Poké Ball into a Pokémon; Pokémon Throw Poké Ball (SRP $10.99) with a mini Pokémon plush inside that launches out to battle when released by the Trainer; and the Pokémon Soft Poké Ball (SRP $1.99) featuring all the different types of Poké Balls. Ages 5+

Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version launches in the U.S. on March 6 as one of the most anticipated video game releases of the year, introducing players to a brand-new world with more than 150 never-before-seen Pokémon featured in an all new adventure. The games’ release in Japan last September shattered all existing sales records in the country, making them the fastest-selling Nintendo DS games in history with 5 million copies sold to date (Famitsu, Jan. 2011). The toy line release will coincide with a new animated series and feature film on Cartoon Network, and trading card game expansion, Pokémon TCG: Black & White.

The official Pokémon website has announced the initial details for the upcoming 2011 Pokémon Video Game Championship series. This years championships will be played exclusively on Pokémon Black and White Versions, so all previous games will not be allowed. Below is the press release with the details.

Join players from around the world and get ready to compete in the 2011 Pokémon Video Game Championship series! The series starts this spring and consists of multiple events across the United States and Europe—events where anyone can compete. Top players from the National Championships will be invited to the Pokémon Video Game World Championships, taking place this August in San Diego, California!

Here’s a quick snapshot of the major changes you’ll see at the 2011 Pokémon Video Game Championship competitions.

All of the events will be played exclusively on Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, which will launch in early March. Players will be limited to Pokémon from the Unova Pokédex only, and no two Pokémon on a player’s team can have the same Pokédex number.

Players will compete in one of three age divisions, based on their date of birth:
  • Junior Division: Born in 2000 or later
  • Senior Division: Born in 1996, 1997, 1998, or 1999
  • Masters Division: Born in 1995 or earlier

Each battle will use the Double Battle rules. Players may register 4–6 Pokémon at the beginning of the tournament. Before the start of each battle, players will select 4 Pokémon to use that round, with two Pokémon active at once.

During each battle, all Pokémon will be capped at Level 50. Any Pokémon that is Level 51 or higher will temporarily be reduced to Level 50 for the duration of each battle. Pokémon that are Level 49 or lower will not be raised to Level 50. Pokémon retain all moves they’ve learned, regardless of when they were learned.

Look out for more details after the release of Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version!
