Press Release - Pokémon GO to Celebrate Pokémon Trading Card Game: Pokémon GO Expansion Launch with Themed In-Game Events

June 6, 2022 — In celebration of the upcoming launch of the Pokémon Trading Card Game: Pokémon GO expansion from The Pokémon Company International, Trainers will be able to experience new in-game events in the Pokémon GO app that are inspired by this special collaboration.

These themed in-game events will take place from June 16, 2022, to June 30, 2022, and will include the following.

  • Trainers will have the opportunity to catch a Pikachu wearing a Pokémon TCG-themed hat in the Pokémon GO app. This Pikachu can also be found in Pokémon GO booster packs.
  • Mewtwo will appear in five-star raids in the Pokémon GO app, and Mewtwo V will be featured in the Pokémon GO expansion with special artwork inspired by raids.
  • Wimpod and Golisopod will make their debut in the Pokémon GO app, as both Pokémon also appear in the Pokémon GO expansion.

In addition, Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO products will contain promo codes that can be redeemed for various in-game avatar items, such as a hat and T-shirt combo that matches Pikachu’s Pokémon TCG-themed hat. Promo codes will be valid from July 17, 2022, to July 31, 2024, and can be redeemed at https://nianticlabs.com/tcg-code.

Trainers will also be able to collect and play with cards showcasing the beloved Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle — plus their Evolutions — as part of the upcoming expansion. Just as Shiny Venusaur, Shiny Charizard and Shiny Blastoise can be encountered in the world of Pokémon GO, these Pokémon will appear as Radiant Venusaur, Radiant Charizard and Radiant Blastoise in the Pokémon TCG with powerful attacks and Abilities.

Available at participating retailers around the world starting on July 1, 2022, the Pokémon GO expansion features cards with photorealistic artwork and unique gameplay scenarios inspired by the popular mobile game.

A Pokémon GO in-game event taking place June 16, 2022, to June 30, 2022, will provide Pokémon fans the opportunity to celebrate the new Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO expansion while playing. During the event, Pokémon featured in the expansion will appear in the wild and in raids. Throughout the Pokémon TCG Crossover Event, Mewtwo will be appearing in five-star raids. A Mewtwo V card in the expansion depicts the Genetic Pokémon descending from the sky among tall buildings, implying that a raid may be about to begin with the Trainers below. Wimpod and Golisopod make an appearance in the expansion, too, and they'll be making their Pokémon GO debuts during this time to commemorate the occasion.

Early Pokémon from Pokémon GO Appear

Some of the earliest Pokémon that could be caught when Pokémon GO debuted in 2016 show up in the Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO expansion. Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and their Evolutions boast powerful attacks and Abilities, as well as dynamic, colorful artwork. Much of the art shows recognizable moments from Pokémon GO—Ivysaur, for example, is depicted gathering with several other Pokémon around a PokéStop equipped with a Lure Module.

Radiant Pokémon Shine Bright in Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO

Experience a similar joy to encountering Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO with Radiant Pokémon in the new expansion. Radiant Venusaur, Radiant Charizard, and Radiant Blastoise are as stunning as they are powerful. They're so impressive, in fact, that players can have only one in their deck at any given time. Featuring devastating attacks and useful Abilities, Radiant Pokémon bring a beautiful aesthetic to the gaming table.

The first products in the Pokémon GO expansion arrive on July 1, 2022. When the expansion becomes available, keep an eye out for codes that can be redeemed in exchange for useful items in Pokémon GO, including special avatar items celebrating the collaboration. You'll be able to redeem these codes even after the Pokémon TCG Crossover Event has concluded.

New Characters and Pokémon

Professor Sada and Professor Turo
Image Image

For the first time, one of two different professors will appear in the game depending on which version players choose. In Pokémon Scarlet, players will meet Professor Sada, and in Pokémon Violet, players will meet Professor Turo. Each professor is carrying out research into lore passed down in the region.

Nemona

Image

Nemona has a sunny, energetic disposition and is passionate about Pokémon battles. She’s an experienced Pokémon Trainer and serves as a friend and reliable guide for players on their adventures.

On their journey, players will encounter many never-before-seen Pokémon, and among them are the following three, which Nemona uses on her team.

Pawmi

Image

In addition to the electric sacs in its cheeks, Pawmi has electricity-discharging organs on its forepaws. It generates electricity by rubbing its cheeks, then it shocks its opponents by touching them with the pads on its forepaws.

The fur that covers its body is good insulation against the cold and serves the purpose of storing electricity. When it feels uneasy, this cautious Pokémon will begin rubbing its cheeks, preparing itself to discharge an electric shock.

  • Category: Mouse Pokémon
  • Type: Electric
  • Height: 1'
  • Weight: 5.5 lbs.
  • Ability: Static / Natural Cure

Lechonk

Image

Lechonk uses its sense of smell to find and eat only the most fragrant wild grasses and the richest Berries. As a result of its dining habits, it has come to radiate an aroma resembling herbs that Bug-type Pokémon dislike. If attacked by an opponent and startled, it will charge forward in a panic.

It may appear fat at first glance, but in reality, the Pokémon’s body is mostly muscle built by constantly walking around in search of food.

  • Category: Hog Pokémon
  • Type: Normal
  • Height: 1'8"
  • Weight: 22.5 lbs.
  • Ability: Aroma Veil / Gluttony

Smoliv

Image

The oil that comes out of its head has a very strong bitter taste, and it is not suitable for consumption.
When startled or attacked, Smoliv will shoot this oil out, slowing its opponent down. It will then seize that moment to run away.

In the fruit on its head, Smoliv stores oil made from nutrients it gathers through photosynthesis. As a result, it can go for a week without eating or drinking. It prefers dry and sunny climates, and it seems to spend its days sunbathing.

  • Category: Olive Pokémon
  • Type: Grass/Normal
  • Height: 1'
  • Weight: 14.3 lbs.
  • Ability: Early Bird

New Details about First Partner Pokémon

New insights on Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly—the three Pokémon from which players will choose their first partner Pokémon—have been revealed.

Sprigatito

Image

Capricious and attention seeking, it may sulk if it sees its Trainer giving attention to a Pokémon other than itself.

When Sprigatito kneads and rubs with its forepaws, a sweet aroma is released that can mesmerize those around it. This aroma has therapeutic qualities and makes opponents lose their will to battle. The composition of its fluffy fur is similar to plants, letting it create energy by absorbing sunlight. It adds moisture to its fur by grooming itself, which aids its ability to photosynthesize.

  • Category: Grass Cat Pokémon
  • Type: Grass
  • Height: 1'4"
  • Weight: 9 lbs.
  • Ability: Overgrow

Fuecoco

Image

Fuecoco is laid-back and does things at its own pace. It loves to eat, and it will sprint toward any food it finds with a glint in its eye.

External heat is absorbed by the square scales on Fuecoco’s stomach and back, then converted into fire energy. These scales are always warm, and at times they can also grow very hot. Flickering atop Fuecoco’s head is fire energy that is leaking out from inside the Pokémon’s body. When Fuecoco gets excited, its head spouts more flames.

  • Category: Fire Croc Pokémon
  • Type: Fire
  • Height: 1'4"
  • Weight: 21.6 lbs.
  • Ability: Blaze

Quaxly

Image

This serious-mannered Pokémon will follow in its Trainer’s wake. Quaxly is tidy, and it especially dislikes getting its head dirty.

Its body is always glossy because the gel secreted by its feathers repels water and grime. The coif on its head is slicked back using a rich, moist cream, and it becomes unkempt when dry. It has strong legs and can swim without difficulty even in places with strong currents. In battle, it kicks its opponents swiftly and repeatedly.

  • Category: Duckling Pokémon
  • Type: Water
  • Height: 1'8"
  • Weight: 13.4 lbs.
  • Ability: Torrent

Koraidon and Miraidon

Image Image
Koraidon | Miraidon

Koraidon and Miraidon grace the covers of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, respectively.

Koraidon is a Legendary Pokémon you can meet in Pokémon Scarlet, and Miraidon is a Legendary Pokémon you can meet in Pokémon Violet. These two Pokémon are said to have powers that far surpass those of other Pokémon, but details about Koraidon and Miraidon are still shrouded in mystery.
The Licensing Expo 2022 takes place from May 24th, 2022 to May 26th, 2022 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. For more than 40 years, Licensing Expo has connected the world's most influential entertainment, character, art, and corporate brand owners and agents with consumer goods manufacturers, licensees and retailers.

Image

The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) has returned to Licensing Expo following its global 25th anniversary and campaign, which propelled the brand with major collaborations and promotions, such as Levi’s, Converse, Baccarat, McDonald’s, General Mills and OREO. Combined with a massive P25 Music program featuring some of the world’s most well-known artists including Katy Perry, Post Malone and J Balvin, the Pokémon franchise continued its legacy of being at the forefront of popular culture and being sought out for collaboration. In its 25th anniversary year, Pokémon was the top-selling toy property in the US, driven by its popular Pokémon TCG and licensed merchandise.1 Pokémon was also recognized as the License of the Year in 2022 at the annual Toy of the Year Awards.

Stemming from the strength of the Pokémon brand and strong momentum during the anniversary, TPCi is continuing to expand its award-winning licensing programs with partnerships and products that appeal to fans across generations, especially as those who grew up with Pokémon are now parents introducing their children to the brand. Examples include:

  • Toys and Collectibles: Licensees like Jazwares, Mattel, Funko, Build-A-Bear Workshop and The Wand Company are continuing to expand following Pokémon’s 25th anniversary, as partners add more to their growing lineup of official merchandise. For example, this year Mattel will be releasing the new MEGA CONSTRUX Motion Pikachu, which is available to demo at the Pokémon booth at Licensing Expo.
  • Gaming Accessories: Significant growth across the Pokémon TCG and video games has resulted in more product releases from licensees like Ultra PRO and PowerA. Fans can look forward to new Pokémon TCG expansions, such as the Pokémon GO set inspired the popular mobile game launching on July 1, 2022, and the new Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet core RPG titles launching in late 2022.
  • Apparel and Fashion Accessories: Following recently released apparel and accessory collaborations with partners like Irregular Choice, MARKET and Longchamp, TPCi is continuing to expand licensed apparel and accessories to delight fans of all ages in 2022 and beyond, including a new partnership with Hanna Andersson.

In addition, Pokémon Center, the official e-commerce arm of TPCi and premier destination for official Pokémon merchandise in the US, UK and Canada, is continuing to develop its lineup of unique, high-quality products and special collaborations. Espeon Is Now Available in Pokémon UNITE

(Psy)shock your opponents with this Ranged Attacker and its various Psychic-type attacks.

Add some more psychic power to your team now that Espeon has arrived in Pokémon UNITE. For a limited time, you can acquire Espeon's Unite license without spending Aeos gems through a special in-game Espeon event starting May 16, 2022, at 12:00 a.m. PDT. Earn points by logging in, participating in and winning battles, and other in-game activities. You can then redeem Espeon's Unite license once you've earned 2,000 points in this event. This special event ends June 11, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. PDT, at which point Espeon's Unite license will be available at the Unite Battle Committee for 10,000 Aeos coins. You can also receive Espeon's Unite license at any time by exchanging 575 Aeos gems at the Unite Battle Committee.

This Ranged Attacker is ready to take the battle to the opposition with a variety of mind-bending attacks. This Pokémon begins each match as Eevee, of course, and evolves into Espeon upon reaching Lv. 4. Eevee's basic attack becomes a boosted attack with every third attack, dealing increased damage, while Espeon's basic attack becomes a boosted attack after a set amount of time passes, causing Espeon to fire a beam in front of the itself. The beam deals increased damage to opposing Pokémon it hits and decreases their movement speed for a short time.

Eevee starts with the Anticipation Ability, which negates any hindrance that would affect Eevee and causes it to become immune to hindrances for a short time. When Eevee evolves into Espeon, its Ability becomes Magic Bounce, which functions similarly to Anticipation when Espeon would be affected by a hindrance. On top of that, Magic Bounce also deals damage to the opposing Pokémon that attempted to inflict the hindrance on Espeon and temporarily decrease that Pokémon's movement speed. Both Anticipation and Magic Bounce go on a short cooldown after they're triggered.

Eevee and Espeon's Moves

At Lv. 1 and Lv. 2, Eevee can learn Swift and Growl.

Eevee damages opposing Pokémon with Swift by shooting star-shaped rays at them. Using Growl against an opposing Pokémon deals damage to that Pokémon and decreases its movement speed for a short time.

At Lv. 4, Eevee evolves into Espeon, and Swift can be upgraded into Psyshock or Stored Power.

Psyshock has Espeon materialize psychic projectiles that it hurls at a designated location, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon hit by the projectiles and decreasing their movement speed for a short time. If an opposing Pokémon is hit by all of these psychic projectiles, that Pokémon is left unable to act for a short time. This move can be upgraded to increase the speed at which the projectiles travel.

By upgrading Swift to Stored Power, Espeon can unleash blasts of psychic power at random opposing Pokémon in an area of effect, dealing damage to them and decreasing their movement speed for a short time. Espeon stores one blast of psychic power whenever a set amount of time passes, or after it hits an opposing Pokémon with a boosted basic attack, and Espeon can store up to five blasts of psychic power at once. After Espeon uses this move, its movement speed increases for a short time. Stored Power can be upgraded to deal additional damage to opposing Pokémon with a low percentage of remaining HP.

At Lv. 6, Espeon can upgrade Growl into either Psybeam or Future Sight.

Psybeam has Espeon fire a peculiar ray in a designated direction. If the ray hits an opposing Pokémon, it will then split beyond the first Pokémon hit and deal damage to other opposing Pokémon in range. These split rays deal more damage the higher the max HP of the first Pokémon hit by the ray. Furthermore, if the first Pokémon hit by the ray has its movement speed decreased or is unable to act, those same effects will be applied to any Pokémon hit by the split rays. Psybeam can be upgraded to deal additional damage to opposing Pokémon that are unable to act. If Psybeam then splits beyond its initial target, its split rays will deal additional damage to opposing Pokémon they hit and leave unable to act.

There's a lot going on with Espeon's move Future Sight. When Espeon uses it, Espeon locks on to an opposing Pokémon, then deals damage a few seconds later to opposing Pokémon in an area of effect centered on the locked-on Pokémon. More damage is dealt the lower the locked-on Pokémon's remaining HP is. While Espeon is locked on to an opposing Pokémon, its other moves will target that Pokémon whenever possible. Each time one of these moves deals damage, Future Sight's cooldown is reduced.

If the locked-on Pokémon is on the opposing team and is knocked out before the area-of-effect damage is dealt, a single powered-up use of Psyshock or Stored Power becomes available for a short time. When Psyshock is powered up, it hurls stronger psychic projectiles at a designated location that also cause an explosion, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect. When Stored Power is powered up, it unleashes an increased number of psychic power blasts and restores Espeon's HP when the blasts hit.

Finally, Future Sight can be upgraded to allow Espeon to deal increased damage to the opposing Pokémon that Future Sight is locked on to.

Espeon's Unite Move, Psychic Solare

Once Espeon reaches Lv. 8, it learns its Unite Move, Psychic Solare.

This move puts Espeon's psychic prowess on full display as it has Espeon throw opposing Pokémon in the area of effect into the air and suspend them using its psychic power. After a delay, an explosion occurs that deals damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and shoves them.

Your opponents won't know what to expect when Espeon enters the fray. Set your sights on the Espeon event to get Espeon's Unite license.

NEW VERSION OF POKÉMON HOME INTRODUCES MORE GAME COMPATIBILITY

Pokémon HOME enables Trainers to continue their Pokémon adventures beyond a single game system and manage their collection of Pokémon across many of their games. The Pokémon that players can take to each game are limited to the Pokémon that appear in those games. Players can view the details on which Pokémon can be taken to which games from the Help menu of the mobile device version of Pokémon HOME.[2]

Introducing Strange Balls
Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place in the distant past of the world of Pokémon, where Poké Balls from the other games do not yet exist. When Pokémon caught in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Pokémon Shining Pearl, Pokémon Sword, or Pokémon Shield are transferred to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, they will appear in Strange Balls. Strange Balls will only appear in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, and Pokémon Shining Pearl. All Pokémon caught in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that are transferred to Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield will appear in regular Poké Balls.[3]

Strange Ball

In Pokémon HOME, players will be able to see the Poké Balls that Pokémon were originally caught in.

Claim Special Pokémon When Linking Games
To celebrate Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Pokémon Shining Pearl, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus becoming compatible with Pokémon HOME, players will be gifted special Pokémon when linking each game to Pokémon HOME.[4]

If a Pokémon is brought from the game it was caught into another game and learns other moves, and is then brought back to the game it was caught in, it will go back to having the moves that it originally knew.[6]

  • If a Pokédex entry in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is incomplete, you will not be able to see that Pokémon's entry in Pokémon HOME.

Additional Achievements and Stickers
Players can obtain stickers by completing achievements by meeting certain conditions in the mobile device version of Pokémon HOME. New achievements and stickers based on Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, and Pokémon Shining Pearl will be added from version 2.0.0 onwards.

April 28, 2022 — Today, The Pokémon Company International revealed more details about the highly anticipated Pokémon Trading Card Game: Pokémon GO expansion, releasing around the world starting on July 1, 2022.

In this special collaboration inspired by the Pokémon GO app, fans will be able to play with cards featuring photorealistic artwork and unique gameplay scenarios inspired by the beloved mobile title. Certain cards illustrate Pokémon as if they have jumped out into the real world, such as Pikachu walking alongside its Trainer and Snorlax sleeping wherever it pleases, while other cards portray Pokémon in scenes that are familiar to the mobile game, such as Blissey valiantly defending a Gym and Aipom dodging a Poké Ball.

In addition, objects and characters from the world of Pokémon GO will appear as Trainer cards, such as PokéStop as a Stadium card and Lure Module as an Item card, as well as Spark of Team Instinct, Blanche of Team Mystic and Candela of Team Valor as Supporter cards.

Check out the first cards to be revealed from the upcoming Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO expansion. Found in Pokémon GO booster packs, these collectible and powerful cards will attract every type of Pokémon TCG fan! Note that booster packs for this expansion will not be sold separately.

Reminiscent of the Pokémon GO experience, some of the Pokémon appear to have jumped into the real world, such as Pikachu walking alongside its Trainer and Snorlax snoozing on the front porch of a house. Some cards portray Pokémon that have a connection to Pokémon GO, such as the Mythical Pokémon Meltan, who was originally discovered in Pokémon GO. And check out Blissey's illustration to see the Pokémon valiantly defending a Gym.

Trainer cards also pick up the Pokémon GO vibe. The PokéStop Stadium card can find Item cards near the top of the deck every turn. Similarly, the Lure Module Item card lets both players find Pokémon near the top of their deck. And it won't come as a surprise that Candela, Spark, and Blanche, the heads of Team Valor, Team Instinct, and Team Mystic, make their Pokémon TCG debut as Supporter cards. These three also appear as beautiful full-art cards.

Looking to add a little oomph to your deck with cards from the Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO expansion? Mewtwo VSTAR has what you're looking for. Its Star Raid VSTAR Power is an attack that does 120 damage to each of your opponent's Pokémon V, and its Psy Purge attack does up to 270 damage when you discard Psychic Energy from your Pokémon.

One promo card that stands out in multiple ways is Radiant Eevee, which has a stunning visual appearance. But it's also useful in battle, letting you search for up to six cards in your deck with its Twinkle Gathering attack. And since it's a Colorless-type Pokémon, it's easy to slot into pretty much any deck!
