MORE POKÉMON SIGHTED IN POKÉMON SWORD AND POKÉMON SHIELD AND COMING TO THE POKÉMON TRADING CARD GAME

Over 50 Galar Region Pokémon Make Their Pokémon TCG Debut in New Sword & Shield Expansion, Featuring Powerful New Game Mechanic, Pokémon VMAX

logo

The Pokémon Company International also unveiled Sword & Shield, the first new expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game: Sword & Shield Series that is based on the latest video games. Sword & Shield will offer a new type of card and game mechanic called Pokémon VMAX—beautifully illustrated and powerful cards that showcase Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon such as Gigantamax Snorlax. Trainers will be able to collect, trade, and play with Pokémon VMAX when the set launches around the world on February 7, 2020.

POKéMON SWORD AND POKéMON SHIELD

logo

Gigantamax Snorlax
Type: Normal
Height: 114'10"+
Weight: ???
Ability: Immunity / Thick Fat

Thanks to the power of Gigantamax, the Berry seeds and small rocks that were tangled in Snorlax’s belly fur have undergone explosive growth. With a tree sprouting upon its belly, Gigantamax Snorlax has the majesty of a great mountain. Even though it almost never moves, Gigantamax Snorlax is said to be one of the strongest Dynamax Pokémon discovered. When the time comes for it to battle, it lifts its upper body by just a tiny amount and attacks by flailing with its arms and legs—actions that actually pack a tremendous punch. When Snorlax is Gigantamaxed, its Normal-type attacks will be transformed into G-Max Replenish. G-Max Replenish doesn’t just deal damage to targets—it can also restore any Berries that Gigantamax Snorlax’s allies have eaten during the battle.

Gigantamax Snorlax will appear more frequently in Max Raid Battles from Wednesday, December 4, until early January 1. Trainers can check out the Pokémon Dens that dot the Wild Area to battle this gigantic form of Snorlax. A connection to the internet will be required to participate in Max Raid Battles. Connecting their Nintendo Switch system to the internet will automatically enable Trainers to encounter the latest Pokémon appearing in the Wild Area. Players can also achieve the same results manually by opening the X menu in their game, selecting Mystery Gift, and then selecting Get the Wild Area News.

The Evolution of First Partner Pokémon

logo

Thwackey
Category: Beat Pokémon
Type: Grass
Height: 2'4"
Weight: 30.9 lbs.
Ability: Overgrow

Grookey’s Evolution has caused its stick to change as well. The stick has split into two, and it uses them to keep rhythm. To be able to drum faster and longer than anyone else, it devotes itself entirely to its practice with these sticks. Sometimes Thwackey becomes so focused on its practice that it doesn’t even hear the orders of its Trainer. To develop its sense of rhythm, Thwackey keeps the beat alive during its daily life. It walks while swaying back and forth to a beat and drumming with its sticks. Some Thwackey have even been seen to keep rhythm while eating.

logo

Rillaboom
Category: Drummer Pokémon
Type: Grass
Height: 6'11"
Weight: 198.4 lbs.
Ability: Overgrow

As Thwackey evolves, its two sticks develop into two sticks and a stump drum. In battle, Rillaboom unleashes powerful sound waves with its drumming and throws opponents about by controlling the roots of its stump. The skills it honed while it was a Thwackey are put on full display. Rillaboom has a gentle nature and won’t involve itself in trivial fights. However, it is extremely sensitive to any actions that could risk the harmony around it and keeps such actions strictly in check. Rillaboom also has a strong sense of solidarity with others, and it will fight ferociously when its allies are in trouble.

logo

Raboot
Category: Rabbit Pokémon
Type: Fire
Height: 2'
Weight: 19.8 lbs.
Ability: Blaze

The fur that covers Raboot’s body has changed to become more effective against cold weather. This thick fur is also good for controlling the Pokémon’s fire energy, which allows it to unleash its full power in a shorter amount of time. The temperature on its brow and the soles of its feet has increased since evolving, and Raboot uses these areas to deal flaming-hot headbutts and kicks. Favoring the powerful legs it gained through Evolution, Raboot keeps both hands tucked into the thick fur around its waist when it acts. To better train its kicking attacks, Raboot tries not to use its hands at all, which also seems to be effective in keeping it from losing body heat. It’s also not unusual for Raboot to jump high and kick down Berries that grow in tall trees, juggling them on its feet as it eats them.

logo

Cinderace
Category: Striker Pokémon
Type: Fire
Height: 4'7"
Weight: 72.8 lbs.
Ability: Blaze

Cinderace has excellent physical abilities and boasts some of the best skills among all Pokémon when it comes to explosive force, jumping ability, and kicking power. It’s got a strong core and great balance, meaning that it can unleash powerful kicks from any position. Cinderace attacks using a soccer ball made of fire, which it creates by pouring its fire energy into a small stone. It plays with opponents by using its artful footwork—kicking its ball about as it feints this way or that to throw opponents off in their timing or putting a spin on the ball for an attack that’s hard to evade.

logo

Drizzile
Category: Water Lizard Pokémon
Type: Water
Height: 2'4"
Weight: 25.4 lbs.
Ability: Torrent

Drizzile uses its long and dexterous tongue, which is coated in mucus, both for battle and for eating. This tongue is usually kept within its mouth, but when necessary, it can be launched in a quick shot to strike at Drizzile’s prey. It’s only during these moments that this usually lethargic Pokémon demonstrates a shocking degree of focus. Drizzile is a very cautious Pokémon. It sets up numerous traps in the area where it lives, using the Water-type moves it excels in. It also engages in hit-and-run tactics utilizing the landscape around it and devises strategies that take full advantage of its ability to turn invisible when wet.

logo

Inteleon
Category: Secret Agent Pokémon
Type: Water
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 99.6 lbs.
Ability: Torrent

Inteleon’s rail-thin body hides a variety of surprising tricks within it. Its fingertips can fire out water that has been compressed within its body—shooting it out at a speed of Mach 3—to hit opponents where they’re weakest. Inteleon also has special lenses in its eyes and a sharp knife hidden in its tail. These hidden tricks allow it to adapt to any situation. Inteleon possesses great intellect and thinks deeply about things, calmly and deliberately. It is also known for its chivalrous behavior. In battle, it analyzes the weaknesses and habits of its opponents to devise strategies against them. Inteleon also appears to show absolute loyalty to Trainers it has recognized as worthy.

New Details about the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta

logo

Zacian
Category: Warrior Pokémon
Type: Fairy/Steel
Height: 9'2"
Weight: 782.6 lbs.
Ability: Intrepid Sword

Zacian attacks its foes using the sword it grips in its mouth. The sword’s edge is extremely sharp and can tear through the thick scales of Dragon-type Pokémon as if they were paper. Zacian dashes through the battlefield to strike its enemies with the speed of a swift wind. Its graceful movements are beautiful to behold and have been compared to a dance. Zacian’s slashing attacks possess a speed that makes them impossible to see with the naked eye, and those hit by its blade are cut down before they can even feel pain from the blow. With this Steel-type physical move, Behemoth Blade, the sword in Zacian’s mouth grows to gigantic proportions and is used to slice at a target. It is especially strong against Dynamax Pokémon, and the impact of it slams through a Dynamax Pokémon’s body to deal devastating damage. The destructive power of this move is said to be enough to cut the ocean in two.

logo

Zamazenta
Category: Warrior Pokémon
Type: Fighting/Steel
Height: 9'6"
Weight: 1730.6 lbs.
Ability: Dauntless Shield

Zamazenta fends off the attacks of foes by using the golden shield that covers its front. The shield’s strength is so formidable that even the sharp claws of Dragon-type Pokémon cannot leave a single scratch upon it. No battlefield, no matter how terrible, can make Zamazenta flinch in its resolve. It will charge the enemy lines head on to defeat its opponents. Its shield-like armor provides impregnable defense but is also a weapon to be used in powerful attacks. When Zamazenta bashes into opponents with all its might, it’s said that the destructive force is enough to put cracks in the land and that the resulting shock wave can lay waste to hundreds of enemies. With this Steel-type physical move, Behemoth Bash, the winged armor on Zamazenta’s front grows to gigantic proportions and is used to bash into a target with devastating force. It is especially strong against Dynamax Pokémon, and the impact of it slams right through a Dynamax Pokémon’s body to deal devastating damage. The destructive power of this move is said to be enough to bore straight through towering mountains.

Game Developer Toby Fox, Undertale’s creator and composer, has created a song just for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield! He posted a letter to let people know about the partnership and how it came to be.

Image

A Special Letter and Song from Undertale Game Creator Toby Fox

The indie game creator talks about his musical contribution to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

Toby Fox is a rising star in the world of indie video games, having created the breakout hit Undertale almost entirely on his own. He even composed all the music for it! Undertale caught the eye of the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield developers at GAME FREAK, who invited him to write a song for the upcoming adventure.

We're delighted to share Toby's letter to Pokémon fans about how our partnership with him came to be and about how excited he is to share his latest song. You can even listen to a snippet of the song by clicking the play button at the top of this page!

Toby Fox Letter

Hi everyone! I'm Toby Fox. Have you heard of me before? Well, that's 'cause I just said my name. LOL

Jokes aside, aren't you interested in how all of this happened? Well... OK. I'll tell you, I guess.

Once upon a time, I created an RPG game called UNDERTALE. For one reason or another, it seems a lot of people from GAME FREAK ended up becoming fans of this game.

One day, I noticed Go Ichinose-san, one of the composers for Pokémon, was following me on Twitter, so... I messaged him out of the blue.

Eventually, we became friends and I was able to meet many other people from GAME FREAK, too! After eating sukiyaki with members of the company one day, we went to a cafe. There, I ordered a bottled green tea and selfishly, randomly asked if I could make a song for Pokémon someday...

... they said yes! Right there in the cafe, they immediately told me a concept for a song I could make, and, as I walked home, my heart was burning with inspiration... a melody entered my head, and as I stumbled past salarymen in the dark, I sang it to myself over and over so I wouldn't forget it!

In the end, that song... became the song you can hear in the game!

It's a fierce track full of explosive power. I wanted to show the energy and passion I felt when asked to create a song for Pokémon! Yeahh! Let's get wild, baby!!! Ah, but wait, wait a second. It's the only song I made, and you can't hear it until you beat the game, so... make sure you enjoy GAME FREAK's music properly first, OK!? Adachi-san and Ichinose-san worked hard.... Don't rush through the whole game just to hear my song.... (No one would actually ever do that.)

Oh, and this goes without saying, but it's a huge honor to be allowed to make music for GAME FREAK! I'm so, so happy and thankful I was allowed to do this. So please look forward to the song, and to Pokémon Sword and Shield, as well! Yamper yam yam!

PS - If you like it, please let GAME FREAK know. They might treat me to sukiyaki again. (No one would ever actually do that.)

The Willow Report: Looming in the Shadows has been investigating the Team GO Rocket’s evil plans and now finally the world of Pokémon GO is in peril!

Image

Find the Team GO Rocket Leaders and defeat Giovanni!

Trainers, The world of Pokémon GO is in peril! Team GO Rocket Leaders Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo have made their move and can be encountered by Trainers worldwide! Not only have they caught more Shadow Pokémon and strengthened them through unnatural means—their arrival also confirms a suspicion Professor Willow has held for a while: Giovanni, the boss of both Team GO Rocket and the original Team Rocket, may have arrived in the world of Pokémon GO.

The Team GO Rocket Leaders and Giovanni also seem to be using new technology to conceal the locations of their hideouts. Professor Willow, Spark, Blanche, and Candela have been hard at work developing new devices to counter Team GO Rocket’s new tech, and we ask you to explore the world around you, battle the Team GO Rocket Leaders, and conduct Special Research to find and defeat Giovanni!

  1. Open up your Special Research: Looming in the Shadows — Professor Willow has issued new Special Research for you. By helping Professor Willow, you can track down the villainous Team GO Rocket Leaders and even Giovanni himself.
  2. Find Mysterious Components — Team GO Rocket Grunts may drop Mysterious Components.
  3. Assemble Rocket Radars — The Team GO Rocket Leaders are concealing their locations at PokéStops. By assembling six Mysterious Components, you can create a Rocket Radar. Use the Rocket Radar to scan the area around you for the hideouts of Team GO Rocket Leaders.
  4. Battle the Team GO Rocket Leaders — Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo have made their move, and they’re here to challenge you! Approach the hideouts that you locate with your Rocket Radar, and have your best Pokémon battle parties ready. Defeat the Team GO Rocket Leaders, and rescue their Shadow Pokémon. These Pokémon might have special qualities! Only those with Rocket Radars will be able to detect hideouts and battle Team GO Rocket Leaders. But Trainers can still collaborate—if one Trainer detects a hideout at a particular PokéStop, others can detect the same hideout in the same place.
  5. Complete Special Research to battle Giovanni — By battling Team GO Rocket Grunts, defeating Team GO Rocket Leaders, and proving you’re an accomplished Trainer, you’ll be able to complete research to receive a Super Rocket Radar from Professor Willow. The Super Rocket Radar will help you locate Giovanni! But watch out—some Grunts have figured out what we’re up to. They may pretend to be Giovanni and get in your way! But keep at it, because if you defeat Giovanni, you may be able to rescue Legendary Shadow Pokémon.
How did Professor Willow make these discoveries with the team leaders? Learn about the story in the Willow Report.

With this looming threat in the world of Pokémon GO, we’ll need as many courageous Trainers as possible to help defeat the Team GO Rocket Leaders and Giovanni. Keep an eye out, and keep training! It’s time to give everything we’ve got and put an end to Team GO Rocket’s evil plans! Get out there and GO!

The Pokémon Company and Nintendo announced new information on the upcoming games Pokémon Sword and Shield which will be released on November 15th, 2019. The first official Online Competition for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Galar Beginnings, was also announced. High resolution screenshots from the press release have been added to an Imageboard thread.

INCREASED CHANCE OF GIGANTAMAX POKÉMON ENCOUNTERS, NEW ITEMS, AND MORE REVEALED FOR POKÉMON SWORD AND POKÉMON SHIELD

First Online Competition—Galar Beginnings—Also Announced

Bellevue, WA—November 6, 2019—The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo today announced a specific time period when Trainers will be more likely to encounter certain Gigantamax Pokémon in the highly anticipated upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games. The first Online Competition—Galar Beginnings—and new items and features were also revealed. Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are launching on November 15, 2019, exclusively on Nintendo Switch™ systems.

Increased Chance of Encountering Gigantamax Pokémon
In Max Raid Battles, four Trainers can team up to take on a wild Dynamax Pokémon. In extremely rare cases, a Gigantamax Pokémon can appear instead of a Dynamax Pokémon. Only certain species of Pokémon can Gigantamax—and even among such species, only very rare specimens will be able to.

pic

From Friday, November 15, 2019, until early January 2020, players will be more likely to encounter Gigantamax Butterfree in Max Raid Battles. Gigantamaxing changes a Pokémon’s size, power, and appearance and allows it to use a G-Max Move. A connection to the internet will be required to participate in Max Raid Battles.

New Items and Features for Training Pokémon
New items that will help Trainers raise their Pokémon will be introduced in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

pic

Each Pokémon has a Nature that can impact which of its stats are likely to grow faster or slower than average. Using a Mint on a Pokémon seems to change these stat-growth patterns and will impact which stats of a Pokémon are likely to grow faster than usual. Mints will not change a Pokémon’s Nature.

Special supplements—nutritious drinks like Protein and Iron—raise a Pokémon’s base points, which in turn help raise that Pokémon’s stats. If two Pokémon are of the same species but one has more base points, the Pokémon with more base points will grow stronger. Until now, there has been a limit on how many special supplements could be used on a Pokémon. In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Trainers will be able to max out a Pokémon’s base points using only these supplements.

pic

Normally, Pokémon earn Exp. Points through battling. If a Trainer uses an Exp. Candy, they will be able to give their Pokémon Exp. Points directly. Exp. Candy can be earned in Max Raid Battles.

Sometimes, a Pokémon hatched from an Egg will know unusual moves called Egg Moves. Egg Moves are moves that a Pokémon normally wouldn’t be able to learn through more common means, like leveling up or using TMs. In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, if two Pokémon of the same species are placed at a Pokémon Nursery together, an Egg Move that one them knows can be passed on to the other Pokémon. A Pokémon can only learn an Egg Move in this way when it knows three or fewer moves.

New Features Including Changes to Pokémon Boxes, Autosave Functionality, and Pokémon Nicknames for Traded Pokémon There are many new features that will be introduced in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield that are designed to make a Trainer’s adventure easier to enjoy.

Pokémon that aren’t on a Trainer’s team can be deposited into Pokémon Boxes. In these games, Trainers will not only be able to access their Pokémon Boxes in various towns and facilities but also while they’re on the road or even when exploring tall grass. Pokémon can be swapped in and out of a Trainer’s team whenever the Trainer wants, though there are a few places, such as mission areas where a Trainer takes on a Pokémon Gym, where Trainers won’t be able to access their Pokémon Boxes.

Saving the game diligently has always been a part of a Pokémon adventure but in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Trainers can take advantage of the new autosave function. The autosave function will automatically save a player’s progress during their adventure at various points, such as entering a town or building. Although the function is automatically enabled when a Trainer begins their adventure, it can be turned off so saves can be made manually. Even when autosave is on, it is still possible to save progress in the game manually. Trainers can choose how they would like to save in the Options menu.

If a Pokémon that has been received in a trade doesn’t have a nickname, Trainers will now have the chance to give it a nickname—but only once. This can be achieved by speaking to the man standing behind the left-hand counter in any Galar region Pokémon Center. Like previous Pokémon video games, the name of a traded Pokémon that already has a nickname cannot be changed.

Satoshi: I'm Satoshi from Masara Town!
Go: I'm Go from Kuchiba City!
Go: I acknowledge you.
Satoshi: As what?
Go: As my friend!
Koharu: He never seems to do anything other than Pokémon research and observation...
Satoshi: I'm definitely gonna become a Pokémon Master alongside this guy here!
Go: Just wait! I hold the future in my hand!
Sakuragi: An extremely rare Pokémon has appeared in Kuchiba's port.
Go: Just as I predicted...
Go: It's in a frenzy!
