GameChat Enables New Ways to Play Socially, All Together
With the new online feature GameChat**, people can play games and talk like everyone is in the same room, even if they are miles apart. Whether sharing a victory or just waving hello, GameChat makes it feel like online friends around the world are on the same couch. Once GameChat is up, players can start a chat with friends anytime by pressing the C Button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller. The system’s built-in mic can be used to voice chat while playing games with up to 12 people in different locations. Up to four friends can share their screen, and if they connect a compatible USB-C camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 camera (sold separately), they can also video chat, seeing each other’s faces as they cheer, shout, or laugh while playing. Additional friends can join the chat via audio only. Until the end of March 2026, GameChat can be used without the need to have a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Afterwards, a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required.
When initiating a GameChat session, the user invites people from their friend list. Safety features are in place to help players have a safe and secure chat experience, such as the ability to report a person while in a chat session. In addition, Nintendo recognizes the important role parents and guardians play in their children’s online experiences, so children under the age of sixteen will need their parent or guardian to approve their use of GameChat with an updated version of the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls App.
A Multitude of New Features and Experiences
A large, vivid screen that allows smooth motion expression
Nintendo Switch 2 has a large 7.9-inch built-in LCD screen that displays in full HD at 1080p while maintaining the same thickness of Nintendo Switch. Even while on the go, Nintendo Switch 2 offers vivid, detailed game experiences, as well as smooth graphics showcasing character movements and their rich facial expressions.
Joy-Con 2 controllers attach to the system with a “snap”
Joy-Con 2, the newly designed Nintendo Switch 2 controllers, magnetically attach to the Nintendo Switch 2 console. In addition, either Joy-Con 2 controller can be operated like a mouse by sliding it on a surface like a table or on a pair of pants. They can be used in multiple ways, including for games that require aiming.
A new freely adjustable stand and a new USB-C port
The angle of the new stable stand on the back of the Nintendo Switch 2 system can be adjusted freely so that players can find their preferred viewing angle. While Nintendo Switch has one USB-C port on the bottom of the system, Nintendo Switch 2 has a port on the top of the system as well, which makes it possible for players to use the included AC adapter to charge the system while playing in tabletop mode. It is also possible to connect a compatible USB-C camera, like the Nintendo Switch 2 camera accessory to enjoy video chat on GameChat.
Powerful processing speed and graphical performance
Nintendo Switch 2 has significantly improved CPU and GPU performance over Nintendo Switch, resulting in faster processing speed and enabling new visually advanced gameplay. It also makes it possible to achieve more detailed graphics and faster loading times.
Crisp audio quality and spatial 3D sound
On Nintendo Switch 2, the sound quality is more natural and clearer with an even more balanced sound range. When playing in handheld mode or tabletop mode, players will be able to experience games with even more immersive, three-dimensional sound.
Internal storage of 256 GB
The internal storage of Nintendo Switch 2, where digital games and save data are stored, is 256 GB, which is 8 times the storage capacity of Nintendo Switch. For additional storage, Nintendo Switch 2 only uses microSD Express cards, which have faster data reading speeds than previous microSD models.
Nintendo Switch games are also playable on Nintendo Switch 2
In addition to Nintendo Switch 2 games, Nintendo Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital games released on Nintendo Switch. Some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers and peripherals, such as the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, will also be usable on Nintendo Switch 2 by connecting them wirelessly to the system. For more information on the compatibility with Nintendo Switch games and accessories, please visit the Nintendo website.
The new Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
By connecting the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock to a TV, users can output video at up to 4K resolution and play games at up to 120 fps, via compatible games and TVs.
Multiple people can play one title with GameShare
With GameShare, a new Nintendo Switch 2 feature, players can share and play the same game with others who do not have the game. If one person has a Nintendo Switch 2 system and a game compatible with GameShare, that person can invite others to temporarily play the same game together via local play with their Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch system. Between Nintendo Switch 2 systems, GameShare can also be used along with GameChat for online play, so that players can chat with others while all of them play the same game.
Virtual game cards add benefits to digital games
With virtual game cards, players can easily manage all their purchased digital games, play games on two different systems, or even lend or borrow games. The virtual game card menu shows all of the digital games purchased with a user’s Nintendo Account, making it easy to access the games and load them on the system. Once a virtual game card is loaded onto a system, it can be played even if the system is not connected to the internet, and other users who are on that system can also play the game. Additionally, digital games can be lent and borrowed among members of the same Nintendo Account family group in the form of virtual game cards via local wireless communication.
Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo Switch Online** will be available on Nintendo Switch 2. On Nintendo Switch 2, players with a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be able to use features like GameChat along with existing online features. For a limited time, all Nintendo Switch 2 owners can access GameChat without a Nintendo Switch Online membership through the GameChat Open-Access period, which lasts until the end of March 2026. After that time, a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required to use GameChat. In addition, for Nintendo Switch 2 owners, Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics will be released right at the system’s launch. Players with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership and a Nintendo Switch 2 system will be able to access a growing collection of Nintendo GameCube games with clearer image quality and higher resolution than the original releases. The classic game lineup available at release will be F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and SOULCALIBUR II. Along with the classic games, a dedicated wireless controller designed after the original GameCube controller will be available for purchase*** by paid Nintendo Switch Online members.
Variety of accessibility features
In addition to existing accessibility features on Nintendo Switch, to support players’ wide range of gameplay styles, Nintendo Switch 2 offers a variety of new accessibility options including the ability to adjust font size, enable screen reader, and speech-to-text features within GameChat.
Safe and secure game experience on Nintendo Switch 2
With the Nintendo Switch Parental Control app, parents can easily support their children’s gameplay by using their smart device to check what kind of games their children play or set limits on how long the system can be used daily. As for GameChat, children under the age of 16 will need the parent’s or guardian’s approval on the Nintendo Switch Parental Control app to start a chat, which makes it possible for parents and guardians to manage their children’s chat experience securely.
Nintendo Switch 2 will be available for pre-order in North America from participating retailers beginning on April 9, 2025.
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, you can enjoy your adventure in Lumiose City on Nintendo Switch 2 with enhanced resolution and frame rates, coming late 2025.

Pamphlet
The Pasio Academy school guidebook pamphlet is being distributed at Pokémon Center and Animate stores nationwide in Japan starting on March 31st, 2025. The distribution will end once stock runs out.
Download the New Pasio Academy Guidebook for Pokémon Masters EX
Learn about Pasio Academy, a new way to interact with Trainers in Pokémon Masters EX. A new feature in Pokémon Masters EX—Pasio Academy, where you can get to know and learn with other Trainers enrolled as students—became available on March 31, 2025. At the academy, Rei and Rosa welcome Trainers on their first day of school, which was established as a place where Trainers gather and share their vast experience and knowledge with each other. It’s a new way for you to interact and battle with familiar Trainers from each region!
Starting today, you can download an academy guidebook that includes a campus map, a uniform guide, and tips on how to make the most of battles, exams, and other activities at Pasio Academy.
When you enroll at Pasio Academy, you can chat and battle with other students to earn items that you can use to train up your academy sync pairs. Try battling all around the academy’s campus, from the schoolyard to the rooftop to the gymnasium. Academy sync pairs can battle on and off campus, so feel free to take them along on your adventures across Pasio.
Life at Pasio Academy wouldn’t be the school experience without exams—but these aren’t your typical tests! Exams at Pasio Academy are intense one-on-one battles, and sync pairs who put effort into training might just pass with flying colors.
Scout and Train with New Sync Pairs
Rei (Academy) & Braviary—a new sync pair—jumped at the chance to enroll at their first opportunity! Lacey & Granbull will also be visiting from Blueberry Academy. Both sync pairs became available to scout starting March 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. PDT.
Rei (Academy) & Braviary bring expertise as a sprint sync pair to the school. When their Special Attack is raised, their Gusty Mountains Esper Wing move never misses, adding wind under the wings of their teammates by raising allied sync pairs’ Speed. Plus, the more this sync pair’s Speed is raised, the greater the effect their Go Faster! move will have in reducing the duo’s sync move countdown.
Lacey & Granbull, a Fairy-type sync pair, can protect their allies from critical hits when the Move Gauge Acceleration effect applies to the allied field, thanks to their passive skill Star Student’s Whispers. Plus, when that same effect is active, their Love Dazzling Gleam move never misses and creates an EX Fairy Zone, powering up Fairy-type attacks. This duo may make for a great addition to a team of Fairy-type sync pairs. Get ready to scout these sync pairs, and enjoy your first day at Pasio Academy, Trainers!
Academy Event Pasio Academy Opening Under Way! Pasio Academy is finally open! Ilima and Lacey will show you around! You can see Rosa and Rei in uniforms!

Replay Events
Each time you do an Academy Event, your Academy Sync Pair’s upgrades will start from scratch. How your Academy Sync Pair turns out will depend on what area info you take on and which upgrades you select. Try to achieve rank A so you can view a special story after the final exam. Take on the event as many times as you need to develop your perfect Academy Sync Pair.
Note: If you wish to restart during an event, reset the Academy Experience from the history log in the upper right corner of the area info selection screen.
Select the Grid to Keep
Academy Sync Pairs have two different Sync Grids.
In-Training Grid
These grids can only be used within Academy Events. Activate these grids’ tiles during events to strengthen your Academy Sync Pairs.
Completed Grid
Once you take the final exam in round 12, the Academy Experience will be complete. Then, you’ll select the grid you’d like to keep. If you are satisfied with the upgrades you obtained, you can keep the contents of the In-Training Grid as your Completed Grid.
If you are not satisfied with the upgrades you obtained, you can keep your previous Completed Grid instead. Changes made to your Completed Grid will also be reflected in battles outside of the Academy Event.
About Trial Battles
In a Trial Battle, you can take on a battle using either your In-Training Grid or Completed Grid. You can access the Trial Battle feature from the rank confirmation screen during your second Academy Experience playthrough and onward. YouTube Clip - Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Direct 3.27.2025
Pokémon Legends: Z-A releases on Nintendo Switch later this year. Welcome to Lumiose City, where skilled Trainers participate in the Z-A Royale, a tournament where you’ll rank up via unique new Pokémon battles that happen in real time and can feature Mega Evolutions!
Press Release - Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Rhythm Heaven Groove, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and MARVEL Cosmic Invasion Also Featured in the Presentation
REDMOND, Wash., March 27, 2025 – Today’s Nintendo Direct presentation highlighted a slate of new games and more coming to the Nintendo Switch system in 2025 and beyond. The reveals included a new smart-device app called Nintendo Today! which delivers a variety of content including news and videos of your favorite Nintendo games and characters from select franchises. Also featured were a range of titles launching on Nintendo Switch, such as the newly announced Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream games, plus fresh looks at Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, just to name a few. The virtual game cards feature was also announced, which simplifies digital game management and enables players to lend or borrow games between multiple Nintendo Account family group members.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Choose either Chikorita, Tepig or Totodile to be your first partner Pokémon and begin a new adventure in Lumiose City – a setting that was introduced in the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Here, Quasartico Inc. is carrying out an urban redevelopment plan with the goal of making it easier for people and Pokémon to coexist. But when the sun goes down, the battles heat up. At night highly skilled Trainers are invited to participate in the Z-A Royale tournament: Just enter a battle zone to begin your climb from Rank Z all the way up to Rank A – Trainers who reach the top are even said to have a wish granted. Day and night reveal two sides to Lumiose City … so what will you find on your adventure? Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches on Nintendo Switch late 2025.
Press Release - New Pokémon Legends: Z-A Details Revealed During Nintendo Direct
A New Trailer Showcasing Lumiose City and Introducing the Z-A Royale Competition Premieres in Latest Presentation
BELLEVUE, Wash. — March 27, 2025 — The Pokémon Company International, in collaboration with Nintendo, revealed new details for the Pokémon Legends: Z-A game during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, debuting a new trailer that introduces the high-stakes Z-A Royale competition.
When night falls in Lumiose City, a battle zone with red borders made from cutting-edge holographic technology will appear somewhere within the city. Trainers compete in these battle zones from dusk until dawn as part of the Z-A Royale, a fierce competition where participants start at Rank Z and battle their way to Rank A. Only the strongest will claim the top rank, and those who reach Rank A may even have one in-game wish granted. As players navigate the competition, they’ll encounter other competitors and friends who will test their skills, like either Urbain or Taunie.
During the day, Trainers can explore wild zones to catch and train Pokémon in preparation for upcoming battles at night. When the battle zone becomes active, timing and strategy are key as landing a surprise attack can provide a critical advantage and escaping higher-ranked opponents may sometimes be necessary. To succeed in the Z-A Royale, players must make the most of both day and night, strengthening their teams for any challenges that await in Lumiose City.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A will launch on the Nintendo Switch family of systems in late 2025.

More information was revealed about the Pocket Monsters: Mega Voltage chapter on March 21st, 2025. The official Japanese Anime PR Twitter account posted the second key visual for Mega Voltage.
We present the second key visual for Mega Voltage, the new chapter of the Pokémon anime! Mega Voltage is set a year after the events of "At the End of the Adventure", when the curtain goes up for a new adventure for Liko, Roy, Dot and now also Uruto!
The official Japanese Anime PR Twitter account posted a
trailer on March 21st, 2025 for Mega Voltage. It was also available on YouTube but was region locked to Japan.
Pocket Monsters Mega Voltage:
Liko and Roy set off on a new adventure in order to restore the truth about the Rising Volt Tacklers! Not only that, but Roy's Yellow Lucario has Mega Evolved? The episode of Mega Voltage, the new chapter of the Pokémon anime, airing Friday April 11th will be a 1 hour special! (airdate, airtime and content may vary depending on region)
The official Japanese Anime PR Twitter account posted comments from Yuzu on March 21st, 2025.
GET BACK
(SENHA)
Vocals: Yuzu
Lyrics: Yujin Kitagawa, Koji Iwasawa
Composition: Yujin Kitagawa, TeddyLoid
Arrangement: TeddyLoid, Yuzu
It has been decided that the music duo Yuzu will be handling "GET BACK", the opening theme to the new Mega Voltage chapter of the anime TV show Pocket Monsters (airs on the TV Tokyo Network every Friday at 6:55pm, officially abbreviated "Anipoke") that premieres April 11th. This is an all new song depicting the strong resolve Liko and the others have, and can be heard in part in the newly released trailer.
The opening theme for Mega Voltage, the new chapter starting Friday, April 11th, 2025, will be... "GET BACK" by Yuzu. We've received comments from both members:
I feel extremely honored to do an opening theme for Pokémon anime, which is loved all over the world by both men and women, boys and girls of all ages. Yuzu debuted in 1997, the same year the Pokémon anime premiered, so it's a collaboration between "contemporaries" so to speak, which made me feel like we and the show shared a deep bond and a sense of destiny. Something entirely new and unexpected was born between Yuzu and Pokémon as we came together under the banner of Get Back. I hope this song will stay with those who love Pokémon and continue to evolve by their side.
-Yujin Kitagawa
When I first got the news, I was very honored, but honestly also very surprised, wondering if Yuzu was really the right choice for this show. Just the fact that many of the earlier theme songs have been very "poppy", as well as emotionally aligned with the anime, made me think a lot about how well Yuzu would be able to align with the anime, as well as whether Pokémon anime fans would accept our song. Yuzu has filled this opening theme with as much respect for Pokémon as they possibly could, and I hope watching and listening to it will bring you a weekly dose of excitement.
-Koji Iwasawa
Announcement of Uruto's Voice Actor for the Pokémon Anime
The official Japanese Anime PR Twitter account posted an
interview with Natsumi Fujiwara on March 21st, 2025. Uruto, the Pokémon Trainer that holds the key to the new chapter Mega Voltage, will be played by... Natsumi Fujiwara-san! We present a comment from Fujiwara-san where she talks about what kind of character he is.
Hello, everyone. This is Natsumi Fujiwara! This time I've been given the opportunity to play Uruto, a Pokémon Trainer with a Yamirami as his partner, who appears in Mega Voltage, the new chapter of the Pocket Monsters TV show! Thank you so much! I look forward to doing my best!
How did you feel when you learned you had been picked for the role?
Surprised... shocked... and happy, I guess. Pokémon is one of those franchises I myself been into since I was a kid; I of course watched the anime, I watched the movies, I played the games back when they were in black and white... So it all made me both surprised and happy at the same time that I got to be part of a franchise that has such a long history. However, it also gave me this strong desire to take on these various challenges. "All right, bring it on!", you know.
What were your initial impression of Uruto, the character you play?
He has this lively feeling to him, as if a fresh wind has blown onto the scene. He has this really intense and child-like attitude towards Roy, which I personally finds makes him a very... well, charming and loveable character.
What were your initial impressions of his partner Pokémon Yamirami?
My initial impressions were among the lines of "It's kinda shady", "Wonder what this guy is up to", "Just what IS this thing anyway?", and the fact that it's both a Ghost type AND a Dark type just made it even more of a shady Pokémon you never quite know what's up to. However, I also got extremely curious how this mysterious Yamirami character met Uruto and what kind of life it's led since then.
Finally, do you have something you want to tell the viewers?
This series has been running for a long time, so my heart is really racing at the thought of getting to join it for the first time as Uruto. I want to bring a new and fun wind to the show, and I hope you'll all watch in excitement at seeing what new adventures will unfold before Roy and the others, as well as Uruto. Best regards! Mega Voltage, the new chapter that features my character Uruto, will start Friday April 11th with a 1 hour special! The Pocket Monsters TV show airs every Friday at 6:55pm on the TV Tokyo Network. Best regards! This has been Natsumi Fujiwara. Bye-bye!

The first game of the 2025 MLB season took place at Tokyo Dome on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 as part of the Tokyo Series. The LA Dodgers faced the Chicago Cubs and the game featured MLB Japanese star Shohei Ohtani who was introduced to the original Pocket Monsters opening theme. Pikachu was also there cheering on the teams!

Press Release - Pokémon front and center as Tokyo Series celebrates Japanese icons
Michael Clair MLB.com
The Tokyo Dome went dark, the lights blinking off around the stadium. Suddenly, a spotlight flashed on: A lone child stood on the mound, staring toward the plate. But it wasn’t a baseball he was preparing to throw: It was a Poké Ball, the red-and-white orb famous from Pokémon.
If Tuesday’s Tokyo Series opener between the Dodgers and the Cubs was a one-of-a-kind ballgame, with five Japanese superstars playing against each other inside the iconic Tokyo Dome and two Japanese starting pitchers facing off, then the pregame ceremony needed to be just as momentous.
As the child stood on the mound, winding up to throw the Poké Ball, the packed Tokyo Dome once again was plunged into darkness. Then, with epic, action-hero music, the videoboard in center field came to life proclaiming that “MLB Monsters went to Japan.”
It was then time for the players to take the field for their introductions – each player earning a comparison to a different breed of Pokémon. As they did, a series of oversized and overstuffed Pikachus bounced and cantered adorably about the field.
