The 2025 Japan World Expo will be holding an event with Pokémon GO from Sunday, April 13th, 2025 to Monday, October 13th, 2025 where players can encounter event-related and rare Pokémon like Unown (E), Unown (X), Unown (P) and Unown (O).

Enjoy Pokémon GO at the Osaka, Kansai Expo! Take commemorative photos with Pokémon at the venue! Meet Pikachu and friends!

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition is pleased to announce that The Pokémon Company will be holding an event where you can enjoy Pokémon GO at venues every day during the 2025 World Expo.

When you play the Pokémon GO app at the Expo venues, various Pokémon will appear. You can enjoy taking commemorative photos with Pokémon using the "AR Snapshot" feature in the app. In addition, several 3D photo spots of Pokémon will be set up at Expo venues. The locations of the 3D photo spots will become PokéStops in the Pokémon GO app, and you can encounter Pokémon related to this event and rare Pokémon in the surrounding area.

While touring the Osaka, Kansai Expo site with Pokémon GO, which has the theme of "Designing Future Society for Our Lives", you can encounter Pokémon and enjoy memorable experiences that can only be had at the Osaka, Kansai Expo.

Period: Sunday, April 13th, 2025 to Monday, October 13th, 2025 (Planned)
Location: Specific areas within the Osaka-Kansai Expo site

■ Event-related and rare Pokémon that will appear: Pikachu, Snorlax, Meowth, Unown (E), Unown (X), Unown (P), Unown (O).

The Pokémon Company has teamed up with the animation studio CoMix Wave Films, which has worked on such features as Your Name, Weathering with You, and Sparrow's Door Closure, to produce the Pokémon Day 2025 commemorative animation Kairyu and the Mailman, with the theme of "a memorable day." It will be released on the official Pokémon YouTube channel at midnight on Thursday, February 27th 2025, which is Pokémon's anniversary.

In this special animation, Hana, a young girl who admires the mailman Kairyu, finds a letter with no address and embarks on an adventure with Pokémon to find the sender. The film also depicts many eye-catching scenes, such as Pokémon working with humans at the post office, Pokémon living in the wild, and Pokémon living as partners with humans. Anticipation is also building for the scene where Kairyu flies through a beautiful world. Please pay attention to the story of Pokémon and people, which is expressed with beautiful and detailed backgrounds, a prominent feature of CoMix Wave Films.

In addition, the theme song will be performed by suis from Yorushika, who is the lead vocals for the band Yorushika, and Evan Call adds excitement to the video as he wrote the music for NHK's Taiga drama The 13 Lords of the Shogun and the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.

Dazzling Production Team! The animation studio that produced the hit anime's Your Name and Sparrow's Door Closure

The production of Kairyu and the Mailman was handled by CoMix Wave Films. Their works include the animated films Your Name and Sparrow's Door Closure. The beautiful world of Pokémon, expressed with the beautiful backgrounds that only CoMix Wave Films can provide, is a must-see.

The film is directed by Taku Kimura (木村拓) (Studio Lemon), a young and promising director who was in charge of Tatooine Rhapsody, one of the episodes in Star Wars: Visions. He will portray the adventures of the Pokémon in a dynamic and lively manner, with an emphasis on creating a cinematic picture.

The Story of Kairyu and the Mailman

Hana, a girl from the Paldea region who admires Kairyu, a mailman, and aspires to be an ace mailman, is given a letter without an address one day, and suddenly has to run around looking for the sender. She runs around the city with her partner Fuecoco, and finally succeeds in finding the sender, a boy named Rio. When she hears the story, she learns that the letter was written by Rio to celebrate the birthday of his father, who is working alone in the Kanto region. However, that very day was his father's birthday...

Music distribution has been announced!

In addition, it has been decided that the theme song for Kairyu and the Mailman, Paper Airplane sung by suis from Yorushika, and the original soundtrack by Evan Call will be released for download at midnight on Thursday, February 27th, 2025.

She is the lead vocalist for the band Yorushika which started in 2017. Her clear voice and expressiveness that changes with the song has earned her high praise, and in addition to her work with Yorushika, she is also active as a solo artist, performing theme songs for movies and providing narration.

Comments from suis:
I love Pokémon, but I didn't know much about Kairyu... at the beginning. After hearing about the role, I watched the movie Pocket Monsters Mewtwo Strikes Back for the first time. It was a wonderful movie and brought tears to my eyes.
However, all I knew about Kairyu was that it takes a very strong run-up before flying, so there were many mysteries surrounding it...
Next, I watched episode 10 of the Pocket Monsters 2019 anime, The Kairyu Paradise and the Hakuryu Trial!, and learned why Kairyu is called Kairyu. Of course, the Kairyu in Kairyu and the mailman is not just a random Kairyu.
I had time to think carefully about what the sky was like before I sang the song (But at the time of recording, I just felt that Kairyu was cute. Pokémon are such lovely creatures...)

There were also moments when I was struggled with how I could express the beauty of Evan Call's music and Ameko Kodama's Japanese lyrics, but I was able to sing with all my heart because the two of them carefully explained their feelings about the song. I am still a very immature person, but I hope that part of me resonates through the song.

Evan Call's comments:
I have loved Pokémon since I was a child, collecting cards, enjoying the games, and watching the anime. I was really happy when I heard about this project and was surprised because I had just played Pokémon Scarlet last year and had previously watched the Pokémon anime.

When I was told the theme of this project, I felt that it naturally overlapped with the feel of my music, so I immediately started writing the music. The principles of "friendship and mutual help", which I feel is a major theme of Pokémon, is beautifully depicted in "Kairyu and the Mailman", and I feel it especially strongly with the theme song sung by suis. I put my heart into the music while being conscious of the dynamics of adventure, and I am forever proud to be a part of the work.

話を聞いてみると、この手紙は、カントー地方に単身赴任している父の誕生日を祝うためにリオが書いたものだった。

ポケモンは大好きだけれど、カイリューのことはあまりよく知らない…という始まりでした。
お話をいただいたことをきっかけに、「劇場版ポケットモンスター ミュウツーの逆襲」を初めて鑑賞しました。とても素晴らしい映画で涙しました。
しかしカイリューについては、飛ぶ前にかなり力強い助走をつけることしかわからず、謎が多いまま…。
次にアニメ「ポケットモンスター」（2019年）第10話「カイリューの楽園、ハクリューの試練！」を鑑賞し、ここでカイリューがカイリューたる理由を知りました。『カイリューとゆうびんやさん』におけるカイリューだってもちろん、漫然とカイリューなわけではないのです。
その空が一体どういうものであるのか、歌うにあたってじっくりと想いを馳せる時間がありました。
（が、収録の時点ではもうただただカイリューが可愛いという気持ちになっていました。ポケモンは本当に愛しい生き物なので…）

また、Evan Callさんの楽曲と児玉雨子さんの日本語詞の美しさを今の自分がどれだけ表現できるかと葛藤する瞬間もありましたが、お二人から丁寧に楽曲への想いを伝えていただけるタイミングもあり、改めて『自分なり』と向き合い、心を込めて歌うことができました。
まだまだ未熟な自分の等身大ではありますが、そんな部分も楽曲と共鳴できていたらいいなと思います。
ぜひ『カイリューとゆうびんやさん』の物語と合わせて、そして皆さん自身の物語として聴いていただけたら嬉しいです。

バークリー音楽大学でフィルムスコアリングを学び、2012年より日本で作曲活動を開始。
映像音楽を中心に、ボーカルソングへの楽曲提供、作詞、歌唱など、多岐にわたる分野で活躍している。
主な担当作品には、NHK大河ドラマ『鎌倉殿の13人』、アニメ『ヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデン』『わたしの幸せな結婚』『葬送のフリーレン』などがある。

子供の頃からポケモンが大好きで、カードを集め、ゲームを楽しみ、アニメも欠かさず見ていました。
このお話をいただいた時は本当に嬉しく、ちょうど昨年『ポケットモンスター スカーレット』をプレイし、アニメ「ポケットモンスター」を見返していたタイミングだったので驚きました。
今回のテーマに触れる中で、私の音楽が持つ色合いと自然に重なり合う感覚を覚え、すぐに曲作りを始めました。
ポケモンの大きなテーマだと私が感じている「友情や助け合い」というエッセンスは、『カイリューとゆうびんやさん』で見事に描かれており、特にsuisさんが歌う挿入歌に強く感じます。

New Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket Trade Feature and Space-Time Smackdown Expansion Coming Soon

Bellevue, Wash. — Jan. 23, 2025 — Today, The Pokémon Company group announced that the popular Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app will soon introduce a highly anticipated trade feature for all players beginning Jan. 29, 2025. In addition, players can look forward to a brand-new expansion for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, titled Space-Time Smackdown, releasing on Jan. 30.

New Trade Feature
Releasing on Jan. 29, 2025, the new trade feature will allow players to trade their digital Pokémon cards with friends, broadening options for growing card collections in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. Players will need to use two new items, trade hourglasses and trade tokens, in order to trade cards with a rarity of ♦1-4 and ★1 with cards of the same rarity. Upon release of the new feature, players will be able to trade certain cards from the Genetic Apex and Mythical Island expansions, with plans currently in place to expand the lineup of tradeable cards in future updates.[1]


New Space-Time Smackdown Expansion
Beginning Jan 30. 2025, players will be able to discover a variety of Pokémon from the Sinnoh region in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket’s latest expansion, Space-Time Smackdown. The Space-Time Smackdown expansion includes two new digital booster packs featuring the Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia. In addition, new and unique card illustrations will feature Pokémon new to Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, including the fan-favorite Pokémon Lucario and the three first partner Pokémon from the Sinnoh region: Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup. Players around the world can collect new cards from the Space-Time Smackdown expansion by opening booster packs or by using the wonder pick feature.


Furthermore, the release of Space-Time Smackdown will include new binder and display board covers featuring the Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia and the Mythical Pokémon Darkrai.

(CHICAGO – Jan. 21, 2025) – Pokémon Trainers – get ready to return to the Golden Arches! Starting today, the new Pokémon Happy Meal® arrives in stores nationwide for a limited time, unlocking more ways to experience the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) for customers who order on the McDonald’s app.

Fans will have a chance to discover various Pokémon, including fan-favorite Dragon-type Pokémon. Each Happy Meal includes a Pokémon TCG booster pack featuring four of 15 available Pokémon TCG cards, a Pokémon poster, and one sticker sheet to decorate the poster.

The fun doesn’t stop there! Every Happy Meal purchase made through the McDonald’s app unlocks an in-game bonus at no cost for the Pokémon TCG Pocket app. Fans will receive a one-time redeemable code to unlock 24 pack hourglasses and 12 wonder hourglasses, which can be used to open two digital booster packs and select one randomized digital card as part of the Wonder Pick feature.**

Pokémon GO PokéStops at your local McDonald’s

Beyond the latest Happy Meal, Pokémon fans can also visit their local McDonald’s restaurant to participate in the Pokémon GO activation that kicked off across the United States last December. As part of this collaboration, Trainers will be able to visit Sponsored PokéStops or Gyms when visiting all McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S.

Pokémon GO players can visit the participating McDonald's locations during specific weeks from now until the end of March to encounter Pokémon attracted by active Lure Modules and participate in five-star raids at McDonald’s Gyms.

These weeks are Jan. 20 – Jan. 26, Feb. 10 – Feb. 16, and March 10 – March 16.

The Pokémon Happy Meal® will be available starting Jan. 21 at participating McDonald’s locations nationwide, while supplies last. Head to your nearest McDonald’s to get your hands on Pokémon TCG cards and Pokémon TCG Pocket rewards before they’re gone!

The Pokémon Company has announced on January 15th, 2025 that they would be printing more products for the Pokémon TCG: Prismatic Evolutions set which was released on January 17th, 2025. Many people have been fighting and have been injured trying to get Pokémon TCG products in recent weeks due to scalping causing the Pokémon Center Singapore to stop selling Pokémon TCG: Prismatic Evolutions in-store.

Jewel’s Pokemon Centre halts card set launch amid 1,000-strong crowd; police called in

SINGAPORE - The Pokemon Centre Singapore halted sales of a new trading card game set in its Jewel Changi Airport store on Jan 17, after large crowds showed up hours ahead of its 10am launch. By about 9.15am, the crowd had swelled to more than 1,000 people and obstructed several walkways in the area, the police said.


Videos posted on social media platforms show throngs of people outside the retail outlet, eager to get their hands on the latest Prismatic Evolutions set featuring fan-favourite Pokemon Eevee and its evolved forms.

One TikTok user said fans had started queueing from 11pm the night before. The police said that they received a call for assistance at about 6.10am and found more than 200 people gathered outside the store when they arrived. Minutes later, the group had swelled to over 500 people, before reaching its peak of more than 1,000 people around 9.15am.

The Pokemon Centre called off the product launch around 9.20am, and officers from the Airport Police Division helped with crowd dispersal.
