Sep 22 2013 Pokémon Smash 154
The episode began with the Smash cast sitting at their desks as Robert walk in dressed in black suits and greet everyone with the customary "PokéMorning" greeting. The then explain that the entire episode is a Memorial Special with Broadcasts of the PokéSma Members' First Appearances, Nostalgic Clips and Lots of Memorable Comedy Bits from the past 9 years of Pokémon Sunday and Pokémon Smash. There was no anime rerun in this episode.

The first clip featured the introduction of TIM and Robert in the 3rd episode of Pokémon Sunday which aired on October 17th, 2004. At the time, Pokémon Sunday was only a half an hour show and it would alternate weeks where it would be a live action episode featuring Pokémon Research or it would showcase a rerun of the anime. Golgo introduces himself and is greeted by Becky but as he walks up to the desk he trips and falls. He then regroups and sits at his desk.

Leader Kimori and Robert in their spacesuit looking uniforms then show up. Yamamoto is the first member of Robert to introduce himself. Baba is next and is sporting his green hair and then finally Akiyama. Profressor Red shows up but spewing flour out of his mouth so Becky has to introduce him. He shows off his new invention the RED-001: uchukaman (宇宙華まん), a pun based off of 中華まん which is chukaman and 宇宙 which is uchuu (Japanese for space). The 3rd episode of Pokémon Sunday was centered around the definition of a genuine chukaman and what specifically made a manju "chinese-style".

A few years later, 21 year old Shoko-tan introduced herself in Pokémon Sunday episode #103 which aired on October 1st, 2006 at the start of the 3rd season of Pokémon Sunday. Golgo asked Shoko-tan what she liked to eat and she replied Hormon (ホルモン), otherwise known as Offal. She then showed off her nunchuck skills.

Robert then introduced a VTR featuring clips from the past. The first clip featured pastry chef Takagi Yasuhiro (高木康裕) 200th episode of Pokémon Sunday who made a special cake for them to celebrate the episode. A Pokémon Center Cake was also shown which was from Pokémon Sunday #122. The clip of Robert making the Pikachu cake and then revealing it to the children from Pokémon Sunday #63 was also showcased.

The next clip features Akiyama dressing up as Taisei Nanasawa's(七澤太盛) mom to try to trick him. Baba and Yamamoto watched remotely to get a good laugh. Shortly after a clip from Sunday #225 is shown which featured Robert's Surprise Quiz. The obstacle race required them to get a monster ball out of water, eat a wasabi roll and then get a hard foot massage.

In Smash #130 which aired on April 8th, 2007, did a segment where he familiarized himself with the 4th Generation of Pokémon by completely immersing himself in Pokémon Life. Four years later, Akiyama once again had to familiarize himself with the 5th Generation of Pokémon in Pokémon Smash #18. He was given tests to see how well he had learned the Pokémon. Pokémon Smash #67 also featured Misaki having to immerse herself in Pokémon training as a member of the Smash Elite Four.

A running gag throughout the series has been to feed Yamamoto Squid Ink. He really dislikes it as it gets his mouth all black. Short clips of the various times throughout the series was shown.

Returning back to Professor Red, his second invention the RED 002 was prominently used in Pokémon Sunday #4 and Akiyama famously used the device to smell poo in a bucket. Then the RED 006 "The Achooinger" (ハクショリンガー) was shown from Pokémon Sunday #12. First Baba used the device to make him sneeze and then Akiyama did as well but ended up coughing/choking twice. Then the RED 052 Face-to-face LEGEND (顔合わせレジェンド) from Pokémon Sunday #261 was shown. The device mixed and matched the faces of the Pokémon Sunday crew to make funny looking new faces.

After the commercial break, Robert introduced a VTR called Experience the changing world of the games (ゲームの世界を体験変). In Pokémon Sunday #152, Yamamoto and Akiyama dressed up as Hikozaru and Pochama from the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness games and reenacted scenes from the games. Then to promote the launch of Super Pokémon Scramble (スーパーポケモンスクランブル) on August 11th, 2011, Robert in Pokémon Smash #43 went out on a Adventure Division Battle Royale as Toy Pokémon. Later on in 2011 in Pokémon Smash #58, to promote the new game PokéPark 2 Beyond the World (ポケパーク2 ビヨンド・ザ・ワールド), Misaki dressed up as Pikachu while Baba dressed up as Tsutarja, Akiyama dressed up as Pokabu and Yamamoto dressed up as Mijumaru. They went around and did various activities to show what it would be like to play the game.

Card battles also played a large part of the series. Various clips were quickly shown to give viewers an idea of some of the things they did for card attacks when they played them out in real life. The clip featuring Misaki going through 5 V doors to emulate the TCG attack V-Generate was from Pokémon Smash #36.+

The next VTR segment was called the Popular Character Volume (人気キャラクター編). Director Lucario, Marketing Division Mijumaru, Director Zoroark, Yamirami, Leader Kimori and Hikozaru all played different roles throughout both series. Various clips of these characters were shown. Whenever Robert needed a bad guy for their skits, Reoccurring Regular Guest Big Man (番組準レギュラー 大きな男) was always there to beat them down or toss them around. Handsome Yamamoto also made a number of appearances. Akiyama Victini also became a popular reoccuring character during the Smash era. Victini Yamamoto showed up in Smash #66, but quickly changed the "V" on its head upside down to make a "へ (he)", thus transforming into へ Yamamoto.

Pokémon Smash 118 saw the apperance of the Mysterious Youth 'Y', a joke on the character N, as Yamamoto played the part in the episode. Pokémon Sunday #12 also saw the introduction of Face Squadron Kaoman (Faceman), a Super Sentai parody. Pokémon Sunday #243 saw the return of the Faceman and then Robert as Faceman was seen in a Japanese commercial for the 12th Pocket Monsters movie.

The Eievui Akiyama Friends (イーブイ秋山フレンズ) segment became popular in the summer of 2013 on Pokémon Smash to promote the Movie 16 short Pikachu and its Eievui Friends (ピカチュウとイーブイフレンズ). Akiyama dressed up as all the Eievui evolutions and did various skits from the Eievui house. Shoko-tan later joined in some of the skits as Nymphia. Yadon Akiyama was also a popular character in Pokémon Sunday but it made a special return in Pokémon Smash #53 at the Tokyo Pokémon Center to visit Marina Yamazaki (山崎真梨奈) who is a big fan of Yadon Akiyama.

Faceman then made a in-studio appearance and after the commercial break another segment was introduced as the Shock Scene Volume (衝撃シーン編). First, the scene from Pokémon Sunday #289 where Professor Akido takes Baba and Yamamoto curling is shown. Akido was trying to see how well they can take on the form of curling stones and a relatively successful match was held using humans in place of stones. Then a clip of Yamamoto being squished by Heat Stamp (ヒートスタンプ) was shown which was from Pokémon Smash #128.

Another running gag on the show was Shoko-tan's cooking. She always like to experiment with her cooking by adding exotic ingredients and then get one of the cast members to try it out. Eventually they caught on to her bad cooking and refused to try her food. In the beginning though, her cookies made Yamamoto faint, her Giza Giza Gelatin (ギザギザゼリー) made of Red Peppers (唐辛子), mustard (カラシ) and wasabi (ワサビ) was inflicted upon Golgo and her Giza Giza Dessert Pot with Miso flavoring (ギザギザデザート鍋 みそ味) was not enjoyed by Akiyama.

In Pokémon Sunday #265, Golgo got dressed up in a Maiko costume while visiting Kyoto. In Pokémon Sunday #241, Akiyama dressed up as Pikachu as Robert reenacted famous scenes from past Pokémon Movies. Yamamoto dressed up as Infi from movie 11. Baba dressed up as Katsumi's Dodaitose and had to use the move Bullet Seed (タネマシンガン). To emulate the attack, Baba put a lot of almonds in his mouth and spit them out when Yamamoto called for the attack. It took them a few times to do the scene as Baba had a hard spitting them out.

Another running gag on the show was Akiyama drawing Yamamoto's mother. He always drew horrible pictures which made it impossible for anyone to actually figure out what he was drawing. Akiyama always had to point out that it was a picture of Yamamoto's mother. In Pokémon Smash #68, Yamamoto's mother came on the show.

After the commercial break, the Final Big Event segment was shown. Pokémon The Park 2005 was the feature of Pokémon Sunday #30 as TIM went to visit it and try out all the rides. Pokémon Quiz Master was a two part event that aired in September of 2005 during Pokémon Sunday #49 and #50. Two years later in September of 2007, the Pokémon Quiz Revolution also aired as a two part event during Pokémon Sunday #154 and #155. Shoko-tan then went to the 'Locarno Film Festival' in Pokémon Sunday #254 to promote the 12th Pocket Monsters movie and to sing her ending theme from the movie Antenna of the Heart (心のアンテナ).

For the 11th Pocket Monsters movie, Red Yoshida got to voice the character Moose (ムース) and a clip of him doing the recording was shown. Robert had voice acting roles in the previous movie while Shoko-tan had voiced multiple characters. Golgo also got to voice Jibacoil in the 11th movie. The 'Pokémon Cosplay Photo' Grand Prix too place in Pokémon Smash #301 while Pokémon Smash #100 was dedicated to the Pokémon Movie 15th Anniversary Event 'Pikachu the Live 2012'. This concluded the recap of clips from the series.

Golgo concluded the episode by telling viewers that the winning Pokémon used in the Final PokéSma Champion Position Match in Smash #155 would be distributed at Pokémon Centers.
Sep 19 2013 Pokémon Smash 153
Episode 153 of Pokémon Smash, Mijumaru! Meguroco! Close Call!! / Pokémon XY Lab Special: Presenting the Newest Info on Mega Evolution Together with Masuda / A Report on the 'Pocket Monsters XY' Anime! (ミジュマル! メグロコ! 危機一髪!! / 「ポケモンXY研究所スペシャル」増田さんと一緒にメガシンカの新情報を紹介 / アニメ「ポケットモンスターXY」を大特集!) aired last Sunday.

After greeting the audience with a "PokéMorning!", Golgo introduced the "You Choose! The Pokémon Anime Requests" segment. Golgo says he himself had chosen today's request, and shows off 4 postcards he has received requesting a Mijumaru episode, from Haito Akiba and Kokone Hori, Hokkaido, and Yosuke Watanabe and Sota Tamura, Saitama. Golgo's chosen episode is the episode telling the story of Satoshi and Mijumaru's meeting and budding friendship, Best Wishes episode 3, Mijumaru! Meguroco! Close Call!! (ミジュマル!メグロコ!危機一髪!!). He then told Takei that Mijumaru's final evolution is Daikenki, and asked how he would catch one. Replying "Super Easy", Takei demonstrated how he wuld pick up a small rock, rub it against his hair to create static electricity, and toss it at Daikenki to weaken it, then get on top of it, pull one of its swords off, and whip it with it. Super Easy indeed. After this episode, Professor Red started the episode with "Ok! Poké We GO!"

Pokémon XY Lab Special

As we return from the rerun episode, Professor Akido is ready with a new batch of exiting Pokémon XY news. Despite his attempts to stop them, however, Yamamoto and Baba accidentally reveal that Masuda is on his way to reveal news on Mega Mewtwo, which catches everyone's interest, but Akido soon steers the topic back onto his own information. Turning on the TV screen near him, he shows the rest of the group the three XY starter Pokémon, Harimaron, Fokko and Keromatsu, and tells them he will reveal their evolutions.

Harimaron evolves into Haribogu, the Spiny Armor Pokémon, which is a Grass type with the Ability Overgrow, and is 0.7 m tall and weighs 29.0 kg.
Fokko evolves into Tailenard, the Fox Pokémon, which is a Fire type with the Ability Blaze, and is 1.0 m tall and weighs 14.5 kg.
Keromatsu evolves into Gekogashira, the Bubble Frog Pokémon, which is a Water type with the Ability Torrent, and is 0.6 m tall and weighs 10.9 kg.

Next, he shows the group the three original starter Pokémon from Pocket Monsters Red and Green, Fushigidane, Hitokage and Zenigame, and reveals that the player will get to choose one of these as well. This greatly excites Shoko-tan, and Yamamoto explains that this was done so people can use their old, nostalgic favorites in these new games as well.

Akido says it's still too early to be surprised, though, and reveals that their final evolutions Fushigibana, Lizardon and Kamex can Mega Evolve, becoming Mega Fushigibana, Mega Lizardon and Mega Kamex. He then tells the others he will demonstrate exactly how awesome these new Mega Evolutions are, seguing into a video clip he's prepared.

In the clip, Akido says he'll have his two assistants Yamamoto and Baba show just how great the new Mega Evolutions are. First up is Fushigibana, which is Grass/Poison type, and thus weak against Fire and Ice attacks. When it Mega Evolves into Mega Fushigibana, however, its Ability changes from Overgrow to Thick Fat, making it strong against these types instead. To give us a visual explanation, he has Baba play the part of a regular Fushigibana, and makes two other assistants toss buckets of both hot water and ice water at him, making him recoil in pain at the "hot-coldness". Then, to demonstrate the Mega Evolution, he has Yamamoto play the part of the added protection, making Baba hold him up before him. Once again, the assistants toss buckets of hot water and ice water at them, but as the water hits Yamamoto rather than Baba, Baba ends up unaffected. And as such, it's demonstrated that after Mega Evolving, Mega Fushigibana's Thick Fat make it strong against Fire and Ice moves.

Next is Lizardon, which changes its Ability from Blaze to Drought upon Mega Evolving, thus increasing the power of its Fire moves. To demonstrate, Baba is put in a makeshift plastic greenhouse together with two other assistants, making the air inside hot and stuffy to simulate a regular Lizardon's Heat Wave move. The other two assistants are then sent out and replaced with two huge sweaty sumo wrestlers, making him almost burn up from the produced heat, thus simulating the increased power a Mega Lizardon's Heat Wave has. And thus, it's demonstrated that Sunny weather increases the power of Fire moves.

Finally, we have Kamex, which Ability changes from Torrent to the new Ability Mega Launcher upon Mega Evolution. Mega Launcher increases the damage of "pulse" type moves. To demonstrate this, Yamamoto is first doused with the water from a regular garden hose, simulating a Water Pulse attack from a normal Kamex. Next, Akido pulls out a pressure washer to simulate a Water Pulse attack from a Mega Kamex, spraying Yamamoto with a powerful and quite painful stream of water. Thus, we see how Mega Kamex' Pulse type moves greatly increase in power.

As we cut back to the studio, Akido announces Masuda's arrival, and sure enough, the "God of Pokémon" walks in shortly after. Akido says Masuda will tell them about Mega Mewtwo, but Golgo points out that they've already been shown a lot about it. Masuda says this time he'll show them during actual gameplay, and challenges Shoko-tan to a battle, which she happily accepts. The battle starts, with Shoko-tan using Mewtwo and Masuda using Zoroark, and Masuda tells her to Mega Evolve. As Shoko-tan does, however, Mewtwo transforms into an as of yet unseen form, before defeating Masuda's Zoroark with a single Giga Impact! Shoko-tan is shocked, having no idea what just went on, and Masuda explains that what they just saw was "Mega Mewtwo X". He further explains that the Mega Mewtwo they've been shown previously is actually named "Mega Mewtwo Y". Mewtwo Mega Evolves into Mega Mewtwo X with the Mewtwonite X Mega Stone, found in Pocket Monsters X, and into Mega Mewtwo Y with the Mewtwonite Y Mega Stone, found in Pocket Monsters Y. Golgo thanks Masuda for this amazing piece of news, and Masuda signs off by reminding everyone to please buy Pocket Monsters X and Y when they get released in October.

Pocket Monsters XY Anime Preview

Next, Shoko-tan has some news on the anime for us. First, she shows off "the Pokémon the anime will introduce in the Kalos region", and pulls a cover off a giant poster, revealing a promotional poster for the Pocket Monsters XY anime series. The poster shows Satoshi alongside many new Pokémon like Onvern, and Golgo points out the giant figures of Mega Lucario and Mega Burshamo standing in the distance. Shoko-tan points out the Fairy type Pokémon on the poster, like Nymphia and a very small Flabebe.

Following that, she goes on to introduce the new characters Satoshi and Pikachu will encounter. First up are Citron (シトロン) and Eureka (ユリーカ), which she explains are two siblings Satoshi meets in Niare City, and which are his opponents in the very first battle he has in the Kalos region, a battle he won't forget soon. Next is Serena (セレナ), a young girl who is just starting on her journey as a Pokémon trainer, and which Professor Red and Shoko-tan point out have a fashionable set of thigh-high socks and excellent zettai ryouiki. Shoko-tan wonders which of the three starter Pokémon she will choose, and mentions that she appears to have met Satoshi before, making the others ask where. They get no answer, though, as Shoko-tan introduces the next character, Viola (ビオラ), an active woman with a nice body and a great waist, and the Gym Leader of Hakudan City, which Satoshi will be challenging. And finally, she shows us the ones everyone were waiting for: Rocket Gang members Musashi, Kojiro and Nyarth, which will of course be appearing this series as well.

Next, Shoko-tan tells us she has information on the Mega Bursyamo that will be appearing right at the beginning of the new anime, and shows a video clip from the 1-hour premiere special of Pocket Monsters XY that will air October 17th. The clip shows Satoshi arriving in Kalos, walking through the city, encountering Citron and Eureka, and getting to see the the new Pokémon Harimaron, Fokko and Keromatsu... as well as a mysterious Mega Bursyamo that jumps down from a rooftop, lands imposingly behind him, then quickly jumps away again.

Finally, Shoko-tan mentions that the release of Pocket Monsters X and Pocket Monsters Y will be celebrated with an anime titled "Pocket Monsters the Orgin", which will air Tuesday October 2nd at 7PM, and which is based on the original Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green. She shows a promotional trailer for this, the one that has been available online for a while already, which shows Pokémon trainer Red receiving a Hitokage as his first Pokémon, and setting out on a journey.

Finally, Golgo has an announcement to make. This show, which started out as Pokémon Sunday, and has run 9 years now, will end in 2 episodes. To commemorate this, they will give out a Pokémon related to the show to all their viewers. As he gets ready to announce which Pokémon this will be, the studio door opens, and Director Zoroark, Leader Kimori and Hikozaru walk in to join Mijumaru and Director Lucario. The cast members line up before them, each holding a numbered poster they'll remove to reveal either an X mark or an O mark, the Pokémon getting the O mark being the one that will be distributed. As they reveal their posters, though, it turns out they all have X marks. As they wonder what this means, the door again opens, and Golgo's Yamirami walks in with the O poster. Golgo is about to scold it, but finds it too cute to yell at, so he decides that Yamirami will be the distributed Pokémon instead.

Thumbnail Thumbnail Thumbnail

He goes on to explain that his Yamirami has undergone special training, and thus knows moves normal Yamirami can't learn: Octazooka and Tickle. The Pokémon will be available at all Pokémon Centers in Japan between September 15th and 28th, and can be downloaded for Pocket Monsters Black, White, Black 2 and White 2.

Full details of the Yamirami distribution are available in the Event Database.

Finally, ending the episode, Golgo announces that the next episode will be a commemoration special looking back at the earlier episodes of the show, while the very last episode will be another Pokémon Smash Champion Position Match tournament.

After greeting the audience with a "PokéMorning!", Golgo introduced the "You Choose! The Pokémon Anime Requests" segment. Golgo himself had chosen today's request, which was sent by 8-year-old Hiroyuki Shima from Saitama. He requested an episode about Kekking, and wrote "If he doesn't move much, he'll grow fat" as a comment in the letter. Golgo pointed out that while Hiroyuki hadn't drawn any pictures, his request was chosen because he had written the letter all by himself, something they'd like to see more kids do.

As they returned from the rerun episode, Golgo reminded everyone that the movie "Extremespeed Genesect: The Awakening of Mewtwo" will premiere in just two months. To elebrate that, today's episode will be a special that analyses Mewtwo's character and explains what kind of Pokémon it is. For this reason, they had invited a special guest lecturer to the show, but when Golgo tries calling for this person, no on comes in, so Shoko-tan runs off to search. Right after she leaves, someone calls out "PokéMorning", and the "special lecturer" walks in. She introduces herself as "Miss Nakagawa, CEO of the Mewtwo Research Laboratories", claiming that Shoko-tan asked her to come to teach them all she knows about her darling Mewtwo. Akiyama and Yamamoto point out that "Miss Nakagawa" is clearly just Shoko-tan herself in a costume, prompting her to yell at them to SHUT UP!!

"Miss Nakagawa" explains that through years of research, she has discovered 3 key points to explain the awesomeness of Mewtwo. The first point is "Mewtwo's creation by human hand". Miss Nakagawa shows some clips from the beginning of the first Pokémon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back, and explains how its artificial creaton made Mewtwo search for the meaning of life. She asks Red what the meaning of his life is, but when he starts talking about how it's his inventions, she yells at him to SHUT UP!!, saying she doesn't care about his useless inventions. She turns to Neese instead, who explains that his purpose in life is to spread the fun of Pokémon as a PokéSma member, and she tells him he did a GOOD JOB!! with that answer.

The second key point is "Mewtwo possesses powers far beyond the norm". She shows more clips from Mewtwo Strikes Back that demonstrate this, showing the scenes from the beginning of the movie where Mewtwo destroys the laboratory that gave birth to it. She then asks Robert what kind of powers they possess, and they say that since their work revolves around making people laugh, it'd have to be that. She asks them to demonstrate, adding that abilities and powers can make for a purpose in life, and the comedy trio present a short skit where Yamamoto plays an ambulance, and Akiyama follows him around, slipping random English words into the sound of his siren. She tells them GOOD JOB!!, then asks Red about his powers, but interrupts him with a SHUT UP!! before he can answer.

The third and final keypoint is "Mewtwo possesses both cruel heartlessness and compassionate kindness", explaining that while Mewtwo may have come across as evil in what they've shown thus far, that's not all there is to it, then shows a selection of clips from the climax of Mewtwo Strikes Back, where Mewtwo commands the copy Pokémon against the original Pokémon, but eventually has a change of heart after Satoshi's sacrifice. Miss Nakagawa starts gushing over this scene, claiming it changed the history of animation forever, and Akiyama says she's definitely just Shoko-tan in a costume, and is once again told to SHUT UP!!

Miss Nakagawa then says that there will be even more awesome things to see about Mewtwo in the upcoming movie, and launches the full movie trailer to demonstrate. She explains how Mewtwo will awaken and gain even more powers, and that it'll battle other Pokémon that were created by humans in the Genesect. Finally, she promises to show footage proving how awesome the Mewtwo you can get through the movie preorder ticket, before ending the segment for now.

Professor Akido's Pocket Monsters X/Y Laboratories

As promised last week, from this episode an on, Professor Akido will be presenting news on the upcoming game Pocket Monsters X and Pocket Monsters Y, alongside his assistants Group Member Yamamoto and Group Member Baba. This episode, he's presenting one of the new Pokémon that will appear in these games; the Generation Pokémon Erikiter. As Masuda mentioned, this is the first Electric/Normal type Pokémon in the franchise. Akido then shows a new gameplay clip, where Erikiter is shown using a new move. He explains that this move is named Parabolic Charge, and that it damages all the other Pokémon in the battle, including your own allies. The user then recovers HP equal to half the total inflicted damage. Yamamoto mentions that it appears to be an Electric move.

Akido goes on to mention that Erikiter can take in sunlight and use it to generate electricity, which can then be used to charge electric machinery and appliances. He then wonders if humans are able to charge machines like that too, and decides to run an experiment. Baba is placed on a bike that's connected to a TV via a set of wires, and he pedals as fast as he can, eventually making the TV turn on. The experiment is a success.

The Eievui Akiyama Friends

Today, Baba and Yamamoto have come to the Eievui Akiyama House with a question for Thunders Akiyama. When they knock on the door, however, Eievui Akiyama and Nymphia Nakagawa answer it. The two are surprised to see her, and she says they're "phiamates" (ルームフィア), Yamamoto pointing out that the term is "sharemates" (ルームシェア). They ask for Thunders Akiyama, but Eievui Akiyama says he's not home at the moment, so they decide to ask Nymphia Nakagawa the question instead. The question, from Nao Nakai, Hyogo, is What do you do for fun?

She thinks for bit, then says she likes to "phia". Baba and Yamamoto asks what that's supposed to mean, and she answers by jumping forward, striking a comic pose, and yelling "buccalphiatchacone" (バッカルフィアッチャコーン), parodying her well-known usage of the word "Buccalcone". Eievui Akiyama says she's always doing stuff like this, as she breaks into a dance, chanting "nym-nym-nym, nym-nym-nym, nym-nym-nymphia, nym-nym-nym", making the others join in as well. She and Eievui Akiyama then close the door, making Baba and Yamamoto wonder just what that was all about.

Back at the set, Miss Nakagawa presents details on the preorder ticket event Mewtwo. It is level 100, knows Psystrike, Ice Beam, and the two event-exclusive moves Heal Pulse and Hurricane, has the Ability Unnerve, and holds an Iban (Custap) Berry. She then shows a set of game clips featuring the event Mewtwo in action. First, we see a demonstration of its amazing Speed and Special Attack, as it enters a battle with the speedy Voltolos, moves first, and knocks it out with a single hit with Psystrike. Next we see it go up against an Ulgamoth. Once again, Mewtwo goes first, knocking out Ulgamoth with a single hit from Hurricane, a move it can't normally learn, and which is highly effective against Bug types, which Psychic types like Mewtwo are weak against. Its next opponent is Rayquaza, a Pokémon Miss Nakagawa says commonly carries the Yache Berry, a berry that reduces damage dealt by Ice moves, which Dragon types are weak against. This Mewtwo's Abiity is Unnerve, however, an Ability that prevents the opponent from eating berries, and Mewtwo thus manages to knock out Rayquaza with a single Ice Beam. Finally, we see Mewtwo in a double battle, where it and a Manyula are going up against a Dialga and a Roubushin, and Dialga uses Trick Room, a move that reverses everyone's Speed stat. This would normally be a dangerous situation for the super speedy Mewtwo, but since it carries an Iban Berry, it is able to move first after all, and knocks out Roubushin with a single hit from Psystrike despite being at so low HP it wouldn't have normally survived that round.

Everyone are truly impressed with this Mewtwo, and we're told that the special preorder ticket that comes with a voucher for this event Pokémon is now on sale. Miss Nakagawa reminds everyone to watch the movie once more, then bids her farewell, the rest of the hosts still pointing out how she's obviously just Shoko-tan in a costume. Shoko-tan returns right after "Miss Nakagawa" leaves, pretending to be sad she missed her, but when Golgo suggest they go call her back in, she says Miss Nakagawa is probably too busy for that, and quickly changes the subject.

Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku's Visit

Shoko-tan announces that they have some amazing guests related to the upcoming movie short Pikachu and its Eievui Friends on the set today, and calls them in. It is the pop group Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku, the singers of the ending theme to Pikachu and its Eievui Friends, Let's Hold Hands, dressed up in clothes based on the Eievui Friends for the occasion, each member portraying one of the 9 Friends. The narrator mentions that the song is used as the ending theme for Pocket Monsters Best Wishes Season 2 Decolora Adventure as well, and we're shown a clip from the new footage used in the ending as per episode 5, featuring the girls in both live and animated form. Shoko-tan says they'll soon perform the song for us, but before that, we'll all get to see the first scene from the short itself; an entire minute's worth of footage.

The short starts off by showing Pikachu, Mijumaru, Kibago and Yanappu on a swing against a black background, which eventually lights up and turns into the short's title card, the swing making the letters appear as it flies over the screen. The short itself then starts, showing the same four Pokémon running through a forest, the narrator voice saying they're full of energy today. As Pikachu reaches the top of a hill overlooking a flower bed, it stops, but the other Pokémon crash into it, and send all four tumbling into the flowers. As they get back up on their feet, they laugh about the situation, and we see a Nymphia run through the flowers for a second before the clip ends.

As we return from a commercial break, Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku put on their performance, singing and dancing to Let's Hold Hands, with the hosts dancing along on the sidelines. After the song, Eievui Akiyama walks onto the set, telling EbiChu that despite wearing the outfits that they do, he doesn't think they quite become the Eievui Friends, and he wants to test them to see which are the most "appropriate" Eievui Friends. Tune in next time.

The episode ends with a reminder that the Pokémon Tretta PokéSma Challenge Cup is still running, and that all the Pokémon Centers are also hosting the cup. The cup is held there until May 31st. In addition, the cup will also be held at the International Tokyo Toy Show 2013, which takes place June 15th-16th. See the official home page for further information.
May 22 2013 Pokémon Smash 136
Episode 136 of Pokémon Smash, Stray Pokémon Hitokage / A Special Report on 'Pokémon X & Y', Where Masuda Announces Surprising News! / A Collaboration Project with the Pokémon Center, Which will Soon Celebrate its 15th Anniversary, Comes to Fruition!? / The Latest Movie News! ( はぐれポケモン・ヒトカゲ / 「ポケモンXY」大特集、増田さんが驚きの最新情報を発表! / 15周年を迎えるポケセンとのコラボ企画が実現!? / 映画最新情報!) aired this sunday.

The episode started with the hosts greeting everyone with a PokéMorning, before Golgo introduced the "You Choose! The Pokémon Anime Requests" segment.

Shoko-tan mentioned how they show has received a lot of mail for this segment asking for a Hitokage episode, and shows off several of these, before presenting today's chosen request, a letter from 7 year old Masashi Tanaka from Chiba, who says he wants to see the episode where Satoshi first met Hitokage. This happened in Pocket Monsters episode 11, Stray Pokémon Hitokage (はぐれポケモン・ヒトカゲ), and Shoko-tan explained that this was a really popuar episode that she liked a lot as well. A summary of the episode can be found in our episode guide. Professor Red then cut to the episode with "Ok! PokéReq GO!"

As we returned from the rerun episode, the International Division joined the other hosts, before Professor Akido suddenly walked onto the set, telling them that he had been living inside a hole on the roof of the set for a while now, heard the hosts coming, and thought this would make a good opportunity to explain the core concepts of the Pocket Monsters games to everyone.

Pokémon X/Y Special

Before that, though, the narrator explained that this episode was a Pokémon X/Y special, where we would be shown the newest info on the X/Y games, which are being released worldwide this October, and Shoko-tan introduced the person who would give us this info: the God of Pokémon games, Masuda from Game Freak. With that, Masuda walked onto the set, greeted everyone, and showed off a set of covered posters.

Golgo asked how far along the games were at the moment, and Masuda said the packaging has just recently been finalized, pulling the cover from the first poster, revealing pictures of their designs, which showed off the new legendary Pokémon: Xerneas, which can be encountered in Pocket Monsters X, and Yveltal, which can be encountered in Pocket Monsters Y.

Masuda then prepared to pull off the next cover to reveal more information, but Akido stopped him, saying they should go over the basics of Pokémon in detail once more before proceeding. He then asked Yamamoto and Baba to come with him, which they weren't all too happy about, as they usually end up getting hurt during Akido's experiments.

Akido took the two to his lab, where he explained that a lot of kids are going to play X and Y as their first Pokémon games, and that they should explain the history of the franchise to them. The narrator then gave a quick overview of the series, showing off all the main titles, starting with Red and Green's 1996 release, where he explained how the concept of trading monsters wth friends via link cable created an entirely new and innovative game experience. Professor Akido then launched his breakdown of the series' key points.

The first key point is how the games have you start your journey as a Pokémon Trainer by selecting one of three starter Pokémon as your partner. He then demonstrated this by having Baba, dressed up as a Youngster, choose between the three starter Pokémon from Black and White: The Grass Type Tsutarja, the Fire Type Pokabu, and the Water Type Mijumaru, here portrayed by Yamamoto in a costume. Youngster Baba doesn't think Mijumaru looks all that cute from the hat and down, but still ends up choosing it, as Akido explains that one can choose Pokémon based on either type or looks - it's all up to you. The narrator then showed a clip presenting the three starter Pokémon from X and Y, the Grass Type Harimaron, the Fire Type Fokko, and the Water Type Keromatsu, asking the viewers which of the three they want to start with.

The next key point is, of course, how Trainers catch new Pokémon on their journey and add them to their teams, with the narrator explaining that one of the goals of the game is to catch all the Pokémon and register them in your Zukan. Yamamoto, dressed as the Worker Trainer class, joined Professor Akido, as they went to the world of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, where they searched around in a thicket, the narrator explaining how this is the most common way to find Pokémon. Suddenly, a wild Pachirisu, or at least a man in a Pachirisu costume, jumped out at them, and Worker Yamamoto started the battle by sending out a Naetle, portrayed by Baba in a costume.

The narrator explained that wild Pokémon need to be weakened with attacks before they can be caught, and Worker Yamamoto decided to have Naetle Baba start off with a Tackle attack, but the Pachirisu attacked him first with Quick Attack, a move that always hits before the opponent. Naetle Baba then hit back with a Tackle, and Yamamoto decided to try a monster ball, the item used for catching Pokémon. Since Pachirisu was so big, Akido gave him a specially-made giant monster ball, which Yamamoto pointed out was just a bead cushion. Still, he threw it at the Pachirisu, and it went into the ball, though popped back out shortly after, the narrator explaining that the more you weaken a Pokémon, the easier it is to catch.

Naetle Baba continued the battle by using Razor Leaf, portrayed by him tossing salad at the Pachirisu man, followed by putting a leaf-motif bucket on his head and knocking on it. Yamamoto pointed out that that wasn't a leaf, but Baba said it still seemed to do damage, so Yamamoto tried throwing another monster ball. Once again, Pachirisu went inside the ball, and it started to shake, the narrator explaining how you have to wait until the ball stops shaking before the Pokémon is caught. And unfortunately, the Pachirisu broke out before the ball shaked for the last time, attacking Baba as the narrator explained that no matter how much a Pokémon is weakened, it's never guaranteed you'll catch it, which adds to the suspense.

Yamamoto threw a third monster ball, and the Pachirisu stayed in this time, with the narrator explaining how you'll keep catching Pokémon on your journey, using your assembled team to win gym badges, and work to fill the Pokémon Zukan.

With that, Akido, Yamamoto and Baba returned to the set, as Masuda prepared the next announcement; the revelation of the adventure's protagonists. He pulled off the cover on the next poster, and showed off the designs of the playable boy and girl characters, with the hosts pointing out how stylish and cool they looked, with Neese doing a little dance to introduce himself to them at Akido's request. We're then introduced to an entirely new feature: the ability to alter your character's appearance, choosing between three combinations of skin and hair color.

Next, Masuda says he has some really noteworthy info to reveal; the setting of the new adventure. He pulls off the cover from a third poster, revealing a map of the new region, the Kalos Region, and Shoko-tan points out a snow-covered area and a castle as particularly interesting places. We're then shown a closer look at the city in the center of the region, Miare City, as Masuda pulls off the cover from another poster showing a picture of it, the hosts calling attention to a tower in the background and what looks like an open cafe.

Masuda then says he'll show us a video clip from Kalos and Miare. The clip has ever before been shown on TV, and shows the protagonists running through the city, giving us detailed views of them up close. One of the scenes shows the girl running diagonally, which really surprises everyone, Baba saying he's always wanted to run diagonally in a Pokémon game.

Finally, Shoko-tan asks Masuda to reveal the biggest news of all, and he pulls the cover off the last poster, revealing some all-new Pokémon:
First is the Generation Pokémon Erikiter (エリキテル), an Electric/Normal type, a type combination never before seen, with height 0.5 m and weight 6.0 kg. Shoko-tan says looks like it can evolve, and Golgo asks what it sounds like, and Masuda tells him he'll have to wait and see when the game comes out.
Next, the Japanese Robin Pokémon Yayakoma (ヤヤコマ), a Normal/Flying type, 0.3 m tall and weighing 1.7 kg. Shoko-tan is captivated by how cute it is, but the narrator says it's likely to be really fierce in battle.
Next up is the Mischievous Pokémon Yancham (ヤンチャム), a Fighting type, 0,6 m tall and weighing 8.0 kg. Shoko-tan is once again beside herself with how cute it is and asks Masuda to stop already, then asks if it evolves, Yamamoto saying it looks like it'll get really strong upon evolution.
The final new Pokémon is the Ride Pokémon Gogoat (ゴーゴート), a Grass type, 1.7 m tall and weighing 91.0 kg. The hosts wonder what is meant by "Ride Pokémon", Maru asking if it means you can ride it, prompting Masuda to show a new video clip. The clip starts off by showing Gogoat battling a Yancham, and we see that it can use the Grass type move Horn Leech. Next, we're shown the boy protagonist riding a Gogoat through Miare City, proving that Maru was right, you can indeed ride Gogoat.

The narrator says there are still many more exciting clips to show, but Masuda says they've unfortunately ran out of time. Everyone yells at Akido for wasting so much time with his segment, and he says he'll make amends: Every week from now on, he'll promise to present new information on Pokémon X/Y, such as new Pokémon, which he'll get straight from Masuda. With that, Masuda bids his farewell, and everyone thanks him for the info he presented.

The Pokémon Center's 15th Anniversary Events

This year, the Pokémon Center stores are celebrating their 15th anniversary, and there will be lots of fun tie-in event, such as a new exclusive Nintendo 3DS LL design, battle guides booklets, and event Pokémon giveaways. Pokémon Smash will be doing a tie-in event as well: Recruiting new "special employees" of Pokémon Enterprise.

In other words, you can go to a Pokémon Center and receive a specially-made business card with your name on it, making you a special employee of P.e. Baba and Yamamoto then show what happened when they presented this event to the Pokémon Center, showing a clip of them decked out in full suits, entering the Pokémon Center Tokyo, where they talked to staff member Aoike (青池), who's busy hanging up posters advertising various 15th Anniversary tie-in events.

They hand her their business cards, and we're shown that the Pokémon Enterprise members have each made their own personal business cards, with their motto written on the back in their own handwriting (Shoko-tan's says "Youth is finite, always be greedy", which Yamamoto points out is a kinda mean thing to say). He then shows off the empty business cards the kids can fill out, and we're explained that you also get a copy of one of the Pokémon Enterprise members' business cards alongside it.

Aoike says she thinks this is a great event, but says someone else just presented a different event. She takes Baba and Yamamoto to see their rival, which turns out to be Eievui Akiyama, currently having a staff member set up a poster in the store for him! The poster shows all of the Eievui Akiyama Friends, and he explains that this is a popularity poll, and that people can vote for their favorite of the Friends by putting a sticker under that Friend's name on a separate poster nearby.

Baba and Yamamoto point out that Nymphia Nakagawa isn't an option, and Eievui Akiyama says that if he had put her on there, she'd just have won way too easily. This would be the time to decide which of the two proposed events the Pokémon Center will run, but Aoike surprises everyone by saying they'll run both of them at the same time, thus pleasing everybody. We're then given full details on the events: By voting in the Eievui Akiyama Friends popularity poll, held in all Pokémon Centers, you will be given a set of 5 business cards - 3 empty ones to be filled out, and 2 Pokémon Enterprise member cards.

Genesect Promo Events

The narrator reminds us that the special preorder ticket that allows one to download a special level 100 Mewtwo is currently on sale, before Shoko-tan and the Genesect Army reveal the second event Pokémon for the movie, the one that can be downloaded via local wireless in the theater before the movie starts. This year, it's an alternate-colored Genesect: the Red Genesect from the movie!

The Genesect can be downloaded to both Pocket Monster Black and White and Pocket Monsters Black 2 and White 2. It is level 100, and knows the moves Extremespeed, Techno Blast, Blaze Kick and Shift Gear. Apart from Techno Blast, Genesect can't normally learn any of these moves, which are all powerful, speedy attacks. It also has the Hasty nature, which boosts its speed, and arrives holding the Choice Scarf item, which increases its speed even further. Truly an Extremespeed Genesect.

There's more, too: You won't just get a Genesect for your video game in the theater, you'll also get a special Red Genesect Pokémon Tretta (limited to 3 million copies on a first-come-first-serve basis). The Tretta has 83 Poké-Ene, is Bug type, and uses the Bug-type move X-Scissor.

And that's still not all, as Red says he and the Genesect Army have another present to give away as well: The second set of Pokémon Scramble U NFC Figures (featuring Eievui, Mewtwo, Gureggru, Zoroark, Hitomoshi and Genesect) will be released May 25th, and in commemoration of that, a set of special Genesect Army NFC Figures have been made. They're a set of 5: the Red Genesect and 4 normal Genesect each with a different cassette slotted into the gun on their back. The set will be given away to 100 Pokémon Smash viewers who write in for the lottery. The deadline is May 29th.

As the show ended, the Genesect Army reminded everyone to submit their photos in order to join the Army. They then announced details on the presents that would be given out after they reach 1000 members: Once they hit the 1000 mark, 3 members will be given a Nintendo 3DSLL Eievui Edition, and 5 will be given a Download Card for Pokémon Scramble U, all 8 winners chosen via lottery.
May 12 2013 Pokémon Smash 135
Episode 135 of Pokémon Smash, Fighting Pokémon! The Big Battle! / The 'PokéSma Genesect Army' is Hard at Work Today as Well, Aiming for 1 Million Members! / Nymphia Nakagawa Appears!? / EbiChu Takes the Stage for the Pokémon Battle! (かくとうポケモン! だいバトル! / 軍団員100万人を目指す「ポケスマゲノセクト軍団」が今回も大活躍! / ニンフィア中川登場!? / ポケモンバトルにエビ中が登場!) aired yesterday.

As usual, the episode started the hosts greeting the viewers with a 'Pokémorning!', before Golgo introduced the "You Choose! The Pokémon Anime Requests" segment. Yamamoto had chosen today's request, which came from 6 year old Tomoaki Ajiki (安食 智朗) from Osaka. He had drawn a picture of Ebiwalar, which he thought looked really strong and cool because it was a boxer. Since he was boxing as well, he really wanted to see Ebiwalar's boxing match, and thus requested Pocket Monsters episode 29, Fighting Pokémon! The Big Battle! ( かくとうポケモン!だいバトル!). A summary of that can be found in our episode guide. Professor Red cut to the episode with "Ok! PokéReq GO!"

As we return from the rerun episode, it seems Professor Red and the International Division have disappeared. Red quickly announces his arrival, though, and what appears to be the Genesect Army in their Hi-Speed Morphs fly in in front of the camera. Golgo tells them to come forward already, and it's revealed that what we saw flying in front of the camera were papier-mache models held up by fishing rods.

The Genesect Army introduce themselves, and Golgo asks what they're going here, and how many members they've recruited thus far, since their goal was 1 million. Red explains that they've been having a bit of trouble, and that they've only managed to get 8 additional members thus far, but that they'll make sure to get at least 1000 total members before the day is up. As they set out to recruit more members, Golgo says he'll go with them this time, and joins them on their quest.

PokéSma Genesect Army: Dispatch!

Red explains that today's plan is to recruit various organizations in their entirety. As they walk through the city, Niccolo spots a soccer team heading for practice, and the Army decides to follow them to their practice hall. The team they followed is the kindergartener soccer team FC Ooizumi Gakuen (FC大泉学園), which has 28 players in total. Red explains to the coach that they want all the kids to join the Genesect Army in order to hype the upcoming movie. The coach says it'll get in the way of their training, so Niccolo suggests a 3-on-3 penalty kick contest; if the Army wins, the kids will all join.

The contest uses two goals lined up next to each other, with one point being awarded for each goal. The players from the Genesect Army also get to shoot from half the distance the soccer players do. Still, the soccer players manage to score on their two first attempts, while the Genesect Army players miss on both their first. Despite the Army losing, Golgo still manages to convince the coach to let the players join, and as such, the Genesect Army add another 28 members to their ranks.

The Eievui Akiyama Friends

Yamamoto and Baba once again visit the Eievui Akiyama House with questions from the viewers. They call on Eievui Akiyama, and give him the question of the day, sent by Tomoki Hayashi from Tokyo: "Does Nymphia live at the Eievui Akiyama House?" Just then, a fancy socialite walks up, eventually introducing herself as Nymphia Nakagawa. She hands them her overly flashy business car, as Eievui Akiyama explains that she's a proper lady. Baba asks her where she's moved here from, and she says she comes from Philadelphia. He then asks why she's at the Eievui Akiyama House when her name is Nakagawa, and Eievui Akiyama explains that she's just a friend of the house, and Yamamoto and Baba point out that adding Nymphia Nakagawa to the Eievui Akiyama House is going to help a lot in hyping the upcoming movie short.

Thumbnail
Click on image for higher resolution

Baba then finally asks the question that's been on everyone's mind, and that has been sent to the show so many times since Nymphia got revealed;

From Satomi of Hokkaido: "What type is Nymphia Nakagawa?"

She doesn't seem all that willing to answer, so Baba suggests they do some tests in order to figure it out. Yamamoto points out that out of the 17 possible Pokémon types, Nymphia Nakagawa isn't going to be any of those a previous Eievui evolution has, which deconfirms the Normal, Water, Electric, Fire, Psychic, Dark, Grass and Ice types right off the bat. First, they decide to let her show off some of her skills, to see if they can give a hint towards the type. Nymphia Nakagawa pulls out a pair of nunchaku from her bag and demonstrate some tricks with those, making Yamamoto guess that this means she's a Fighting type. Baba suggests having her fight a martial artist to make sure, and a martial artist wielding an empty oil drum walks in. He instantly defeats her, and Yamamoto concludes that she's probably not a Fighting type after all.

Thumbnail
Click on image for higher resolution

Next, Nymphia Nakagawa demonstrates her skill in breaking ice, an ability she seems to have confidence in despite appearing quite weak earlier. And sure enough, she manages to break a plate of ice with a single chop. Baba says that if she's strong against ice, that means she might be a Steel type, and Yamamoto says that would mean the Poison type would have no effect on her. As such, they run a test to see if she's immune against poison, putting her face into a box, and then injecting the smell from a piece of kusaya into it. She immediately starts choking and gagging from the smell, making it seem more like it's super effective. It appears it'll be hard to determine the type by running this type of tests.

As Baba and Yamamoto try to think of what to do next, Nymphia Nakagawa gets a phone call, and says she'll have to go, she just got invited to a party for the movie voice actors. Baba and Yamamoto ask if they can come as well, since they're trying to hype the movie, and both they and Eievui Akiyama go along with her.

In the meantime, Golgo and the Genesect Army have arrived at a practice of the mothers' choir group Chor Dolce (コール・ドルチェ), which numbers a total of 15 members. They greet the group with a "Pokémorning", but receive no reply, Golgo pointing out that they probably don't know the term. It turns out the choir isn't particularly familiar with Pokémon in the first place, but after Golgo and Red explain that they're trying to hype the upcoming movie, and want them to join the Genesect Army, they go along with it, saying it doesn't look like they have any other choice. The choir does a quick performance of the army's "Gene~" call, and the army has added another 15 members.

Eievui Akiyama, Yamamoto and Baba have followed Nymphia Nakagawa to her party, where they meet Takashi Yoshimura and Kenta Tokui from the comedy duo Heisei Nobushi Kobushi. Yamamoto asks where the voice actors are, and Nymphia Nakagawa points out that it's those two, and Yoshimura explains that they are going to do guest roles in the upcoming movie.

Yoshimura says he'll be playing the role of Eric, a Pokémon Hills guide, and that he'll have a good amount of lines were he guides Satoshi and friends through the area, and that this is an important role. They ask him to perform one of his lines, and he makes an attempt at reciting the line he has in the trailer, saying "この街が危ない!" ("This town is in danger!"). We're shown a clip from the trailer that shows the line was actually (このままでは街が危ない!) "At this rate, the town will be in danger!", but it's still impressive for an improptu recital. He then recites some lines that weren't in the trailer, "My name is Eric! I work at Pokémon Hills!", as well as the grunting Eric makes while running. Next up is Tokui, who says that while Yoshimura is playing a human, he's been cast as a Ishitsubute. While they haven't done any dubbing work on the movie itself yet, Tokui has practiced for the role, and does a quick impression of how he plans on playing it. The segment then ends with the two saying to make sure to watch the movie.
