The official Pokémon movie website has updated with the fifth part of the coverage of Yuyama's location scouting report, as well as information on this year's Meitetsu movie tie-in campaign. Translations follow:

Director Yuyama's Location Scouting Report

This time, Director Yuyama chose Canada as the country he would go scouting in. He went there in search of the landscapes where Yveltal would sleep, where Xerneas would hide, and Diancie would journey.

Part 5: The Canal and the Sluices
thumbnail

The scouting team take a walk along the side of the Rideau Canal, an area referred to as the "Rideau Heritage Route". Lots of sluices can be found throughout this area; due to the 25 meter height difference between the canal and the Ottawa River that lies beyond it, a complex structure of numerous sluices has been set up to adjust the water level.

A ship was setting off down the canal just as we arrived, and three nearby sluices were just about to open. We also saw the nearby bridge over the canal turn aside. Amazingly enough, there's a mechanism that makes the bridge move when a ship approaches. While this was going on, the bridge got closed to crossing cars for about 10 minutes.

At this time during fall, this scene only occurs once a day at a non-predetermined time, so we were very lucky we got to witness it.

The Meitetsu Stamp Rally 2014 Spring

thumbnail

Once again, a stamp rally will be held along the Nagoya Railroad ("Meitetsu"). During the "Meitetsu Stamp Rally 2014 Spring", children can gather stamps from 5 different locations along the railroad and use these to enter a lottery for great prizes. The more stamps you collect, the better prizes you can win. The 5 stamps can be found at the Meitetsu Ichinomiya Station Service Counter, the Inuyama Station Service Counter, the Pokémon Center Nagoya, Chiryu Station and Centrair International Airport. The stamp rally is held from March 21st to April 6th.

Like earlier years, a train sporting designs based on the upcoming Pokémon movie will also be running along the Meitetsu. The train running this year has been dubbed "The Pokémon XY". A video of the train in action can be found here, thanks to Youtuber suita66271050.

Collecting the stamp from the Pokemon Center Nagoya as well as one other location makes you eligible for two lotteries. 130 winners will receive a set of Pokémon-themed school supplies, while 20 winners will receive a set of 5 Pokemon plushies. Collecting all 5 stamps makes you eligible for the final lottery, where 5 winners will receive a Pocket Monsters X/Y Nintendo 3DS game. In addition, everyone who collects all 5 stamps will receive a special sticker.

Both seasoned Pokémon Trainers and newcomers to the games will enjoy playing with Electabuzz and Magmar, who appeared in the very first Pokémon video games, Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version. Pokémon Trading Card Game fans can also get in on the action with a free Pokémon TCG: XY special sampling pack available in store and while stocks last. All packs will include a special foil Pikachu card, plus one additional card from the Pokémon TCG: XY expansion. No purchase is necessary.

Pokémon TCG: XY launched on February 5 in the UK and includes all-new Mega Evolution Pokémon and new Fairy-type Pokémon. Since its release, the Pokémon Trading Card Game has shipped over 20 billion cards across 74 countries. The new Pokémon TCG: XY expansion is based on the best-selling Pokémon X and Pokémon Y video games for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

To support this exciting promotion, The Pokémon Company International is investing in a TV campaign to showcase the Pokémon universe, demonstrating how Pokémon TCG and video game content is part of the same world. Promotional spots will air from April 7 to April 27 on CiTV, Cartoon Network, Disney XD, and Sky Kids.

Part 4: To the Rideau Heritage Route
thumbnail

Our first destination this second day was Rideau Canal. This is a long canal, roughly 202 km in total, running from the capital Ottawa to the city of Kingston on Lake Ontario. Being that it is the oldest canal in North America, it was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2007.

The entire surrounding area is known as the "Rideau Heritage Route", and old towns dating back to the 19th century, the period when the canal was constructed, can be found throughout the area.

We immediately got off the bus for a walk near the canal, but we got really surprised by how cold it was. We had been told Canadian mornings and evenings are really cold at this time of the year, but still...

Some days back, the official Pokémon movie website has updated with information on the upcoming Darkrai distribution, as well as the third part of the coverage of Yuyama's location scouting report. Translations follow:

Director Yuyama's Location Scouting Report

This time, Director Yuyama chose Canada as the country he would go scouting in. He went there in search of the landscapes where Yveltal would sleep, where Xerneas would hide, and Diancie would journey.

Part 3: Setting off Into the Morning Mist
thumbnailthumbnailthumbnail

The second day is when our scouting started for real. We has our breakfast and checked out of our hotel at 7am, and eventually set off at 8. This morning, the entire city was shrouded in thick mist, and we couldn't see anything of the surrounding scenery. Morning mist like this appears to be common in November and December.

The bus carrying our group set off into the mist, following a long, straight road into the mountains. As the mist eventually cleared, a forest filled with trees beautifully colored red, orange and yellow came into view. We were right in the middle of the season for colored leaves.

As we gazed at the red maple leaves, which are also depicted on the Canadian flag, the bus rolled into our first destination for the day; Rideau Canal.

Darkrai
Level: 50
Ability: Bad Dreams
Moves: Dark Void, Dark Pulse, Phantom Force, Dream Eater
Held Item: Enigma Berry
Ball: Precious Ball
Ribbon: Wish Ribbon

The Darkrai being given out this year is a Dark-type mythical Pokémon that comes with a move it has never been able to learn and its very unique Ability. Check out the below info:

Its varied attacks will render its opponents as mere playthings!
thumbnailthumbnail
thumbnailthumbnail

Dark Void
A move only Darkrai can learn, a mighty move that puts multiple opponents to sleep at the same time!!
Dark Pulse
A Dark type move that can make the opponent flinch. Since it is of the same type as Darkrai, its power increases by 50%.
Phantom Force
A Ghost type move that Darkrai can't normally learn! A move where the user disappears on the first turn and attacks on the second, and which hits even if the opponent uses a move like "King's Shield" or "Protect"
Dream Eater
A Psychic type move that only takes effect if the opponent is asleep. In addition to healing HP equal to half the inflicted damage, it is super effective against Fighting type Pokémon, which Darkrai is weak against.

Decrease opponents' HP with the Ability "Bad Dreams"!
thumbnail

"Bad Dreams", an Ability exclusive to Darkrai, is a powerful Ability that decreases the HP of all sleeping Pokémon by a little bit every single turn! By using "Dark Void" to put all Pokémon to sleep, it's possible to deal damage to all Pokémon at once!

Recover HP with the normally unobtainable "Enigma Berry"!
thumbnail

Its held item is the "Enigma Berry" (ナゾのみ), which can't be normally obtained in the game. This is the first time a Pokémon holding this berry is distributed to "Pocket Monsters X/Y"! The "Enigma Berry" is a berry that recovers HP when you receive damage from a super effective move. Since Darkrai now also takes super effective damage from moves of the new Fairy type introduced in "Pocket Monsters X/Y", holding this berry is a good counter tactic.
*Be aware that the "Enigma Berry" will disappear if used during your adventure. However, it can safely be used without it disappearing when used in link battles, the Battle House, etc.

Part 2: Arrival in the capital, Ottawa
thumbnailthumbnailthumbnail

The scouting team first landed in the capital of Canada, Ottawa. They arrived at 2PM Canadian time, and despite being exhausted from their 15 hour flight, immediately set off for their first destination, Confederation Square.

If you continue walking for a while as you look up at the giant monument made from white granite, you will see a humongous, elegant building in Gothic style. This is the Parliament, the symbol of Ottawa.

This whole area is filled with historical buildings like Rideau Hall and the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, and the city itself is made up of clean and well-regulated streets.

Since this is also the governmental center of Canada, the atmosphere is a bit stiff and formal, but we got a bit more relaxed when we spotted pieces of tickets to the nearby museum stuck to a traffic light.

Our first day in Canada started with some serious atmosphere.
