Summary
Ash and co. have arrived at Slateport City. The first place they go is the Pokémon Center. Inside the Pokémon Center are many trainers that will also be competing in the Pokémon contest. There is only two weeks left before the contest. Ash asks May if she is ready for the contest. May says she is, but she could still use some practice.

Ash and co. head over to the beach. Brock is interested in the girls. Max wants to go swimming, and May wants to practice for her contest. May spins and sends out Beautifly. Beautifly comes out with a great opening. May, on the other hand, spent too much time on her spin because now she is dizzy. Then May throws three frisbees at Beautifly. Beautifly blows them with Gust, however a sandstorm whips up covering everyone. Ash and co. go in a different spot. The final thing Beautilfy does is Silver Wind, although the attack isn't 100% effective yet. Max doesn't think May should use that attack in the contest. May tells him that if Beautifly could use the attack, then she would score big points. Ash tells May that she just has to keep practicing it.

May takes it from the top again. She throws the three frisbees at Beautifly. Beautifly uses Gust to blows the frisbees into the air. May catches two of the frisbees, but last one heads to a person standing on the sidelines. The person catches the frisbee and throws it back to May. The boy walks down towards May and mocks her Pokémon. His name is Drew. He tells her that her Pokémon are weak and that she has no moves. May gets angry at Drew for making fun of her Pokémon. Drew thinks that May should just leave and not enter the contest. Ash and co. decide to get away from Drew. May asks Drew if he is entering the contest. Drew is indeed entering the contest.

Meowth watches the burning anticipation between May and Drew. James admires the beach. Jessie is training her Dustox for the Pokémon contest. James and Meowth are surprised that Jessie plans on entering the contest. Jessie tells her Dustox to use Poison Sting. It uses a great Poison Sting attack.

May wants to have a practice battle with Ash. Brock is the judge of the battle. The battle begins. Beautifly uses Tackle, but Taillow dodges the attack. Then Taillow charges towards Beautifly with Peck, but Beautifly dodges that. Finally, Beautifly uses String Shot. The threads wrap around Taillow's body. Then Beautifly uses Gust to blow Taillow the ground. Ash orders Taillow to break free from the threads. While Taillow is busy doing that, May is getting nervous. She doesn't know what to do next. Beautifly tries Silver Wind, but attack fails. When Taillow finally does break free, it strikes Beautifly with Tackle. Taillow wins the battle.

May runs over to Beautifly and makes sure that it is alright. A man walks up to Ash. He asks Ash if he is planning on participating in the Pokémon contest. May tells him that she is. The man's name is Mr. Big. He remembers the times when he first started Pokémon contests. He was very nervous. Ash and co. introduce themselves to Mr. Big. May wants Mr. Big to teach her everything about contests. Mr. Big starts off by saying the most important thing is to stay calm. If a trainer is nervous, the Pokémon can sense this and end up failing. Meanwhile, Torchic wonders off. It approaches a building and walks iniside. The next thing Mr. Big teaches May is that a Pokémon's diet is important. He gives May a Pokeblock Case. Mr. Big wants to show Ash and co. something. They walk back to his shop.

Team Rocket wonders what Mr. Big is planning to show them. They decide to follow Ash and co. to find out. Mr. Big explains to Ash and co. that his job is to make fireworks. His specialty is Pokémon fireworks. They walk up to the same place that Torchic was at. Mr. Big tells them that he has to show the manager some samples of his fireworks by tonight. May sees Torchic coming out of the building. It's mouth is black.

It appears that Torchic ate Mr. Big's box of Bluk Berries. May scolds Torchic for doing this. Mr. Big is disappointed because he was planning on using the Bluk Berries to increase the quality of his fireworks. May promises to retrieve more Bluk Berries for Mr. Big before his performance can start. Team Rocket is hearing the conversation from the outside of the building. They want to find some Bluk Berries and give it to the boss.

Ash and co. can't find Bluk Berries anywhere. Ash asks May where Torchic is at. May gets scared because she doesn't know where Torchic is at. They all call out for Torchic. Torchic has found some Bluk berries, but the berries are on a tree. Torchic tries to climb the tree, but it is too high for Torchic. Torchic tries extra hard to climb the tree. It lands on the branch, but not Torchic is stuck. Ash and co. see Torchic on the tree. They are happy that Torchic found Bluk berries. The branch that is holding Torchic snaps. May sends out Beautifly. Beautifly uses String Shot to bring Torchic to safety. Drew walks up to May. He is holding the branch that carries the Bluk berries. May demands that Drew gives the berries back. Drew agrees to give the berries back to May if she can beat him in a battle. May accepts Drew's challenge.

May sends out Beautifly, and Drew sends out Roselia. Ash looks up Roselia in his Pokédex. Beautifly uses Tackle, but Roselia uses Petal Dance to counter. Beautifly gets hurt from the Petal Dance. Then Roselia fires out a Stun Spore. Beautifly falls to the ground. Drew expected more from May. Ash tells May that she has to calm down. Drew commands Roselia to finish the battle off with Magical Leaf. Roselia prepares the attack. May calms down a bit. With some confidence, she orders Beautifly to use Silver Wind. This time the attack is successful.

Suddenly, a line is casted out. It hooks onto the Bluk berries. James reels the Bluk berries towards him. Team Rocket comes out and they say their motto. Then Team Rocket begins to float away in their balloon. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, but Team Rocket blocks the attack off with their little machine. Their machine blocks off all electricity. A Solarbeam is then fired destroying Team Rocket's machine. May turns around and finds out that the attack came from Drew's Roselia. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt again, and Roselia uses Solarbeam. Both attacks hit Team Rocket, and they blast off into the sky.

Torchic rescues the Bluk berries. May thanks Torchic. Then May faces Drew. Drew tells her that they will battle in a real contest sometime soon. Mr. Big gives his presentation at night. The manager enjoys Mr. Big's fireworks a lot. In the sky are pictures of Pikachu, Pichu, Torchic, Mudkip, and Treecko. May is now more determined than ever to do her best in the upcoming Pokémon contest.

English Official Summary

Ash and the gang have arrived at Slateport City and May is busy getting her Beautifly ready for the Pokémon Contest. Beautifly is having some trouble using its Silver Wind attack. A boy starts heckling May saying that she has a long way to go to win contests. Team Rocket is nearby and Jessie is busy training her Dustox, which is equally unprepared for the contest. After May and Ash have a practice battle using Beautifly and Taillow, a man approaches Ash—not May—complimenting him on his battling style and introduces himself as a Pokémon Contest expert and also a berry expert. He goes into an explanation of PokéBlocks and their uses in contests. He even gives May a PokéBlock Case. He offers to show them how to make berry blocks. When they arrive at the building they discover that Torchic beat them there and ate all the Bluk berries, so they decide to go find some replacement Bluk berries. Team Rocket, meanwhile is devising a plan to steal the berries and the Pokémon. The gang ends up only finding one Bluk berry, which is also found by the boy who was heckling May earlier. May and the heckler, whose name she finds out is Drew, start a match only to have Team Rocket try to steal the berry. Drew's Roselia and Ash's Pikachu stop Team Rocket's getaway and they recover the berry. The episode ends with the entire group happily watching fireworks.

A pyrotechnician named Hanabishi watches her training and tells her about "Bry berries", which can make a Pokémon's fur more glossy when eaten. He says he'll give her some, and the group heads to Hanabishi's storage to get them, but...
