Summary
It's a bright sunny day and the narrator says a few words. Ash and the gang are traveling on a boat to Mossdeep City. Their conversation gets interrupted by a Spoink floating on a log. They wonder if it's the same Spoink before and it is. A big wave comes crashing down knocking Spoink off the log. Ash tells the captain to stop the ship and they use a life preserver to save Spoink. Spoink happily bounces but then it trips on the life preserver. Spoink falls to the edge of the ship and its pearl gets knocked into the water. Everyone including Spoink freaks out.

Everyone stares out and wonders of what to do. Spoink sees a round floating device and uses its psychic powers to put it on its head. Ash comes and takes it off its head and tells it that the floating device isn't its pearl. Torkoal starts to cry and jumps into the water. It sinks down and Max says that Torkoal can't swim. So Ash dives into the water to rescue Torkoal. Pikachu sighs and Ash brings Torkoal back up.

Ash then takes out Corphish and Brock takes out Mudkip. Ash tells Corphish and Mudkip to look for Spoink's pearl. Brock then takes out Lombre too but Lombre just does a few back strokes in the water. Meanwhile, Corphish and Mudkip continue to look for Spoink's pearl. They look behind some rocks but it's not there. They both surface and they tell Ash that they didn't find it.

They get to an island and look at the water. A boy and his Azurill then run by. Spoink uses its psychic powers to put the Azurill on its head. They boy start to crys. Brock takes the Azurill off Spoink's head. Spoink then puts a Swablu, Castform, and Wailmer on its head.

A guy comes and asks them what's wrong. He then notices that Spoink's pearl is missing. The guy then tells them that a Clamperl could help them. In his lab, he tells them that his name is Aizaya. The go see a group of Clamperl on rocks. May looks up the Clamperl in her Pokédex. Aizaya then tells them about his research between Spoink and Clamperl. Spoink notices a blue pearl and jumps up and down. Aizaya tells them that blue pearls are very rare and that he's going to study it some more.

Ash and his friends walk down the sandy beach. A girl with her Shroomish come running up and Spoink puts the Shroomish on top of its head. May takes the Shroomish off of Spoink's head and she gives it back to the girl.

Jessie and James peak inside the lab and they see the blue pearl. They walk inside and they plan to give the pearl to the boss. They lift up the case to the pearl and the pearl starts to float. Spoink comes and steals the pearl.

Ash, May, Brock, and Max call out for Spoink because they notice that it's missing. They hear a noise and they rush into the lab. Team Rocket is dressed as janitors and Aizaya tells Ash that Spoink took off with the pearl. Jessie and James start to talk and then they get back to work. They plan to get Spoink back.

May sends out her Beautifly and Ash sends out Swellow. They tell the Pokémon to look for Spoink. Team Rocket is behind some bushes and they plan to steal the pearl.

Spoink is bouncing on the road and the girl and boy with the Shroomish and Azurill come along. Spoink trips and the pearl falls off and the pearl bounces against the rocks. The pearl lands in a Clamperl and a pink pearl that the Clamperl was holding gets bounced onto Spoink. So now the Clamperl has the blue pearl. Spoink continues to bounce and Beautifly tells May that it found Spoink. They find Spoink and they notice that it has a pink pearl instead of a blue one. The boy and girl come along and they tell Ash what happened.

Team Rocket is standing on a tree and they plan to steal Spoink, the Clamperl, and the blue pearl.

Ash and the gang meet up with the Clamperl. However, the shell to the Clamperl is closed up. Spoink talks to it and the shell to the Clamperl opens up. May talks to Clamperl and she asks for the blue pearl back. Suddenly, a bomb falls causing an explosion. The source is Team Rocket and they say their motto. Jessie sends out Seviper and Ash sends out Torkoal. Seviper uses Bite but Torkoal uses Iron Defense. Torkoal then uses Flamethrower but Seviper dodges it. Seviper then uses Haze. Everyone starts to run and look for Clamperl. James has Clamperl in a bag and they take off. When the haze clears up, Clamperl has gone missing.

James didn't get Spoink but he did get Clamperl. Its shell is closed though. Jessie taps Clamperl's shell and it opens up. The shell then closes again. James tries to open the shell with his hands but it doesn't open. They then try to sweet talk Clamperl but nothing happens. Meowth then suggests to not give the Clamperl to the boss. Meowth also suggests that they tickle Clamperl. They start to and Clamperl's shell opens up. Meowth tries to tickle it with his tail but Clamperl shell snaps shut with Meowth's tail in it. Meowth screams. James pulls out his cards and tells them that Clamperl is doing its Clamp attack. Clamperl lets go of Meowth and then it closes its shell again. James then gets an idea. He takes out his Chimecho and he tells it to sing to Clamperl. It does but nothing happens. Jessie screams and Chimecho gets scared. It wraps itself against James and James calls it back. Then Jessie starts to talk to it but Clamperl sprays Jessie with water. Jessie gets really mad now and tries to open its shell with her hands.

Swellow is above and it spots Team Rocket. It flies back to Ash and it tells him that he found Team Rocket.

Jessie and James have taken to sticks and they have popped them inside Clamperl's shell. Now they are trying to pry it open. Ash and the others come and Spoink uses its psychic attack to knock Team Rocket away from Clamperl. The group then runs to Clamperl and asks if it's okay. Jessie brings out her Dustox and James takes out Cacnea which starts to hug James. Ash takes out Grovyle. Dustox uses Tackle and Grovyle uses Quick Attack. Grovyle's Quick Attack was stronger and it slams into Dustox. Cacnea uses Pin Missle towards Clamperl but Spoink stops the Pin Missle with its psychic powers. Grovyle uses Bullet Seed against Dustox and Spoink uses Psybeam against Cacnea. Dustox then comes back with a Poison Sting but Grovyle dodges it. Grovyle comes back with a Leaf Blade and it hits Dustox. Cacnea then uses Needle Arm but Spoink uses Psybeam again. Both of Team Rocket's Pokémon faint. To finish things off Clamperl uses Hydro Pump which sends Team Rocket in the air.

Everyone cheers. Then Spoink and Ash ask if Clamperl would give the blue pearl back to Aizaya. Clamperl agrees to trade in the blue pearl for the pink pearl. So Spoink uses its psychic powers to switch pearls. Now Spoink doesn't have a pearl. However, Clamperl agrees to give its pink pearl back to Spoink. Spoink happily cheers and it uses its psychic powers to take the pearl from Clamperl. It then places it on top of its head. Spoink happily bounces around. They then continue their way to Mossdeep City.
