Summary
On the ferry is Ash and co. heading for Trovita Island. Ash wants to challenge the gym leader and win his third badge. Ash sees some spiky things near the water. Tracey tells him that they formed years ago. They see a girl and her Seel drowning. A boy at the top of the island is looking for the girl. Using binoculars, he sees Misty and her Staryu dive into the water. Misty gathers up the girl and Seel. Ash shouts out to Misty to come towards Lapras. The boy sees Misty and says that she's great. Team Rocket is in their Magikarp sub again. Jessie has spotted Ash and co., and they head up towards them. Jessie notices that they are not moving. The Magikarp sub gets caught in a whirlpool. Misty tells the girl not to swim alone again.

When they reach the island, the boy gives the girl a hug. Apparently, the girl's name is Maurie. The boy thanks them for saving his sister. Then he goes up to Misty and asks for her name. When Misty responds, he snaps his fingers and a bunch of flowers are presented to her. He snaps his fingers again and music starts to play. He takes Misty's arm and tells her some nice comments. He also mentions that he is the gym leader on the island. Ash tells the boy that he wants to battle him. The boy introduces himself as Rudy, and he tells Ash that he first has to pass a test. Maurie wishes Ash good luck.

Ash and co. gets into a boat. Rudy tells Ash that he has to knock down all the targets with his Pokémon in order to pass the test. A target comes Ash's way. Pikachu destroys it with Thundershock. When Ash looks back of him, he sees Rudy giving Misty a bouquet of flowers. Ash sends out Charizard, which Flamethrowers Rudy and Misty. Rudy and Misty are mad at Ash because he can't control his Pokémon. Team Rocket appears from their sub. They see that they are in a different place. Meowth thinks that they are in the Trovita River. Then Jessie spots Ash and co. heading their way. A target appears right in front of Team Rocket. Squirtle uses Water Gun on the target, and the tree falls over, sending Team Rocket into the air. Pikachu, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur work together to destroy the last few targets.

At the Pokémon Center, Rudy tells Ash that they will have a battle tomorrow. If Ash can beat him best 2 out of 3, then he will obtain a badge. Rudy invites Misty for dinner. Maurie says that Rudy is a great cook, and Misty agrees to join them.

Ash gives Professor Oak a call. Professor Oak reminds him not to get over confident. Tracey shows a drawing to Professor Oak about a Pokémon he saw in the woods. Tracey thinks that it might be a new kind of Pokémon. Meanwhile, Misty thanks Rudy for the dinner. Maurie tells Misty that she wishes that Misty could be her sister because she's the only girl on the island. Maurie suggests that Misty can become her sister. Rudy decides to change the topic, and she shows Misty all of their Pokémon. Misty notices that all of the Pokémon are dancing. Rudy tells her that he thinks Pokémon should do different things besides battling. Maurie dances with Togepi while Rudy and Misty dance together. Rudy hopes that Misty can stay on the island for good, but Misty is unsure about that.

Team Rocket is stuck on the wooden pole that surrounds the island. They are trying to keep the sub balanced so that they don't fall off. Some of Jessie's hair gets near Meowth's nose. Meowth sneezes, and they go back into the whirlpool.

The next day arrives, and the group takes a parachute to the battle arena. When they arrive at the arena, Ash and Rudy face each other. Ash challenges Rudy to a battle. Rudy doesn't think that Ash will win. He tells Ash to choose an electric Pokémon first. Ash chooses Pikachu, and Rudy chooses Electabuzz. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on Electabuzz, but the attack had no effect on the Pokémon. Ash sees that Pikachu's electric attacks won't damage Electabuzz in any way. Pikachu uses Quick Attack next, but Electabuzz protects itself with electricity. Then Electabuzz scores a direct hit on Pikachu with a Thunderpunch. Pikachu is about to fall off the arena, but Ash saves it just in time. Rudy wins the first round.

The second match is with grass Pokémon. Ash selects Bulbasaur, and Rudy sends out Exeggutor. Some music starts playing. Bulbasaur uses Razor Leaf, but Exeggutor dodges the attack. Bulbasaur tries again, but the Exeggutor keeps on dodging. Tracey sees that the Exeggutor is dancing. Then Exeggutor releases an Egg Bomb attack. Bulbasaur fires a Sleep Powder attack at Exeggutor, and Exeggutor falls asleep. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is climbing the same cliff to meet up with Ash and co. Exeggutor falls off the cliff, and it crashes into Team Rocket. Two vines grabs onto Exeggutor, but Team Rocket falls back into the water. Bulbasaur brings Exeggutor back up to safety. Ash wins the second round.

The final match is with water Pokémon. Rudy sends out Starime for battle. He dedicates this battle to Misty. Ash sends out Squirtle. Starmie starts the battle off with a Water Gun. Squirtle uses Water Gun too and both attacks collides into each other. The music starts to play again, and Rudy and Starmie begin to dance. Starmie spins so fast that it creates a Thunderbolt. The attack hits Squirtle. Misty shouts to Ash that he can beat Rudy again. Rudy is surprised that Misty wants Ash to win. Squirtle uses Water Gun on the ground, which sends him into the air. Squirtle is about to fall into the water, but it gets into its shell and Hydro Pumps its way back up. Tracey is surprised that Squirtle learned Hydro Pump. Squirtle uses Hydro Pump again which weakens Starmie. With a final Skull Bash attack, Starmie is defeated. Ash has defeated Rudy. Ash congratulates his Squirtle because now he is one step closer in getting into the Orange League.

Rudy presents Ash a Spike Shell Badge. Ash gladly takes the badge from Rudy. Rudy, knowing that Misty won't stay with him, gives Misty a bouquet of flowers. Misty thanks Rudy for them. Rudy tells Ash that he is a very lucky guy, but Ash doesn't know what he means. They say goodbye to each other, and Ash and co. are off again on Lapras.

This is my favorite episode in series of Pokemon Orange Islands. I liked that Rudy treated Misty kindly.
