Summary

English Official Summary

The further you journey, the hungrier you get. On empty stomachs, our heroes' search for food brings them to a small village, but find there is no food at the bakery nor at the grocery store; even the town restaurant is out of food. Just as our hungry heroes lose the energy even to move, the town elder arrives and offers to feed them. He explains to them that a drought has made it impossible to gather a harvest in the village, but cannot explain why they suffer from drought even though it rains often. In return for the meal, our heroes follow the dry riverbed upstream, investigating the cause of the drought.

Script Error

The narrator in the Japanese original states the group is taking it easy and Pikachu is taking a nap. The English dub narrator though makes it seem like Pikachu is slacking off.

The Japanese original also has a pun on chuu (中) and the chu (チュウ) from Pikachu. Chuu is the continuation of an activity or a time period and in this case, Pikachu is still napping.

Narrator: And once again the ever-vigilant Pikachu keeps a careful watch for trouble... Sort of.
Narrator Translation: Since there's no particular reason to hurry, even Pikachu is taking a relaxing nap atop a backpack.

The English dub makes the old man into a 1960/70's hippie despite the original Japanese old man just talking like an older person. Misty in the English dub randomly asks him if he is by himself while Kasumi just wonders what he's doing.

Script Error

The dialog after Team Rocket's idea was also changed significantly. The noble vs prince change returns but is taken a step farther as Ash compares Misty's Horsea to a prince's horse. Satoshi specifically states in the Japanese original that Kasumi's Tattu has the right mouth shape for kissing. Kasumi's line is also changed as she originally said she didn't want to send out Tattu without any water around whereas Misty objects instead to the idea of Horsea having to kiss Snorlax.

Summary:
Traveling makes you hungry. Completely starved, Satoshi and his friends arrive in a village in search of food. However, neither the bakery nor the greengrocery have any food at all, nor do the restaurants.

Completely bewildered and too hungry to even move, the group is approached by the village elder, who treats them to a meal. At the elder's house, they learn that the village hasn't been able to harvest any crops due to a drought, though they don't understand why this would be the case, since it has been raining.

Wanting to pay the elder back for treating them, the group starts heading up the dried-out river to investigate, hoping to find the cause of this.
