Summary
Ash is cleaning the GS Ball, and Misty is playing with Togepi. Something is coming towards them. They think it's a motorboat, but Tracey realizes that it's a kayak being rowed by Nurse Joy. Ash doesn't believe Tracey, but Tracey knows what he saw. Ash tells Lapras to follow the boat. They arrive at an island. Tracey is examining the footprints. One set belongs to a Chansey, while the other set belongs to a woman. Tracey runs off to follow the footprints. Ash returns Lapras, and he and Misty runs to catch up with Tracey. Tracey follows the footprints, but then they stop. Tracey recalls back and says that the Nurse Joy he saw looked more muscular. A Magikarp emerges from the water. Ash and co. moves out of the way as the Magikarp hits the land. Everyone recovers from the incident. The Magikarp is gigantic. Fortunately, all the Magikarp can do is splash around. Tracey measures the Magikarp, and concludes that it is almost 10 feet long! The Magikarp is going to die if it doesn't get back in the water. Because the Magikarp is flopping around, no one can do anything.

Nurse Joy and Chansey walks up to them. She says that the Magikarp is running low on Calcium. She calms Magikarp down by petting it. Chansey drops some Calcium tablets in Magikarp's mouth. Then she picks up the Magikarp, and throws it back in the water. Ash and co. admires her strength. Magikarp and Nurse Joy exchange kisses with each other, and then it swims away. Tracey doesn't think that Nurse Joy owns a Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy tells them that she travels from island to island to help Pokémon. Ash and co. introduces themselves to Nurse Joy. Ash's stomach grumbles. Nurse Joy invites them all for lunch. Ash is happy that they get a free lunch.

Everyone is at Nurse Joy's house eating sandwiches. After lunch, they decide to watch Nurse Joy take care of the Pokémon. Nurse Joy is checking up on Lapras. Chansey gives Lapras some vitamins. Nurse Joy tells Ash that Lapras will be find after a long rest. Ash and co. thanks Nurse Joy for helping them out. They all start to paddle the kayaks. Nurse Joy is going pretty fast, but Ash and Misty are going slow. Tracey is speeding up. Nurse Joy has gone so far out, that now Ash and co. are lost. Nurse Joy is at the next island healing the Pokémon. The trainers thank her for the kind work. They paddle to the next islands, and they help the Pokémon.

Ash and co. swims up to Nurse Joy's kayak. Nurse Joy and Chansey are not inside the kayak. They wonder where she could be. Tracey wonders if a Gyarados might've hurt her. A pink ball floats to the top of the water. The pink ball looks similar to Chansey. The pink ball turns out to be Jigglypuff. They scream, and they paddle away as fast as they can. Ash and co. are tired from the amount of pedaling. Then Nurse Joy and Chansey pops out from the water. Nurse Joy apologizes that she disappeared. She was just healing a Cloyster. Nurse Joy tells Chansey to get their kayak because the current pulled them away from it. Ash and Tracey wonders how Nurse Joy heals Pokémon that are under the water. Nurse Joy takes them along for a swim.

They watch Nurse Joy heal a sick Shellder. Tracey is very impressed at Nurse Joy's work. Suddenly Ash loses his air, and starts to swim to the top. However, a Dewgong grabs Ash and carries him away.

At the house, Nurse Joy apologizes for bringing Ash unprepared. She explains that the Dewgong was only trying to play with Ash. Tracey asks if it would be eaiser to just work in a Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy tells a story about her childhood.

When she was a girl, Nurse Joy found a Magikarp that was hurt. Nurse Joy took Magikarp home, and she took care of it. When Magikarp was healed, Nurse Joy brought the Magikarp back into the ocean. When she went fishing, she fell in the water, but the same Magikarp saved her. Nurse Joy's story ends. That's the reason why she wants to dedicate her life to Pokémon, especially ones without trainers. The Magikarp that they saw earlier today was the same one Nurse Joy had found. The story proves that people and Pokémon can be friends for their whole lives.

Nurse Joy has to make one more stop before she is done for the day. Ash apologizes for throwing Nurse Joy off her schedule. The winds are blowing, and Tracey says that a hurricane can occur with these high winds. Nurse Joy understands how dangerous it can be, but she tells him that a group of Seel are hurt. Tracey tries to convince Nurse Joy to come back, but Nurse Joy doesn't listen to him. Tracey looks at the cloudy sky and rough sea. He decides to go with Nurse Joy. Ash decides to go to, dragging Misty along as well.

The storm has gotten rough, and the waves get bigger. Nurse Joy is still paddling along. Ash and co. are right behind her, but a big tidal wave knocks them out of their kayaks. Nurse Joy tells everyone to send out their water Pokémon. According to her, there's an island nearby, and they can rest there. Ash sends out Squirtle, Tracey sends out Marill, and Misty sends out Staryu. Psyduck pops out too. Psyduck can't even swim, and Misty sighs. When they make it to the island, everyone apologizes to Nurse Joy for causing trouble. Nurse Joy forgives them. Once they rest up, they can visit the Seel.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket is spying on Ash and co. from their sub. They plan to grab Pikachu and Chansey. Meowth is confident that they will win because of his secret weapon. A net flies out from their sub. Ash and co. are trapped. Team Rocket laughs. They say their motto. Ash wants Team Rocket to leave them alone. Nurse Joy is worried because of the sick Seel. Nurse Joy tries to pull on the net, but it doesn't break. She prays that something will happen. Then Magikarp swims up, and it hits the sub. Magikarp tackles the sub again. Meowth isn't worried because their sub is made out of metal. Magikarp tries to break the sub, but it isn't strong enough. Suddenly, Magikarp glows with a white light. It evolves into a Gyarados. With its tail, Gyarados sends Team Rocket off into the sky. Gyarados roars at Ash, but Nurse Joy calms Gyarados down. Then Gyarados takes the net off of Ash and co. Ash is surprised that Gyarados didn't attack them.

Nurse Joy sprays some medicine on a Seel. The treatment is over, and all the Seel are happy. It seems that the Calcium tablets and the battle with Team Rocket is what Gyarados needed. Nurse Joy and Gyarados get along together just fine. Tracey is sketching a picture of Nurse Joy and Gyarados. If everyone treated Pokémon with love and respect, the world would be perfect. Nurse Joy tells Ash that he should travel to Navel Island because there's a gym over there. He can earn his second badge at the gym. Ash and co. rides on Lapras to Navel Island.
