English Official Summary

On their way to the Sunyshore Gym and Ash's next battle, our heroes come across their friend Barry. He shows off all eight of the Badges he's earned, which prove he's ready to compete in the Sinnoh League! Paul is on the scene, too, and he's also won eight Badges. Barry challenges Paul to a battle on the spot, but Paul refuses, suggesting Barry battle Ash instead. Barry would rather take on Paul, but when Barry discovers that Ash has previously battled Paul in a full battle, he changes his mind and challenges Ash. Meanwhile, Team Rocket has decided to try a new approach: catch the heroes first to get them out of the way, and then catch their Pokémon. It appears to work! Pikachu, Piplup, and Barry's Empoleon are caught and held captive. But, while Barry and Ash are battling, Monferno becomes enraged, thanks to an out-of-control Blaze ability! Ash reasons with Monferno to calm it down, only to get a big surprise when it evolves into Infernape! Infernape saves Pikachu, Piplup, and Empoleon, and proves to be a powerful and quick Pokémon in its own right. Paul tells Ash he will battle him in the upcoming Sinnoh League. But first, Ash knows he must set his sights on winning his eighth Badge at the Sunyshore Gym!

Portuguese Official Summary

Kojiro asks his fellow Rocket Gang members to pray with him for their previous failed plans. They all close their hands to act like they are praying. Kojiro specifically states 'mokutou' (黙祷) which is a silent prayer. In the English, version James just asked them to have a moment of silence, yet they still keep the praying movements.

English Dub
James: But although our industriousness has been a solid ten, our net results have amounted to less than zip.
James: A silent moment to honor our failures, please.

Japanese
Kojiro: Regardless of our hard struggles and efforts, countless attempts to carry out our evil deeds have failed.
Kojiro: Let's send a silent prayer to the fallen plans.
04:09

Paint Edit

Later on in the same Team Rocket scene, the English dub adds a pun on the word 'train'. It's uncertain why Jessie and Meowth would refer to trains negatively. The Japanese version just makes Nyarth and Musashi a bit confused with Kojiro's new plans.

English Dub
James: Ergo, we need to reverse our train of thought.
Meowth and Jessie: Please, no more trains...

Japanese
Kojiro: Conclusion: We must revolutionize the concept.
Rockets: I don't get it...
04:34

Culture Reference

Yet another train reference. Meowth also expands the train references with a pun based of the story "The Little Engine that Could". The Japanese version is a bit more subdued and to the point as Musashi and Nyarth are impressed with Kojiro's idea for a new strategy for catching Pokémon.

English
James: It's "Operation Trainin Reverse."
Jessie: Ooh! The joys of traveling by train.
Meowth: We'll be known as the Team Rocket that could.

Japanese
Kojiro: I call it the "Kojiro's revolutionized concept"-strategy.
Musashi: Wow, you're so smart, Kojiro!
Nyarth: Let's execute the plan immediately!
09:43

Script Error

The English dub get's its math a bit wrong when Barry states how many rounds and Pokémon they will use. The dub was trying to imply that it will be 3 rounds with a total of 3 Pokémon used during those 3 rounds, 1 in each round, but that isn't what Barry states. He says there will be 3, 3-on-3 battle rounds for a total of 9 Pokémon for each of them and a total of 18 Pokémon would need to be used. The Japanese version is very specific on this point as Jun states there would be 3 rounds of 1 on 1 so that it wouldn't make the mistake that the dub did.

Barry: This'll be a three-round, three-on-three battle, okay?
Jun: Our battle will consist of three one-on-one matches.
14:00

Culture Reference

James brings up the whole train situation once again. Meowth also refers to the capsules that capture the gang as 'people balls'. Team Rocket also references the popular song "Twist and Shout" whereas the Japanese version just concludes with their Sinnoh catch phrase.

English Version
James: We're reversing our train of thought.
James: With you twerpish trainers put away, Team Rocket's free to play.
Meowth: Those people balls are what I'm talking about, they'll keep you twerpies from getting out!
Jessie: While your three Pokémon are safe with us, don't you pout.
Team Rocket: Twist and shout!

Japanese
Kojiro: This is what I call a revolutionized concept!
Kojiro: Now that we've prevented the Trainers from moving, the victory is ours!
Nyarth: These capsules have an unfriendly construction which can't be broken from the inside!
Musashi: With that, we got three trophies for today...
Rockets: ...and feel good!

This was an absolutely fantastic episode. It evolving after controlling Blaze almost "proved" in a way that it was ready for it, and the fact that Shinji commented on it was good too. It was good to see Satoshi and Shinji getting along, to a degree, and Shinji acknowledging their power when discussing the Pok

Some really strange edits in this episode. I might be missing some weird reference, but I really don't see how trains get into this episode at all. Just some random thing the dub people came up with. The last time there was a train in DP was in DP130 when Handsome was giving out the box lunches and there wasn't anything in that episode that would make Jessie and Meowth refer to trains negatively.

Edits added to the database: http://www.pocketmonsters.net/episodes/1063#Edits

Though not quite an 'edit', Paul states 'No!' and it reminded me how Darth Vader does it in the 3rd Star Wars movie. In the Japanese version, Shinji just states "Eleboo!".

Character bios written:
- Jun: Satoshi and his friends encountered Jun again on their way to Nagisa City. Jun informed Satoshi that he had already gathered eight badges and, thus was eligible to take part in the Shinou League. At the town's Pokémon Center, Jun met Shinji for the first time and he challenged him to a battle. Shinji refused, saying that he was in the middle of adjusting his team for the Shinou League, and a battle would distort their condition. He told him he should challenge Satoshi to a battle instead. Even though Jun refused to do that at first, as he didn't consider Satoshi to be on the same level with him due to having only seven badges, he decided to challenge him to a battle after hearing Satoshi's explanation concerning what had happened between him and Shinji, and seeing how determined he was to win the next battle against him.

The first Pokémon Jun chose for his three-on-three battle against Satoshi was his Emperte, while Satoshi chose his Moukazaru. During the battle, Satoshi's Moukazaru was hit by a powerful Hydro Cannon attack and blasted off into the nearby forest. As Satoshi was calling out to it, Rocket Gang suddenly appeared and managed to trap Satoshi and the others, as well as capture Satoshi's Pikachu, Hikari's Pochama and Jun's Emperte shortly afterwards. In the end, with the help of Shinji's Eleboo, who aided in stopping Rocket Gang's destroyed mecha from collapsing and injuring the captured Pokémon, and Goukazaru, who had just evolved unexpectedly from Satoshi's Moukazaru, Jun was reunited with his Emperte.

- Jun's Emperte: Jun's Emperte was Jun's first choice for his battle against Satoshi in the town near Nagisa City. During the battle, Emperte launched a powerful Hydro Cannon attack which sent his opponent, Satoshi's Moukazaru, flying into the nearby forest.

- Satoshi's Moukazaru: Satoshi's Moukazaru was Satoshi's first choice for his battle against Jun in the town near Nagisa City. During the battle, Emperte launched a powerful Hydro Cannon attack which sent Moukazaru flying into the nearby forest. As Satoshi was calling out to it, Rocket Gang suddenly appeared and managed to trap Satoshi and the others, as well as capture Satoshi's Pikachu, Hikari's Pochama and Jun's Emperte shortly afterwards. Upon Moukazaru's return it was revealed that its ability, Blaze, had activated as it took a lot of damage from Emperte's Hydro Cannon, and that led to it not recognizing Satoshi. Rocket Gang tried to take advantage of the situation, but Moukazaru managed to escape and, after attacking and eventually destroying their mecha, sent them blasting off.

Then, in order to prevent the mecha from collapsing while Pikachu, Pochama and Emperte were still trapped into the container, Shinji sent out his Eleboo and ordered it to use Protect. In the meantime, Satoshi tried to calm his Moukazaru down and help it overcome its fury that was caused by the activation of Blaze. Just as Eleboo's Protect started cracking under the weight of Rocket Gang's mecha, Moukazaru snapped out of its rage and rushed to help the trapped Pokémon. During the process, it evolved into Goukazaru. After Pikachu and the others were saved, Shinji told Satoshi that Moukazaru turned the power of Blaze into energy for evolution, which meant that it had finally managed to control its ability.

- Satoshi's Goukazaru: After snapping out of the rage that was caused by the activation of its ability, Blaze, Satoshi's Moukazaru evolved into Goukazaru in order to save Satoshi's Pikachu, Hikari's Pochama and Jun's Emperte from Rocket Gang's collapsing mecha. Shinji, who had witnessed everything, told Satoshi that Moukazaru had managed to control Blaze at last, and that it had turned the power of its ability into energy for evolution. He also informed Satoshi that his brother wanted to see another full battle between the two of them, and promised to battle against him and Goukazaru in the Shinou League.
